No burden, carry rocks- tiada beban, batu di galas.

This is an old Malay proverb. It means, the stupidity of someone who proactively seeks to burden himself. At the end of the day, people mock his stupidity. You begin with having no problem, but you intentionally create one for yourself.
I read with incredulity a suggestion that TRH-Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah be made the BN candidate for Galas state seat. That would be like using a thoroughbred horse pulling a milk cart. Why don't we suggest that TRH be made the finance minister instead?
This is the major problem within UMNO. All this talk about human capital, people being the most important asset etc etc are just gimmicks to show you have read the current management literature. When it comes to practice, you throw out everything through the window. The number one rule is, it's all in the name of expediency.
In the case of the Galas by election, TRH should be asked to do what is expected of a Ketua Bahagian. If you want to ask him to be the director of operations in the elections, ask him to suggest the candidate. After all he is the ketua Bahagian, the most senior of all the MPs in Parliament.
Coming back to asking him to be an ADUN. He is a former finance minister, the first chairman of PETRONAS. His credentials will probably fill up the suitcases of many UMNO leaders. Clearly that suggestion is an attempt to further humiliate the only UMNO leader now who commands non partisan respect.
Tengku Razaleigh as long as he is healthy in body and mind is more suitable for national office. With the country facing a lot of economic problems and a serious creditability image, the better strategy is to appoint TRH to a senior government post and then persuade him to lead BN in Galas buy by-election. You remember what the former Speaker of Congress Tip O'Neill said of Reagan- when Reagan was compared to some respected leader- half of that man's brain is equivalent to the whole of Reagan's person. The same thing can be said of Tengku Razaleigh compared to many UMNO leaders now.

Update:

I hear on this 9th of October, the man with the personality of a wooden post, Dato Mustapha Mohamad will lead a delegation, welcoming back TRH from overseas trip. This kind of reception is usually accorded to statesman with a stature like Dr. Mahathir or currently serving PM. if it has come to this, it can only mean, the the acceptance of Ku Li as Director of Operations is not a done deal. Muhyidin is therefore doing a kite flying ruse. Who is Muhyidin trying to spook into action?
Here is a man whose insights and accumulated wisdom you can leverage in managing the country, but has so far been ignored. Its like Singapore dismissing the wisdom and insights of MM Lee Kuan Yew. TRH shouldn't be asked to do more that what is expected of a Ketua Bahagian. He is as loyal as any other UMNO leader to the causes of UMNO. With this kind of stature, people are asking him to be ADUN of Galas. Its like asking Dato Najib to be the ADUN of Peramu Jaya in Pekan.

muhyidin must have dogshit for brain...to insult TRH so is beyond belief.

muhyidin doesn't even deserve to carry THR's bags. as a kelantanese myself i feel deeply insulted the way this dickhead TPM treated THR...and i'm not even an umno supporter...

This is all in the UMNO genes - self interest. This supersedes all other interests, even the nations.

The leaders will humiliate anyone, exploit anyone, threaten anyone or use anyone to fulfill their personal agendas. They have no scruples.
When the mission is accomplished, they will say "Go to Hell till we need you again".

dato,

moment the bye-election is over; see how r they going to celebrate the hero TRH ?

dun mind TRH to contest but it is akin to having a political heavyweight to participate in a kindergarten's event

winning or losing this ADUN seat will not change the political landscape of Kelantan.

If TRH wins; it is because of the great statesman's personality and not just about UMNO.

just to salvage their assess, UMNO leaders seek those they said irrelevance to fore. this is the kind of leadership they have. i think they up to no good.

Tengku Razaligh is the PM we never had.It is an insult to suggest that he be the candidate in Galas. By right he should be the candidate for President of UMNO.
A man of his calibre who is the longest serving MP should have been in th efore front of national politics.
It was Mahathir who put him in cold storage for challenging him.The entire UMNO members and subsequent presidents too abandoned him.He shouldn't pay any heed to this enticing game now.

Another example of stupid politics . In Chinese they say " Catch worms and put into your ass"

which is equivalent to your "NO burden, carry rocks"

UMNO is as usual make use of whatever means to achieve their aims.

If TRH wins they will trumpet all over, the Malays have crossed over to UMNO (forgetting many non UMNO supporters do respect TRH very much and give him the vote.)

If TRH loses, then UMNO will then use this against him when he started advocating for the oil royalty in Kelantan.

Both ways ... UMNO wins. Very convenient.

Dato'

It appears that UMNO is desperate for a win in Galas. To field a general to fight a small battle either reflects our DPM's desperation or else stupidity.

Dear Sakmongkol

You haven’t figured out the real reason for them to get TRH involved as candidate or as director of operations? You see, they have figured that this Galas seat is hard to win in this political climate, that is, PAS has the better chance of retaining it. So this being the case let’s humiliate TRH – some people in UMNO are not very comfortable with him, suspecting him to have loyalties outside the party. So if UMNO loses they will just heap scorn on him. But should he win or help another UMNO candidate to win, then this would “damage” his relationship with the outsiders (read PAS or PR).

These guys are quite devious if not diabolical.

Dato Sak,

It will take a mental retard to realise that some politicians in UMNO are using this opportunity to force Razaleigh to make his stand and put the final nail to his political career with UMNO.

Razaleigh is in a no-win situation regardless of what he decides as an UMNO member. Could there be an invisible hand behind this ... his nemesis in the old days?

Bleak as it seems, perhaps there is a silver lining in the clouds. Perhaps, R could decide to severe his ties with UMNO and be his own man. He has the calibre of a great statesman but he is now in the company of mediocre people.

For the sake of Malaysia and the future of our children and grandchildre, perhaps KULI should now stand up and bear the yoke like other worthy Malaysians ... leave UMNO, form a 3rd force with Zaid ... put in a new Malaysian government.

Dato',

UMNO fielding TRH to contest the Galas seat is the grand plan of TDM and Muhyidin to finally get rid of TRH. If UMNO is so desperate to win ths Galas seat, why not field TDM...after all he was the ex-PM and he claims to have millions of supporters.

Let's have TDM as the ADUN for Galas. Hip hip hooray, long live TDM.

TRH the Finance Minister? No way Jose. It's just like a thief giving his loot to charity.

Dato Sak
You are one UMNO politician that dares to speak the truth without fear or favor and I salute you for your integrity and principles.
May the force be with you always.
Wassalam.
