Der House doctor: blatant or political liar? –Part 1

When Dr. Mahathir said those lines, I nearly fell off the chair. Not because, the Malay categorization of such a fellow is a Mamak or and Indian Muslim, but because of the admission of political chameleon-ness of the person.

Because of that, we can now reconcile such an admission with one particular categorization of Dr Mahathir – that of a political liar. To re affirm his brand of politics, Dr Mahathir is willing to not tell the truth. His memoir contains not hard truths but fabricated deceits. All in furtherance of his politics. Musa Hitam wasn't the political animal after all. It's Mahathir. All the time.

Only Dr Mahathir has the absolute discretion to tell his version of things. He and his version is the ultimate measure. Many of us are just blinded by the fact that over 22 years when he lorded over us, Malaysia is rushed into the 21st century ignoring the immeasurable costs to this country and to Malays in particular.

If I were to accept another categorization of Dr Mahathir as a blatant liar, that would induce a different feeling. At least describing Dr Mahathir as a political liar suggests that essentially Dr Mahathir may still be a good person, but he assumes a certain character when his Machiavellian instincts overwhelm him. Tengku Razaleigh is ever so polite.

On the other hand, to describe Mahathir as a blatant liar suggests a deeper natural characteristic of the man. In other words Mahathir is a born liar. So you pick your choice- Mahathir the political liar or Mahathir a natural liar.

How can we ever argue with this kind of man? Here is an example of a man who can contain two extremes and two opposites simultaneously. So how? Mahathir is bye-ethnic? Others are hmm…..bye-sexual? When Mahathir cannot be Malay he says bye-as in when one cannot get sex, he says bye?

Arguing or opposing such a man would only end in the annihilation of one party- namely us. Consider this. When UMNO does not agree with him, he forms an UMNO Baru! UMNO- Under Mahathir Never Oppose.

Then, just look at the list of the vanquished in the hands of Dr. Mahathir. Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah because of the man's absolute sense of propriety and protocol when Dr Mahathir has none; Musa bin Hitam because of Musa's insistence on stable principles when Dr Mahathir has only preferences for expedience; Ghafar Baba because of Ghafar's trusting nature and old school innocence facing off with Dr Mahathir's you-are-valued-as-long- as-you are useful to me and un-conventionalism; and Anwar Ibrahim because of the man's dirty morals(?) when Mahathir is artificially clinical.

Mahathir runs a political clinic then. He is a house doctor anyway-dispensing panadol and aspirin to relieve heart problems. Finally there was the bungling Tun Dol who immediately said yes I am ready to be your deputy when asked, when actually what Mahathir was looking was, a pliant tool.

So the victor writes his own history.

I have described him as the only man in Malaysia who can walk on water. That, as testament for his ability to do impossible things. But I think this description of himself beats everything else. Here is a person who can hold two opposites simultaneously. You can only term such a person as slippery. Anwar calls him a blatant liar. Tengku Razaleigh calls him a political liar. Can you beat such a slippery person? Now a slippery person can pick and choose which part of his own story that he wishes to amplify.

Dr Mahathir reminded me of Winston Churchill. We are all worms, but I am a glow worm. Everything else pales in comparison to him.

This could be the mystery sentence of the decade. It's spoken by the doctor in the house. He has just come out with his memoir after an 8 year wait. Unfortunately it appears to be extraordinary more in terms of the author's vindictiveness on his political rivals. As they say- history is written by the victor. Thus far, Dr Mahathir is the victor and he intends to tell the story as he sees it.

A memoir is what it is- a very personalized and heavily nuanced version of history. In the case of a memoir or autobiography- a personalized and heavily nuanced version of HIS legacy and a selective recollection of aspects of history.

It's easy to rebut what Dr Mahathir says- in diplomat-speake- we can always politely say, what Dr Mahathir says do not seem to tally with the records we have. For example, during that crucial Friday Prayer break, it was Mahathir's storm troopers who went on a spending spree paying delegates. He just couldn't believe that his larger number of nominations couldn't translate into votes.

But Mahathir said it was done by Razaleigh's people. So we say to Mahathir, what you say do not seem to match the notes we have. That is the only form of counter argument one can adduce against a personalized and nuanced version of history. He begun money politics he says it's done by others. He begun the politics of internal discord, he says others started it.

The question is- can you trust a person who is congenitally intractable? He wants Malaysians to accept history as it is written by him. He is pig-headed in his version of history. Can you hold on to anything he says if he doesn't see anything wrong in I have Indian blood but I am Malay. My Indian Muslim friends were rolling on the floor laughing out loud.

Rather than use this memoir as an opportunity to set the record straight, the memoir is used to bolster his one track views on many things. Mahathir is more eager to leave behind, a cleaned-up operation. Mostly the trails he left behind.

He says he was disappointed that Daim did not defend himself against accusations of graft- how could Daim if his defense will have to reveal that Mahathir, the one-time doctor who was not a wealthy person when he travelled frequently from Alor Star to KL, became the subject of insidious whispers of now being a fabulously wealthy man? Daim cannot defend possibly because Mahathir was also linked to the accusations? So Daim has to keep mum. Daim will have to bring down the house made of cards.

Mahathir is eager to leave a sanitized legacy perhaps because he is actually scared some people may piss on his grave. So he must give the world a sterilized version of his-story.

Many will be too happy to pee on his grave. All the wrongs he had done to the country will be borne by our future generations for several generations to come. The wrongs were further enhanced by his successors and we will be lucky if Malaysia doesn't go bankrupt within our time.

Anonymous,  13 March 2011 at 12:05

No one can describe it better than you.

You forgot about the lopsided and really stupid Highway tolls agreements, the IPPs agreements with TNBs, the huge losses in foreign exchange trading... and at one time wanted to build a bridge to Sumatra (to being in Indonesians)!

Worse is his current advocacy to build a crooked bridge using tax payers' billions so that his friend Syed Moktar's port would make more money. This also at the expense of relationships with Singapore.

Brain drain started during his tenure as PM.

Everything this guy touched turned from Gold to mud

plus many more NONE OF WHICH benefits the country.

Not much of a comment, but I was once sitting down in Masjid Negara waiting for Maghrib to set in. Normal day. Just a row of worshippers. TDM and his entourage walked in. I do not know whether it was before or after his PERKIM meeting. To my amazement the people there stood up and waited for him to sit down.

I was chuckling inside. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hf) forbade anybody to stand up when he walks into a majlis. In the many of conferences, seminars or workshops where UMNO ministers (or any Minister) walks in., I did not bother to stand up. I do not serve them.

Anyway, TDM is quite smart to get himself involved in PERKIM. During his tenure he was smart to placate the Muslims by spending on this-and-that Islamic "institutions". But then to me at least, these are all facades. I don't much care if you spend money on the Islamic Muzeum or School of Islamic Thought or what-have-you. It is the Islamic spirit that counts. Mahathir did not care about the inner aspects of things. This is one of the reasons inter alia that has weaken the Malays more. That sadden me greatly.

I was hoping that someone would be bold enough to write Mahathir's Autobiography. You have successfully written it in not so many words but have truly encapsulate the nature of the Old Man.

He is the Man who has turned the word "Sodomy" into a National Preoccupation. He has in effect turned Malaysia into Sodomyland. In effect every man woman and child in Malaysia have been spiritually "sodomised" by him.

He has left a trail of politically dead deputies for he could never work as a Team. His idea of TeamWork is either my Way or no Way. In a different place it would have been called Dictatorship.

Where did he lie?

Is it not true that he has indian blood? Is it not true that mamak is culturally and legally accepted as malay.

He struggled and contributed for the Malay cause more than many of those claiming to be 100% malay including you Malay Liberal claim to be.

Anugerah Tuhan,  13 March 2011 at 13:56

For RM 100 per copy selling like pisang goreng panas! Better get the facts right. Majority Malaysian deeply believing Dr M. Accept for those eccentric no brainer,none-gratefull minority buggers! Please do yourself a favor….THINK AGAIN!

Ir. Hanafi Ali 13 March 2011 at 14:06

Tun Hussein actually said that, i.e. he will not capitulate his principles lest people be peeing on his grave, hence Tun Hussein backing away from the scene.

I guess, and I believe, your piece here made us realize, or made me realize, that Dr. Mahathir is a real scum. A true Machiavelli.

Anonymous,  13 March 2011 at 14:41

Mahathir: I have indian blood but I'm a malay and proud to be one.

The only reason he said that is rooted to the fact that to be a PM, you have to be an Umno President. And to be Umno President, generally one must be a malay.

If it is stated in our Fed Consti that a PM should be of ethic Indian origin, I can bet my bottom RM that Mahathir will declare to the whole world that he is an Indian and proud to be one because he has more Indian blood than malay.

Mahathir is not only a blatant and political liar, but more importantly a compulsive liar. So, if you see a snake and Mahathir, to ensure your safety, you must kill Mahathir first.

He lied about Salleh Abas. He lied about Dato Shafee Yahya, ex-ACA DG concerning the EPU DG's office raid, he lied about TR, he lied about Anwar..and he told and is still telling lies to the whole nation..about his corruption, abuse and power and all things that went wrong during his 22yrs rule.

Typical indian. Indians do not like somebody from their own race suceed and rather someone of another race. This typcial indian trait. Eat your own kind. With Dr's admission that he has a Indian blood means Malaysia already had a Indian PM. This line of reasoning by Dr's will go down as the joke of the lifetime and all will be rolling on the floor with laughter or die of laughter " I have Indian blook , I look like Indian , I like Indian food , I by entry to UM in Singapore a Indian but the dumb Malays made me a Malay. What can we say about the character of a man who in his autobiography suffers from selective amnesia (as he did at Lingamgate RCI) as concerns his father's origins and makes no clarifications about his mother or their Kerala, India origins?

I was once told, and there's no proof of it, that Lim Kit Siang has a copy of the "good doctor's" application after WW2 to King Edward VII College of Medicine, S'pore where he had purportedly stated his Race as Indian in order to secure a place under affirmative action policies!!

I dare say if TR had won the Umno presidency in 1987, Malaysia will not be in the mess it is in now.

The country would have been managed by a honest, competent and principled gentleman who would have lay a good foundation for Malaysia until now.

Wenger J Khairy,  13 March 2011 at 16:41

Dear Dato',

If Dr. Mahathir's harm was just limited to his posturing on race, well its one story.

But I think the legacy of Dr. Mahathir is this very narrow way of thinking that is affecting Malaysia from an ethical and competitive point of view.

This Maha-mode seems to oversimplify things to suit the doctrine and then to viciously attack those who disagree.

I believe this entire Anwar saga was manufactured because Mahathir wanted a person whom he had the "goods" on to be his nemesis. Mahathir created Anwar because Mahathir felt he had the trump card that could be used whenever.

This allows Mahathir to outlive his rival because he builds them up to then tear them down.

And Barry Wain I believe did write an biography on Mahathir and boy did he uncover a lot of dirt. Over RM 100,000,000,000 worth of abuses.

And futhermore whys is Mahathir still sitting on the board of advisors for Petronas when his son is involved in major contract negotiations?

This is very disturbing. Mahas what do you have to say about that?

I have challenged many Mahathirst to answer certain questions with regards to the bail outs for his children but alas, they never are able to come out with an answer.

Which means we can't get a good crop of leaders which results in all the issues that comes with it.

10,000 copies in 3 days. Yeah, so what. It could sell 20,000 or 100,000. Does it matter. We can cap Mahathirist to about numbering less than 300,000. What about the 29.7 million who are left to suffer from the uncompetitive, high inflation, crony ridden economy?

I just find it fascinating how a person could actually lie that much without feeling bad about it. I find it fascinating too that he single-handedly revise history. He will unashamedly claim that being an Indian he was oppressed and perseucted by the Malay !
If then you ask him whether he considers himself to be a Malay or an Indian, he will say "Of course I am an Indian, you see my father Mohamad Iskandar was an Indian who migrated from Kerala to the then how could I be a Malay when my father was an Indian ? My root is in India and I am proud to be an Indian ."
Such is the opportunistic character of Mahathir.

You know Mahathir and his cronies are running UMNO/BN ...that's why you are not in the cabinet.....Mahathir engineered it that way....he is steering the cabinet from the backseat though he is not at the steering wheel.

The 1987 Elections,

I am surprised that many Maha's seem to forget the almost farcical situation that happened in the 1987 elections. The best is the comment from Tyler Durden.

When the ballot boxes were being opened, it was close, but Tengku was edging ahead. Then the lights went off and in the last ballot box, it was mostly Maha votes.

I challenge all the Mahas who like to hang around here to explain that? Coincidence?

Wenger, Dato Sak and etc,

You guys have to learn the art of manipulating:

1. When both you and your opponent do it (money politics), accused your opponent but NEVER deny about your own.

2. Mahathir is telling the truth about Ku Li, but he didn't deny any of his own money politics.

My verdict? He is NOT a liar by doing that.

Two questions come to mind but before that i would like to acknowledge that age might make porous the logic of arguments.

Whether this applies to him or me or anyone else we shall have to see as the argument unfurls. Ok, so far?'

A: 'Yes, Sir.'

B: 'I think the first thing is his counterpoint in his chedet blog titled semenanjung tanah melayu 2.

We have discussed this before. We said that since our Malays are not orang asli, we are therefore not original, and so we must also be immigrants in which case any so-called social contract with other immigrants at that time would have been a contract of convenience by dint of misrepresentation.

Now his counterpoint if you would note carefully would make for a fantastic study of deflection.

First he said that if we think our Orang Asli have more rights to claim this country as their own, then we should respect the rights of the aborigines in other countries, like the red indians in america and so on, to be given back their countries.

Manner of phrasing aside, i would like to ask what has that got to do with us? Does it mean the US government not giving back america to the Navajos and so on should exonerate us from making unreasonable claims ourselves? Do two wrongs make one right, Sofea?'

A: 'But he went on to say that our Orang Asli's were as fairly treated as citizens of our country even when they did not set up any mode of representation which our Malays did.'

B: 'Let me respond to you on that with an analogy, Sofea, even when you can already see for yourself what is happening even today in Sarawak and Sabah that would have stopped you from saying further.

The analogy is like this. I row my boat from somewhere for many nautical miles and spy land. So i disembark and see a house. I enter the house and note that the landlord or owner or original occupant is in the kitchen. I promptly set up roots in the living room.

Another day others like me row their boats onto the shore and go through the same process. But when they enter the living room i am already there. The original occupant is still in the kitchen desperately trying to start a fire with flints in order to cook a meal for his family.

Now some people will say this analogy is not entirely complete for the absence of the role of the pekmoh's in notarizing, some say designing, the first tenancy agreement. I am too mindful of that to know if i were to add it, our debate will go off at a tangent from what this analogy is trying to establish - namely our Malays are as much immigrants as the others.

Now, on your point about having a semblance of government as legalizing ownership, let's have another analogy.

See that weedy field over there with only cows grazing it? I don't own it but now i am jumping over the fence to occupy it. Now that i have occupied it, i set up house, spawn families and create some hierarchy.

My question to you, Sofea, is this - does my setting up shop legalize my entitlement to that field? If you say yes, then we can tell off all bandaraya's today who are trying to evict illegal settlers, anywhere in the world.'

walla 14 March 2011 at 12:28

A: 'I sense he was also trying to solve the dilemma by now saying all special privileges should be abolished so that we can all be together speaking and teaching in one national language, practising one national culture and owing our loyalty to one country.'

B: 'Really, Sofea? Are you awake? Earlier before that, he wrote that the other immigrants were accorded privileges. Now he says all special privileges should be removed but, and i repeat but, he added that we should all be one under one national language and culture. Ok, so far?

So let me ask you to tote all that up and tell me what it really means.

It really means one and one word, Sofea. Assimilation.

But assimilate to what? Isn't it all about assimilating to the Malay language and culture in order to create some form of sly justification just by tapping the word "national" to by default mean "malay" in order to deculturize the others using the implication that anything that is not Malay in form is anti-Malaysian in meaning in this country?

This is like changing the terms of a contract, itself illegal in the first place, Sofea!

Furthermore, there is nothing and i repeat, nothing, that has shown the others have good reason to emulate anything portrayed so far that has emanated from the notion of malayness as depicted and delivered by those of his ilk.

So what value to them, to our Malays, and to our nation, will the others have from assimilating themselves to the Malay culture as defined by him and his ilk? Why, should we all be happy and satisfied to discard five centuries of wisdom so that we can be an ib'ali today, a ridhuan tee tomorrow, perhaps a ben'ali next week, or a mubarak, marcos, mugabe or mahathir next month?

A: 'Sir, looking at all the lies, scams, schemes, plunders, sunders, chauvinism, racism, katakism, i have no honest answer to your questions.'

walla 14 March 2011 at 12:28

B: 'You have disappointed me, Sofea.

Do you know what's happening? It's like this. He must have been aghasted at the stupidity of his ilk at the last Umno GA for spilling the beans that their roots were from elsewhere, thereby negating to the entire population the notion of malay equals national equals original equals superiority equals special privileges equals unchallengeable rights.

Thus, quickly, assimilation. Elimination of all other cultures for an adherence to only one national culture, which in his mind will by default be the Malay culture.

Take education. He and his ilks messed it up completely until today you can have our Malay Studies students demanding an apology from their own VC for asking that english language is important. That's for an institution of higher education, mind you. Now he has midway reversed his stand when it finally dawned upon him there is no way a country steeped only in our malay language can command the rapid escalation of knowledge of the world delivered mainly in the english language.

Isn't he therefore a morass of contradiction for now asking that we adopt one national language when it is irrelevant to making our economy high-income, the so-called panacea for all future ills predicating both voter and investor confidence? Macam mana lagi, oi?

A: 'But that aside, he has admitted that he has Indian roots.'

B: 'So let me ask you how can someone who has Indian roots become a notion called a Malay and pre-qualify himself to talk about assimilation? Assimilate to a notion in which he is equidistant from inasmuch the others?

If our Malays are also immigrants, shouldn't we instead be talking about integration so that the best elements of all cultures can be tapped to create an utopian Malaysia in which no one can feel marginalized and everyone can become more confident he or she has a permanent stake to help contribute to nation-building and character-development without the specter of being called anti-nationalistic for doing things that can be labelled non-Malay by the likes of Ib'Ali, Awang Selamat's, even Mohammad Mahathir's?

After all, are their minds and characters worthy role models in this time and age, Sofea? Give me an honest answer, so help us The Almighty, Sofea.

As an anecdote from history, someone had narrated that when he first assumed office, there was a circular going around internally within the government to call him by his full name but he hastily put a stop to it. Do you want to know that name in full, Sofea?'

walla 14 March 2011 at 12:29

A: 'You said there were two points of essence, Sir. What is the second one?'

B: 'In a nutshell, the price of the house call. Was it too high for the patient, the house, and the future of other inhabitants when the present ones are gone?

Let's not belabour anymore those deals gone bust and the resulting mega-billions in lost rakyat money siphoned away. I'm tired and i am sure you are as tired as me. We know what happened. We know how much was blown. We know who had benefited from all those ill-gotten gains.

Let's also not belabour the destruction of checks-and-balances during his time, a legacy which continues to this day even behind the veil of pretentious reform of governance until you get that hypocritical stance to label others as traitors when racial policies were conducted for immigration to create voting support at the expense of social ills. So who's the traitor?

Let's also not belabour the destruction of generations of young Malaysians, the exodus of our brains, the in-your-face machiavellian policies to hide data that would have shown how heavy-handed has been the treatment of the others by malignant neglect for years until today we have crushed the two pillars of our national competitiveness - human and financial capital - so that our economy is in denial of its real debts to sustainably manage real growth in real value-adding enterprises. Don't believe me? Take away the oil and plantations. What is left that says we will still be relevant to the buying and investing world?

Even if we can ignore all these points, Sofea, let's do ourselves a service and not ignore the most nettlesome point of all - real change depends not on the others for they have already sacrificed, suffered in silence and done all they could despite formidable arrays of choke-points erected against them by a government to which they are asked to pay taxes so that money can be scammed more in order to support a regime that is racial and chauvinist behind the spin of one-Malaysia. This nation should instead celebrate their autotelic capabilities to survive and thrive despite all the crap thrown at them in the name of our so-called hypocritical national assimilation.

So, what is that nettlesome point? It is the pygmification of our Malay mindset.

Even in this blog we can see it. The blogger writes that the man is a political liar and advances arguments. Some of the responses beggars belief. One-liners trying to (a) label the blogger negatively, (b) torpedo the messenger, and (c) obscure the fact that no supporting facts are advanced to take the opposite position.

Is this the best our mahathirites can do, one asks timidly? Is this what is meant by Malay culture? Is there any intellect worth defending out there or shall we have to call Mr Spock to beam us up because those who can't win an argument want to make sure the other party's reputation is sullied?

As if calling them liberals carries the unacceptable implication they are less Muslims because Islam is conservative?'

walla 14 March 2011 at 12:32

A: 'Is that why you didn't respond to him in chedet, Sir?'

B: 'What fer', Sofea?

Let me share my concerns for this country. We have to (a) live harmoniously with one another (b) in an economy that is progressive, and (c) help one another up (d) free from the lens of race.

In fact, we should cut a clean slate from the past. We should remove the NEP and replace it with the NEP. Not "new" meaning malay only, but "noble" meaning all in need regardless of their race. Because this time, it will be done only by the rakyat, not by a politicized government filled with sycophants and power-crazed cretins only looking out for themselves while hypocritically talking about nationalism and race and Malay culture.

Sofea, culture can't fill stomachs. Only cooperation can. Don't believe me? Ask Nube what their members think of what Wahid is drawing while the staff labour on weekends without even a sniff of an allowance? What have all these fine NEP honchos contributed?

Remember TR and how everything finally came out in a court? So why the teflon against charges of CBT by political fiat against the one who started it all?'

A: 'Yet, Sir, his first launch sold ten thousand copies at a hundred ringgit each. The curiosity is abiding.'

B: 'So what, Sofea? He should walk his talk. At our age, we shouldn't be looking for more money. How much can we spend on ourselves as dessicated coconuts? Been there, seen all, done everything. If he is making ten percent, shouldn't all be looking forward to his making a donation of the hundred grand? Perhaps to a Chinese or Tamil vernacular school to show he really understands human nature and the milk of real civilization? Shouldn't be difficult for a doctor under hippocratic oath, isn't it? Note it's not spelt as "hypocritic".

Maybe after he has shown he isn't racialist, he can then be a role model for his sons to donate their handsome wealth accumulated in record time to the social net for all races of this nation.

It's not just about lying, Sofea. It's also about deviousness applied wholesale.'

msleepyhead 14 March 2011 at 16:22

Fact check, all you TunM haters.

Indian Muslim leaders and their influence in Malay politics are nothing knew.

According to
Interaksi antara Tamadun Melayu, Cina dan India, p.16

Menurut Sulalat al-Salatin (Sejarah Melayu)

- Tun Ali, keturunan Melayu Tamil, dilantik menjadi Sri Nara Diraja, dan cucu Tun Ali, Raja Kasim menjadi Sultan Melaka (Sultan Muzaffar Shah, 1446-56).

So, the TunM story is not new and it just shows the generosity of the Malays in accepting others who are willing to embrace Malay culture as one of their own. Don't forget their kindness in giving citizenship to the then stateless pendatangs in Tanah Melayu.

Lastly, this shows that anyone can become PM if you adopt Malay culture, no matter what your blood or roots are.

Blatant Lie -- a lie that destroys you.

Anonymous,  14 March 2011 at 16:57

TDM wrote "I have indian blood but I am malay'. What TDM is saying is anyone can be a malay as long as he/she is an UMNO member and a muslim. Well to the likes of Ibrahim Ali and his Perkosa gang, what do you say now that your mentor has admitted he is not of pure ketuanan melayu blood. How does Ibrahim Ali now feel that he has been led by his nose by an indian blooded self proclaimed malay. Simple deduction leads to the conclusion that there is no such thing as ketuanan melayu but instead there is a ketuanan india. If TDM is considered to be clever (which is very questionable), it must be his indian blood genes and nothing to do with his adopted "malayness". So to Ibrahim Ali and his Perkosa merrymen, accept the fact that the indian blood/DNA has more intelligence than your ketuanan melayu blood and stop screaming ketuanan melayu on top of your lungs.

Anonymous,  14 March 2011 at 17:31

Aye to ms sleepyhead's comment.

I wd also like to add: what is so wrong if you are not full-blooded malay, or chinese, or indian?

I'm always puzzled when people want to hit at dr mahathir, they bring this up. Calling him mahakutty lah...
And more puzzling is when the indians (msians) themselves say "dey, u got indian blood lah." Is there something to be ashamed in being Indian or have Indian ancestry?
I am Malay, no problems in our family marrying mamak or indian, or chinese or mat salleh.

Saya tak faham lah

FIL was Tun M's classmate in Kedah. FIL sekapai dgn Tun M. If Tun M was from Kerala, FIL was from Nagapatnam.

According to FIL, Tun M would cry when friends teased him about his mamakness. That's the psyche of the GREAT MAN. He has a complex about his heritage.

If only he had joined PAS, then he wouldn't have any such problem. Just look at Hanipa Maidin. He3

I love his simple inimitable style. He does not go for pretensions with bombastic language.
His memoir is his perspective, his own views. So it is his right to say whatever he wants.
Those who disagree like Ku Li or Mr Aljay, write your own memoirs.
Or else sue him like he challenged on the day of the book launch.
Maybe in Ku Li's case, there are some wrong facts. But in Anwar's case, its the truth all the way.
And I must say for some who hates Mahathir and don't care to read his memoirs, there are mighty lot of comments.

Only one word, Dato' to describe Mahathir, he is a compulsive liar.

He lied to himself to the extent that he believed what he said and wrote were true.

He is a specialist in distorting history, events and facts.

So from an Indian Peranakan to a full blooded Malay is no big deal for Mahathir.

What I say is what I am!

Most men of Mahathir's age would be looking up to Almighty God.

But Mahathir is still busy looking down at the many notes he has. Mind the pun on the word - notes.

When Mahathir meets the Almighty, He will say to him, my son why do you have so much notes.

Is it to be used to pervert truth!

If so, I have to tell you, son, here in my eternal kingdom, notes (dollars) have no value.

Only truth will ensure your entry into paradise.
