The MCA Economic Congress

The MCA Economic Congress.
I was watching TV last night. The PM was at the MCA Economic Congress. I saw a number of familiar faces- my former colleagues who are still serving as MCA ADUNs and EXCOs. I sent out text- hello latuk, lu ada pecaya ka apa kita punya PM cakap? He later answered- hey Dato mana lu pegi sudah lama tak dengar? Mesti la kita pecaya- ini kita punya PM.
When I later read what transpired in the MCA's Congress, I understood why he said that. The MCA has scored a class act of a contre-coup to Ibrahim Ali's Congress.
It is ironic isn't it? UMNO hasn't done its own Congress. Not in recent years. But another organisation which claimed its politically neutral but seen as the other voice of UMNO has done so. Perkasa which is seen as the other Voice of UMNO, is led by a non UMNO man is a contradiction in terms. But it carried out an economic Congress insisting that the 30% Bumiputera presence across the entire economic spectrum must be written in stone or blood if we read in between the lines. It spoke for the Malay community.
Now, we shall see what Ibrahim Ali and gang will do. Will he go out in the streets and say Chua Soi Lek be put under ISA? Soi Lek is biadab! Soi lek is impudent, insolent and presumptuous!
The MCA leader has demanded the government jettison the 30% Malay equity requirement in the economy. That's a pincer manoeuvre. The MCA used two arms of the pincer to clip Ibrahim Ali's wings- the PM and his younger brother. Will Ibrahim also rant about Nazir Razak's cosmopolitan speech about harnessing our diversity as a leverage to be more competitive? Will he come out to say, Nazir can speak in those terms because of NEP assist and not despite it?
If he keeps quiet, then everyone in this world knows why Ibrahim Ali started as a highly vocal proponent of the 30% marker. Because to him, that is the only point to stir Malay aggression. Work on the Malay basic fears. Or we will eventually know what is Ibrahim Ali's real motivation- was he all this time posturing as a Malay's Malay so that he can be invited back into UMNO?
That would leave many of his followers in the lurch. We shall see whether his Pemuda, that chap with the 50's songkok( 5 inch high) will take to the streets or make police reports against the MCA or even Nazir Razak.
The MCA has answered Perkasa's Economic Congress by coming out with its own. It called the same person to officiate- the PM and presented in their views on the economy. They did it in a more calm and thoughtful manner. You can see the PM in a relaxed mood rather that appearing hemmed in emotionally. The MCA didn't need to use the portrait of Tun Razak. They did it the more cerebral way. Asking the PM to give an opening speech which was responded with the MCA president's speech. And they had more panache by delivering the coup de grace- inviting the PM's younger brother to give a speech on the economy.
This congress will surely re established Chua Soi Lek as an MCA leader with the strategic thinking.

it is another display of leverage of minority who always claim that they are marginalised and their playground is always being regulated that stiffle the freest competition to allow the minority bloom into its fullest and prosper the majority indirectly.this congress will subtly call for even playground for the sake of country 's economic growth.the crutch to scaffold the majority handicapped in structural economy is demonised and portrayed as the biggest blunder and calamity in the truest of economic development.

Salam Rodong,
Very good analysis of CSL's strategic thinking. But WZWH prefers Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin honest confession telling the true facts of Chinese businessmen getting benefits from NEP.

Dato'
It just an indication of a PM who is loosing grip and not knowing where he wants the nation to be.
Itu lah akibat nya nak cari makan kiri kanan!!!
And to CSL the blue movie actor, the way MCA did it will not go down well with UMNO and he can fool the PM...
Alahai PM ku...

Quiet Despair,

looks like you are jealous that Sak compiled Walla's comment into an article and subsequently other blogs reposted it inther website.....

too bad for you...

I suggest you change your nick name to Quiet Happy.... Quiet Despair is like a person in a coffin funeral....

Sorry,

for whatever achieved by Chua before and after...the only thing comes to my mind is Chua is an excellent Blue actor...

wish the camera had a close up function and there should have been 4 cameras used to film his action from different angles. That would have made worldwide best seller....Made in Malaysia....

Malaysia Boleh, Chua Soi Lek Boleh.....

ServiceB4Self,  15 August 2010 at 14:36

Dato’,
You have hit the nail on the head. The MCA Economic Congress did achieve a countre-coup, on one hand pushing for merit based reward policy but at the same time not entirely moving away from equity allocation to the Bumiputeras. They distinguished the two by literally arguing that the latter policy can’t work in certain circumstances namely knowledge based industry thus justifying a merit based reward allocation.
MCA also managed to maneuver both the PM and his brother to subscribe to this.
I won’t be surprised those in Perkasa would now scream conspiracy and thus accuses MCA proposal is a start of a more sinister plot to remove the Malay’s special privileges.
So what does MCA seek to achieve? Improve its stead amongst the Chinese?
I have no issues as to what was said by Nazir and truly for the nation to progress and excel, we have to use all available resources irrespective of race or religion. I just hope that it is not a case of “tepuk sebelah tangan”, all races have to subscribe to that especially those in control of the country’s economy.

schenker78 15 August 2010 at 14:42

If really Perkasa wants to have 30% shares during IPO, dont give to any UMNO man, just let PNB, ASB, Tabung Haji or other institution buys it...

That 30% will never go to the malays on the street when IPO offered...it goes to UMNO elite...

What is so difficult on buying shares....the market is open to all....Just go and buy at market price and manage it by watching the company performance quarterly....

There is no need for discount on rumah mewah....As Malays reproducing at higher rates than non malays, how long do you think the non malays can sustain discounts for the malays??? In 2020, 2030, 2050, the malays may go up to 75% ++

The discount for malays is offset and paid at higher purchase price by the non malays to the developer....The Developer not actually giving discount, they are just playing their money left to right....

If the government wants to help, abolish the Stamp Duty for SnP for malays and let governemt pay for lawyer fees etc....why burden the others????

Or better still ask the rich malays subsidies the poorer malays....Let all the Zakat money from mahathir (if any) , Daim, Syed Mokthar goes to poor people...

HAKIMAN,  15 August 2010 at 14:58

Dato Sak

If you remember right, one prominent Malay blogger wrote some months back that the Chinese are pragmatic people, who brought along in their culture and in their genes, the experience of thousands of years of persecution by the imperial system and their instinct for survival is not based on emotional outbursts.

Let us face the truth: Chinese Malaysians want this country to progress, to be competitive and to do well in the global economy. If the country does well, so will everybody else, Malays, Indians and themselves.

They do not seek just for the chinese to do well.

A friend of mine told me this:

The chinese business instinct is : You optimise profits, and never maximise profits.

In business,a winner-take-all is not sustainable.

UMNO's economic adventure via the NEP seems to be a winner-takes all. UMNO only leaves the crumbs to others.

People like Ibrahim Ali, a typical jaguh kampung from Kelantan has no clue what it takes to move the country's economy forward. All he cares is Malay, Malay and Malay, nothing else.

Ibrahim Ali, Mahathir and Khir Toyo and those UMNO warlords, they know that Malays are generally susceptible to emotional taunts . That is why we have the cow head demonstrations and the frequent police reports at the most stupid level of allegations of insulting Islam, or insulting the Malay rulers...as a cover for their own inferiority complex and insecurity.

Hear! Hear!
Ibrahim Ali issues ultimatum to Najib!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Read it in Malaysiakini.

Donplaypuks® 15 August 2010 at 17:26

"The MCA used two arms of the pincer to clip Ibrahim Ali's wings- the PM and his younger brother."

I don't think Chua Soi Lek or MCA have that kind of power or clout to manipulate Najib and Nazir.

MCA is merely exploiting a situation rather than crating one.

Dato'

Knowing Ibrahim Ali's brand of politic, he will not take it lying ndown but will be coming back with double guns blazing.

It could be a do or die battle for him and I hope he'll win. Then PR's hope will be brighter for the next GE.

schenker78 15 August 2010 at 18:17

D Sak,

It seems your UMNO supreme leader and his brother Nazir CIMB has been blacked out completely in utusan malaysia and only in small column in page 2 of berita Harian regarding their speeches in MCA...

Interesting times to come for Rosmah Najib vs. Mudin/Ibrahim Ali and mahathir ???

schenker78 15 August 2010 at 19:17

RPK is going to reveal documents regarding corruption that has been covered up by MACC, will be revealed tomorrow...stay tuned..

schenker78 15 August 2010 at 19:34

If UMNO really want to win GE13 for certain, let Najib, Mudin resign together and kick out other corrupt BN leaders, as well as charge Taib for corruption...

The Interim President shall be Tengku Razaleigh and in one single swoop, majority of malays and most of non malays comes back to UMNO. Ku Li do have a very positive image just like Badawi when he first became PM...

Sadly, it will never happen here. It happened few months ago in Australia, but in Malaysia, the leadership is so PONDAN dan takut .....Samy value, najib, taib, mahathir all afraid of their past and present Sins....

Even I do not mind if najib or Rosmah screwing around, samy vellu with his 2 chicks, Chua soi lek with his oral escapades... thats all personal.....what matters is what they do with our taxpayer money...These ppl get F. Thats why we hate BN...and I cant accept a woman blown up like altantuya, even if a girl is prostitute or another criminal, thats not the way to treat a fellow human being....

Dear Dato,
The 30% or 50% cut for the Malays is worthless if there is nothing left to cut.
There are about 6m Chinese left in Malaysia and by 2020 it would be probably be 2m to 3m left. The young ones have gone; only the old left behind. So who is going to pay the taxes? Malays hardly pay any tax.
We will see in 2020 and I will write you a personal email; "I said so"

The three things Malaysia has to do now are;
1.Cut religion out of politics
2.Cut out corruption
3.Review your education system.
MARA collges and universities are producing rubbish graduates that are not fit for high-tech. innovation. Why? [This for you to investigate]
Do it fast before IMF comes in to do it for you. Time is running out.

In 1998 Dr M refused IMF help because he knew that IMF would destroy his Ketuanan poilcy; 22 years of his hard work. That was the reason he was on warpath with Anwar Ibrahim.

How Najib can tolerate this Ibrahim Ali (waiting at the table kind) is really beyond me or any sane guy.

He is a nobody and publicly self assume importance.

He is embolden by the reluctance of those in power to arrest him and watch out, his mouth would spew out even worse venom in days to come.

Najib is habis lah .. his deputy is waiting to take over.

Another is the Chinaman Tee turned Muslim who wants to be more Malay than Malays themselves.

All spewing sensitive things that angers many people (no action taken).

Bye bye Malaysia. We are into a period of darkness for a long long time.

Everyday we hear nothing but nonsense. Things that destroy a country instead of uniting. Things that go against all justices and against good governance.

Again I say... do these guys know how to govern a country?

Quiet Despair,  15 August 2010 at 22:04

I agree totally with donplaypuk's reasoning.
Let's say MCA knows the right moment to call for the Economic Congress.
And the paty knows the two brothers will have to say some good things about the Chinese participation in the NEM.
And the two brotehrs are playing it along - saying something to create the feel good situation.
If it is UMNO who held the Economic Congress first, it will be a different ball game.
They will be talking about what the NEM holds for the Malays. Speak what is nice to the Malay ears.
Like Sak, I am disappointed that UMNO was not the spear-leader of the Bumiputra Ecnomic Congress.
Why allow Perkasa to stole the show - but done in an ungraceful and barbaric like way.
I was a cheer-leader for CSL from day one even with his blue-film because I like his calm demeanor.
I have always preferred him to OTK who too me is very brassh, crass and a tad racist.
But now I think CSL is really doing things more for his and MCA's political survival rather than stick to MCA past practice of not really being tough wit UMNO.
In that way he's shrewd to exploit the situation to the fullest with regard to equality starting with his success in getting more Chinese obtaining JPA scholarships.
He cannot help it since MCA is always accused of being the lap-dog of UMNO.
MCA must want to exert itself if they want to be remembered still in the coming GE.

We are all invisible people here sharing our points of view.
I did not say anything bad except to comment sure that racist Zorro will use his article because he slammed UMNO anf the Malays.
Come sit by me and I will teach you how to read.
Sekarang ada faham ka Thamby?

Quiet Despair,  15 August 2010 at 22:56

I have scrolled several blogs on the issue. And know what Sak, I was really laughing.
Now Najib is no longer Jibby but our beloved PM!
And the MCA mouth-piece Star went to town on this (sure many days to come) and the UMNO media (Utusan) gave it a small play.
How people changed with just a speech by Najib and bro to appease the Chinese.
What is more laughable is Nazir telling Siok Choo (Tun Tan Siew Sin's daughter) her ancestors came to Malaya ealier than his dad's fore-fathers.
Wow, that's really over just to be politically corect.
If UMNO were to hold a Bumiputra Congress tomorrow, Najib and bro will change the tune to suit the Malay ears.
They will be singing sweet music like the NEM is for you and Malays will go home happy.
And Najib wll be Jibby again to the non-Malays.
I think we all must think NEM or NEP, it's the same Malay, Chinese and Indian billionaires who will benefit the most.
We are just voters. So why must we quarrel over this.
And the sure thing is the poor Malays will continue to be poor.

Anonymous,  15 August 2010 at 23:43

OK, so they talk a good talk. Lets see them now walk their talk.

Otherwise, the chinese already see this as what it is. Managing expectations, and marketing B.S.

Take a breather...Ibrahim Ali is a front for Mahathir's devious plan to position his son. Mukhriz to rise up in the UMNO hieararchy and to take a shot at the Deputy Presidency of UMNO.

Mahathir is going for end game now with fast track Mukhriz into Deputy Presidency position:

Recap:

1) Make deal with Badawi to support Mukhrize candidacy as MP for 2008 election for his support of Badawi as President of UMNO prior to 2008

2) Destabilise Badawi, so as to marginalise Khairy for the UMNO Youth position. ( Failed because Khairy won the top post). Mahathir is furious.

3) Mahathir's all-out attack on Badawi to remove him as PM... with support of the Malay editor, Ahiruddin Attan ( Rocky Bru), , Bigdog blogger and Kadir Yassin . Took Muhyiddin on board in his camp. Successfully knock off Badawi.

4) Support PERKASA to oppose Khairy's reforms of UMNO YOuth to position Mukhriz for the UMNO Youth Chief post. Aim is to circle out Khairy from the ultra Malays in UMNO Youth by supporting Perkasa's ultra racist polemics . Mukhriz is to take ultra Malay stance.

5) Mahathir positions Muhyiddin to destabilise Najib with promise to support Muhyiddin as President. Muhyiddin is close to Bigdog blogger and Ahiruddin Attan (Rocky Bru) and Kadir Yasin.
(Note: Bigdog blogger, Rocky Bru and Nuraina Samad of NST are close buddies of Mukhriz

6) Mahathir disappointed Muhyiddin not taking open and stronger opposition to Najib's policies eg on 1Malaysia and on NEM.

7) Mahathir is using PERKASA to directly destabilise Najib. Mahathir using his cronies now back in the NST group to attack Najib. Utusan and Malay Mail are lukewarm to Najib's reform initiatives.

The game is afoot for Najib...

Question: What help will Rosmah seek from the bomohs to take on Mahathir's evil schemes???

Quiet Despair,  16 August 2010 at 09:28

I posted in other blogs that we will take a ring-side seat to see wrestling match between UMNO and MCA on the issue.
True enough, Hishamuddin and UMNO Youth have already started the ball rolling by condemning the MCA.
Utusan has gone to town with the issue when yesterday it was luke-warm in its reporting of Najib's speech.
We will not see the end of this anytime soon.
And in the same posting, I also stated this will delay the plan to have an early election.
UMNO have to do lots of damage control and this will inadvertently fall to Muhyiddin.
He will again be dubbed a racist.
The war of words have just begun. Let's tune in.

Indians and snakes , kill keling first...Hamidah perak Adun....

It is one thing with politics, we can disagree...but humiliate people in a racist way????

ServiceB4Self,  16 August 2010 at 17:35

Schenker 78,

Just because of one school head outburst, you have decided to conclude the absence of “Malay politeness”.

From my point of view, that in itself is a racist statement from you. Does this mean I should call your entire race racist? Should I call all the Chinese cheaters, just because one Chinese has cheated me? Should I call all the Indians liars, just because one Indian weren’t true to his words?

No, I will not fall into that. The fault is with such person and does not bind his race or nationality.

schenker78 16 August 2010 at 18:32

Well, its not only that person, every sunday Ridhuan tee writing in Utusan.... the whole chinese as Ultra kiasu, mata sepet, fanning racial issues without stop, along with Awang Selamat....

I am not saying chinese dont do that....MCA's Chua does it just last week....Not forgetting Hindraf in some statement which are not true....

Schenker78,

We have to decide whether we should jump onto the band wagon and become racist like the few Malaysian that you have quoted or whether you want to stand apart from such racism and make a stand.

The decision is solely yours, which should be the way forward for our country.

Malaysian,  17 August 2010 at 23:16

MCA leaders are trying to get close with DAP.

They know PAS and stupid PKR will back up DAP and meanwhile DAP can struggle to their agenda Malaysian Malaysia!

PAS will simply divide into two groups i.e a group of advocates for DAP and another no.

MCA will play safely in heaven as long as UMNO needs their support to gain Chinese voters in next GE..

Najib must promote 1 Malaysia and more diplomacy approach compared to Muhyiddin.

So, now the ball is belongs to Chinese.

But MCA and DAP will face the big threats from Malay NGOs like PERKASA led by Ibrahim Ali, DPMMS led by Tan Sri Rozali and others.
