In celebration of Dato Najib

WHY THEN TONIGHT LET US ASSAY OUR PLOT.

Some will open their bottles of Dom Perignon. Some do it with Moet Chandon. Some will do both plus their usual intake of Habana cigars. Each costs RM200-300. Perhaps with each inhale of the smoke from a cigar that has been rolled on a virgin’s thighs will make some people forget that groping episode at the 5 star hotel.

Many people are elated that Dato Najib has been named the successor to Dato Seri Abdullah Badawi. Dato Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis who is still smarting from his exit from a cabinet post, awaits with trepidation. His anxieties aside, other people have been queuing up to greet and kiss Dato Najib’s hand.

In Pekan, tomorrow UMNO members will hold special prayers. Perhaps their supplications have been answered at last. The Pekan UMNO will pray for Dato Najib’s good health so that the announced possibility turns into an actuality. A posse ad esse- from possibility to actuality.

That Dato Seri Najib should be named the successor is a certainty. It cannot be otherwise, say the Pekan folks. It is his destiny. The son of the the great Tun Razak. Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious summer by this son of Pekan, and all the clouds that low’r’r upon our house, in the deep bosom of the ocean buried..

But why wait till 2 years time? Why not now. Meanwhile in the land of the rising sun- Muhyiddin is heard lamenting- one may smile and smile and be a villain.

But maybe Dato Najib isn’t smiling after all. Perhaps Dato Najib knows he has been corralled. He feels uneasy. Now that he is trapped he can no longer announce he will go for the president’s post. Dato Seri Abdullah made sure he is trapped.

The best that Dato Najib can do is to say he will defend his post. Suggesting that he will be challenged for that post. While Dato Seri Abdullah is already reasonably safe from Dato Najib’s challenge, he will face some other contenders.

The person who stands to lose most is Tan Sri Muhyidin. Word has it that he has been talking with Dato Seri Najib. The latter will go for the president’s post while Tan Sri Muhyidin will go for the number two post. With the announcement on the 10th of July whatever understanding that has been reached between the deputy president and vice president is now breached. What will Muhyidin do?

He will have no options but to fight on. He can either offer himself for the top post bypassing Dato Najib. Or he can now form an alliance with the stalking grey eminence, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah to challenge the team of Pak Lah and Dato Najib.

Although UMNO Selangor has said that it will back the team of Pak Lah-Najib, it’s not the whole nine yards yet. Support from Selangor appears wholesome because the spokesman is Tan Sri Muhd Muhd Taib. We are not sure whether his enthusiasm is shared by the other division chiefs. Dato Seri Khir Toyo may have other considerations.

We have not heard from the other states where the branch meetings are yet to be held. UMNO divisions in Johore, Trengganu, Perlis, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan may have alternative views.

So my Pekan bothers, let us pray for the noblest Pekanite. Deliver us from these tribulations. Amiin.
