Honesty in writing.

When you write on something that you don't believe in, readers will see through the falsity and artificiality. Your writing becomes a product that is so agonisingly contrived.

Brand.

You know UMNO the brand is in trouble. Yet as a loyal UMNO member you try to point out these weaknesses in the hope that the general level of consciousness of members is raised. It is patently wrong to expect that UMNO can change only when the LEADERS want to change. The fact is UMNO can change only when MEMBERS want to, not leaders. We impose a standard on ourselves and apply ourselves to achieve it.

Naturally you can't expect a leadership that thrives on preserving the status quo, the cake of custom as it were, to change.

Product.

Similarly it is with UMNO product. You have a defective product. Example: the candidate for Permatang Pasir. What else can Muhyidin and Zaid Hamidi say other that saying, this chap is the best candidate? You can't SD-ied yourself to prove that you are pristine and pure. What people make of you becomes the final measure. And people decide given the information offered them and filtered by their mental capacity.

Right now, what seems to be filtered out are UMNO the brand and its products. At the basic level, they know and can differentiate between a flawed and wholesome product.

As is customarily the case, UMNO will perform a post mortem on why it lost despite Muhyidin going around saying the winds of change are blowin'. A post mortem is just an elaborate exercise in CYA. (Covering Your Ass). This loss reflects badly on Zahid Hamidi who is the Ketua Perhubungan UMNO Negeri. It also shows Penang has no UMNO leader of standing. During the time Pak lah was PM/UMNO Presiden, what has he done to nurture UMNO leadership in Penang?

Dato,

Just take a look at the so called 'Barisan Pemimipin UMNO'.....most of them are so incompetent, highly corrupted and so uninspiring !!

The faster the rakyat get rid of UMNO/BN the better it is for the Rakyat !!

Hidup Rakyat.

Dear Dato' Ariff,

Given that you have realised all the above, and that all your exhortations to bring about change have failed, do you still believe that Umno-BN is the only alternative for Malaysia, or even for the Malays?

Sincerely,
mh

Dato

Your loyalty and faithfulness to UMNO is commendable. I fully understand why you would not quit UMNO - the same reason why a loving parent would not wantonly disown their wayward son.

But, isn't it time the "wayward son" who stubbornly refuses to repent be allowed to face the full consequences of his actions, so that he can learn a painful but necessary lesson?

Turn your back on UMNO and join any component of PR

Heh, what was that about Pak Lah?

Pak Lah's leadership was allright.

The proof is our IPTAs are lining up to give him more honorary doctorates.

What a learned man we had as a PM!

This loss is the tonic that Pakatan have needed.

After Manek Urai result, all the selangor beer issues, the Kedah frogs, the Badrul problem. THIs is EXACTLY what Pakatan needs.

The evidence that the rakyat is still behind them!

IN SPITE OF!

Sir,

Most UMNO members who clamor for change have long deserted the sinking ship after realizing that UMNO IS corrupt to the core.

Look at the words that come out of the mouths of UMNO leaders. SAKIT telinga yang mendengarnya. Mereka anggap rakyat masih bodoh. Khir Toyo and his RM3million ONLY palace. At the UMNO GA, the delegates don't utter much useful substance, only rhetorics.

Najib does not have a sincere face and when he talks, you can tell from his body language that he seems ada udang di sebalik batu, Muhyiddin looks like a samseng, Nazri acts like a gangster, police & executioner all in one, Rais is more senile than TDM, Zahid Hamidi (don't know where he got his doctorate from?) talk c0ck most of the time, Kerismuddin always senyum kambing, KJ no different from Mat Rempits and the list goes on. Sir the above are just the rakyats' perceptions of our very capable ministers.

The ones still with the sinking ship, most are those with contracts or hoping to get one soon.

Suharto was eventually kicked out because of KKN. Here in Malaysia, UMNO never learns and KKN will see to it that BN/UMNO will go the way of Golkar.

With the results of the numerous buy-elections, a fair projection points to the demise of BN comes GE13. There is one way out sir, create enough trouble so that an emergency can be declared and the GE will never be called.

Sir, I truly feels sorry for you. As I said before, your heart is with UMNO but your head probably says "sial punya parti".

Bersabarlah di bulan Ramadhan ini.

Sore loser Rohaizad just blamed his loss in Permatang Pasir on the Chinese voters not keeping their promise of support. Perhaps he has to consult his sifu Tun Dr M on understanding the Chinese voters.

IMHO the issue at hand is not even known to the UMNO/BN team so how can they win. They have forgotten but these Chinese voters have not. It was just 4 months ago when hundreds of students who scored more than 10As in their STPM failed to obtain the JPA scholarships. It was a betrayal and these people do not forget betrayal.

Then the DPM changed the rules again and limit the number of subjects for STPM to 10. He never recognised these people's achievements but by changing the rules, he intimated they are 'cheating' the system. They felt cheated.

And Dato Sak, they never forgot. UMNO forgot, but these people never forgot. I was there and I heard them with my own ears.

The beer story of Selangor is capitalised as a major2 problem for PR yet our own PM is almost begging a woman caught drinking in Pahang to appeal against "caning" sentence.Wats the rationale?

Leadership must show consistency..

And if one wants the sanctity of SPRM not to be challenged..the priority must be right.500k offences can't take precedence over billion dollars cases i.e a doctor can't focus on a patient with mild fever when another is having a serious heart attack.

And 1Malaysia is not about song and dance and changes in forms BUT actual policies and action. And the opposition is also part of Malaysia and should be given its due recognition.

My advise for BN is to take one step back, rethink n regroup>>its not short term propaganda that will win the ppl's support but sincerity in serving and meeting their aspirations.

And fielding a flawed candidate and accusing everyone of being unethical cos they believe the Bar Council is not wat the ppl desires of a leadership. That was the opportunity for BN to admit an error and withdraw from PP byelections..but the leaders chose to continue protecting a lost cause by pointing fingers at all n sundry,

Nothing hv changed..the arrogance still remains strong. And there is no bonding,no empathy with the spirit of the rakyat.

Dato' Lets console BN that PAS also lost, in a way.

In the March 2008 election - PAS secured 65.5% of the 16803 votes cast.
In the by-election thsi time, it secured 64.8% of the 14832 votes cast.
PAS' majority over UMNO has reduced by 0.7% this time.
A very commendable effort by UMNO, using the might of the mainstream media and Patriot Bloggers like Parpukari, Shamsul Yunos and RockyBru.

Anyway, it was only in this by-election, the rakyat knew the following UMNO wisdoms:

a. That fines by Bar Council were like fines for parking offences
b. That it was not wrong to marry a second wife secretly and not telling about it to the first wife.
c. When misappropriated funds are subsequently settled, then there is no element of fraud. (Courts -not the one selling furnitures but the institutions that administer justice, please take note of this drift)

Other observations:

a. BN's Accusation of 3696 phanthom voters

Even if 3696 phanthom voters had cast their votes and the votes were rejected from the total of 9618 votes cast for PAS, its new tally would have been 5922, which would have 855 votes higher than what UMNO secured. So PAS will still be the winner.

4D punters may also be winners. Go for 3696 all the way. RM1000 BIG and RM 2000 small.
You too can be rich. After all there are many special draws approved by BN to make you all wealthy.

b. Bernama reported that PM also took note of the fact that the BN managed to reduce PAS' majority in the area. He conveniently forgot that BN's own vote bank had reduced from 5571 in 2008 to 5067 this time, a reduction of 504 votes from its 200 tally representing almost 11%, despite using all main stream media to its advantage, assisted by Patriotic Bloggers like Parpukari (whose language stinks - even during Ramadan).

This seems to be a perennial problem in UMNO.
Cannot see deterioration of its own influence, but quick to compare its impact on the other party.
Can UMNO take note and tell the big bosses?

A post-mortem is scheduled to be done by UMNO.
There you go again. UMNO only. Its not a BN post-mortem.
So the remaining component parties are not relevant in this 'post-mortem'?
What is this 1Malaysia all about then? Cannot even discuss defeat together?
Where is collective responsibility of the BN? Talk only?

No wonder, the public are getting fed-up with the BN rhetorics.
And BN never learns!

When you have selected a wrong driver, candidate for this instance, he will drive you to nowhere.

What would you get from a rotten leader if it wasn't a rotten egg?

A rotten egg you would have in the end.

So, please select an honorable one, just like me. He he he.

Khun Pana aka johanssm 26 August 2009 at 03:28

I hope yours is not a lonely cruise.
It is admirable that you defend the political party of your choice and intends to spread the word of change internally.
The problem is not just centered on umno but all bn parties too.
They cant change as well.
Funny thing is a virus can change and mutates each time it faces a challenge but so far bn is not evolving.
This means Pakatan Rakyat must charge ahead and bn must take a rest . After half a century , bn deserves a long vacation and rethink.
We wanted to see a better Malaysia and umno is a hindrance.

Suci Dalam Debu 26 August 2009 at 06:45

Sir,

See how stupid our leaders are? They said the people did not vote for change!

Little did they realised that voting for change is to chose PAS.

Our leaders' stupidity is amazing.

Dato'
BN/UMNO is hoping for a by election in Galas in The Gua Musang Parliamentary constituency to register their first win in the Peninsular. Galas with the 'orang asli' population as the majority of voters will always vote for BN/UMNO who will give them food and money to vote for them. Things may change though if Ku Li tells them "don't vote BN/UMNO."

KS Cheah 26 August 2009 at 07:48

Salam Dato',

You are so right about readers being able to see through when you write something you don't believe in. I commented in your past post "BN for Permatang Pasir" as such.

On your analogy sir, a basic principle in professional selling is, "never sell anything you wouldn't buy yourself". It is all about belief in and conviction about the product.

Prospects can see through a salesperson who is not as convinced about his own product as he is trying to show. However, the best part is, the reverse is also true; prospects can also recognize sincerity in the salesperson.

I agree that the UMNO brand is in trouble. The most important aspect of a sales process is trust. UMNO is indeed facing a serious crisis in the area of trust; UMNO's sincerity is in question.

The product? Well, people do not buy products per se. People buy the benefits the products can give them. This is where I see Barisan Nasional as the "brand owner" in serious trouble. The 7:1 thrashing in the 8 by-elections since March, 2008 not only shows that the rakyat is not only willing to buy for future benefit, they are also seeing that prolonged use of BN branded products is hazardous to their well-being.

The A&P by UMNO in the Utusan and Berita Harian using the race and religion tagline only further relegates the brand to the fringe market.

Just my two sen.

Regards and Selamat Berpuasa.

You and Ku Li are the sensible ones left in UMNO. I think you and Ku Li should put the country first instead of UMNO. Leave UMNO and set up alternative party to work for the interests of the country. UMNO's interest is no longer with the country.

telur dua 26 August 2009 at 22:58

The UMNO of today is but a mere shadow of its former self.

With the current bunch of 'leaders' they are going nowhere.
