Factoring in TDM(2)
I thought I made it clear at the outset, in my first paragraph, how I feel about TDM. That cardinal point seemed to have been sidelined. It has been conveniently ignored. That is the usual strategy employed when attention is meant to be directed elsewhere. Instead what I get are paranoid and xenophobic responses defending TDM. TDM does not need any defending. His record of 22 years is testimony of both his political longevity and deftness. I have said that Malaysia is what she is because of TDM. Our deference for TDM however becomes converted into the linchpin to make unreasonable extrapolations. This rabbit out of the hat trick must be resisted. Our deference to TDM does not demand absolute and total acquiescence in what TDM says. Our respect of him is not diminished on account of a difference in opinions. Hopefully this will be the new way, the new administration factors in TDM. The mistake by Pak Lah's Media Mafia last time, was to sideline and demonise TDM. He can't be stopped. He has his own blog which makes a more interesting reading than down-the- throat pushing style of Messrs Kalimulah and company. The new way is to engage TDM's formidable intellect. One respects his opinions not by total acceptance but honour his thoughts by debating them. He is included into our scheme of things, recognised and respected. No the father is not blamed for the sun son who sets. The father becomes the ultimate leverage. The father steps in where the son is a wimp. Pity then we the unfortunate ones who have no big fathers.

Jangan bunyi takut.TDM bukan that great sangat.Bagus tu baguslah sebab kpala otak dia doktor.Tapi janganlah puji bercerit2 sangat ok? And jangan lupa, TDM tahu how to deal with those who criticised him during his 22years of premiership!Takde siapa brani menegur.Kamikaze lah!
Nice one Dato, at least you did touch on Kalimulah (wanna make me puke Dr. Spin)….but can KJ disassociate himself from the like of Kalimulah and from his past….?

If you’re a KJ man, you’re the kind of people that KJ should avoid.
what??? dato sak putting down hi ak47 and his hands up!!!
Sir:
Someone from Tun's office will devour the profound thoughts of Sakmongkol and I am sure the Tun shall be largely comforted.
I wish to look beyond events set to unfold this week vis-a-vis Tun instead.
Serving Ministers not included in Najib's First Cabinet should be proud to function as learned MPs. Thousands are hopeful that they would some day be parliamentarians, which really is a big deal. All former Ministers should serve with pride and dedication as backbenchers.
The refrain that they should not be tossing questions related to their former Ministries is absurd. They have gained precious insight in their former roles which is something the nation should benefit from.
Najib badly needs great parliamentarians to lock Anwar, Kit Siang and Karpal in memorable debates. Go on and produce those repartee that would lodge in Dewan Dispatches by that brilliant writer whose name I must try to remember.
Which brings us to the question of whether Tun Mahathir is the national arbiter of proper conduct and honesty. Also does Najib have an idea of the supposedly tainted politicians the Tun does not wish to see in Najib's Cabinet? Should Najib simply ignore Tun's resulting protestations?
The desire to change will be mostly demonstrated in the Cabinet appointments being the biggest tangibles. I think Tun Mahathir has in fact facilitated the task of Najib in the sense that he has the insurance to make as drastic a change he so desires and deftly deflects the blame. He will at once placate the nation and Tun Mahathir. All serving Ministers should now accept that their tenure of office has become most precarious.
This will preclude senseless lobbying and a drastic loss of stature. I think Shahrir Samad did not do too badly at all as a Backbencher, therefore setting a benchmark for such a dignified role.
Najib and Tun Mahathir will disagree on one fundamental issue, but I believe the Tun will cease being strident on this issue over time. It concerns the position of Khairy Jamaluddin. This 33-year-old MP is precisely the sort of personality who should inhabit Najib's Cabinet to demonstrate a new courage to sprint in the fine Mahathirism tradition.
Everyone is perfectly aware that Khairy was hard done by, by the decision of the Lembaga Disiplin. It hardly resembles a taint and the public ought to be told the truth on this matter. Tun Mahathir similarly need to be assuaged, and should the Mantan has all the facts, he would most certainly soften his stance on Khairy Jamaluddin.
Mukhriz is in the mid 40s, thus double the average age of the millions of new voters set to impose their will on the country in 2013. It should not unnerve us if Mukhriz does not win the Pemuda Contest. The preferences of the Delegates shall be obvious. They are mostly in their 20s and would best relate to someone nearest to their age-group.
Mukhriz is most decidedly a shoe-in in Najib Administration, regardless of the outcome of tomorrow's Contest.
Afterwhich Tun Mahathir and Malaysia will have to forge a new kind of partnership. It should yield a win-win thing. The man is fascinating. He would remain in national consciousness for some time yet. I think those reporters putting up questions at him should have a greater grasp of the man's intellect. Only the most talented of reporters should be allowed to get anywhere near the man. One silly question and the man shall be ruthless. A think tank should be swiftly formed to study this daily exchange between reporters and politicians, the outcome of which determine our mood for the day.
I think the stage is perfectly set for Najib to be an inspiring Prime Minister. Most Establishment supporters hate this fatigue, a senseless sniping at the Administration. They want to cheer for a change. On his part, Pak Lah will be an asset to the nation, as a Mantan. With the pressure of daily KPI off him, the nation can expect some pleasant surprises from Pak Lah. He will give us most enlightened quotes on national conduct.
We must all try to be less cynical and more upbeat.
Memujinya bukan bererti kita takut, mengkritiknya bererti kita berbeza pendapat tetapi bukan semestinya kita betul.
THE DOCTOR IS THE DISEASE!
DM seems to be practicing his real profession-a physician-analysing the UMNO condition.
He has been all over the place making allegations not necessarily substantiated by facts.
I personally think..the less DM talks the better it is for the nation.
"His record of 22 years is testimony of both his political longevity and deftness."
You must be joking to write that.
His 22 years is what we are getting today... endless toll, high electricity tariffs , cronies all over the places still milking the rakyat... and happening now with the water concession by Federal to enrich the cronies fighting the Selangor govt///
Gosh is I am to write all the wrong things this guy did... I would need an enclopedia.
Which part has he did for Malaysia that is good? Everything from education to the country's economy went down in spite of the huge oil, the resources of the huge Chinese population and no natural disasters.... you name it.
... and you mention his 22 years of???
Lately this guy is turning racists.
Toks nak tanya sikit.
Check out this Ti Lian Ker lame comment on Tun
http://tilianker.blogspot.com/2009/03/menangkis-logik-tun-mahathir.html
I am laughing to my teeth when I read this point
Is he trying to blame Tun for his so called PREMATURE POLITICAL DEATH
That cardinal point seemed to have been sidelined. It has been conveniently ignored. That is the usual strategy employed when attention is meant to be directed elsewhere.
Yes, you sure got that right!!!
calun tak boleh berkempen hentam calun lain dalam pertandingan KP. tak nampak MM hentam KJ. tapi MM pakai bapak dia bedil peluru meriam kat KJ.
nampak sangat wei anak dia kurang berwibawa untuk menangkis KJ. makin ramai org hentam budak hitam ni makin popular sakan pulak dia.
aku rasa berilah peluang budak2 main sesama dia. jangan ler orang tua masuk campur. biar seada kita tukang sorang dari luar beri semangat.
nampak makin ari makin matang budak itam ni. besar peluang dia nih...
kluangman,
salah ker bawak kawan2 main kat rumah masa bapak pergi keluar. at least bapak tak masuk campur pergi jalan jauh2.
kalo gitu kita pesan kat anak2 kita jangan ajak kawan2 datang rumah. nak jumpa kat cyber cafe ker or mc donald or starbuck.
kluangman,
finally you've got your batradar a bit right.
memuji bukan ertinya takut..whylah takut sangat nak puji KJ tu? Asyik mengutuk tonggang terbalik!
Mengkritik reflect beza pendapat? True true.Tapi bukan ertinya betul! Waaah! That is very very correct batman!
The KJ,KT and MM KP race is a typical example of bapak pergi lempang anak orang waktu mereka bergaduh sesama dia. Don't play2 with TDM.Tua tapi gigi penuh!Hancur dia kunyah!
Your observation is spot on. Whatever it is, UMNO needs to regain its strength. As I have said in http://dnightcaller.blogspot.com/2009/03/of-umno-youth-between-mm-kt-kjand.html that KJ has to bide his time. His time will come soon.
For now, UMNO needs rebranding and in that process KJ is not part of the rebranding process. Not yet...

Rumah itu rumah Perdana Menteri, mat oi. Bukan lah rumah Kerajaan biasa, bukan lah kuaters biasa.

This is exactly what Tun is saying in the Perkasa talk the other day. When Malays talk about improving themselves they will be branded racists. In your comment, you mentioned about Malaysia having a large population of Chinese which you imply as a main driver for the country's growth. Grow up and stop this higher than thou attitude! Typical PR stuff. cheh!

Naik sampai lif 2 aje dah kena turun balik.
KJ - Dia pilihan saya. Komen ku ringkas, sewaktu aku ni nak memberi pendapat yg berbeza, ana ni pakai logik. Kita kalau kata sokong KJ, pukan pekara yg dulunya popular. Terima kasih banyak-banyak
Orang Melayu tak suka dan pantang, org yg tak reti menghormati org yg lebih tua.
Dalam Islam pun disarankan menghormati org tua. Rezeki mencurah2. Peluang allah buka luas.
Bagus bidalan melayu. Ambil Iktibar.
Cuba buat perbandingan.
1)Bapak yg tolong kempen. (yeke, aku tak nampak dia sebut nama anaknya)
2)Yg beri rumah untuk berkempen atas tiket pak besaq.
Ko sah salah terjah, ko sebut la macam2. Dah tak boleh memang beb! surrender ajerlah.

Waah boleh jadi tukang tilek pulak! DSNajib entah2 lagi hebat sebagai PM.Engko nak TDM tapi Allah swt dah kata 22years dah cukup! Engko melawan takdir?? Hoi hebatnya!
If only one had been in his entourage during TDM's working visits overseas when he was PM. That was the moment when one would really feel proud being a Malaysian.
I agree with you that TDM needs no one to defend him. But nevertheless I wish to state categorically that it is utterly disgraceful there are those who take pleasure in badmouthing and demonising him the moment he left office. Itulah agaknya kenapa Malaysia ditimpa bala sekarang ini.
It seems everyone is an expert. They seem to know more than anyone else. Open their mouth and put in their big feet in at the same time.
Nobody seems to have any sense of respect. Name calling and condemning people, regardless whether it is TDM or not, seemed an acceptable values.
The very culture we want others to hold to is exactly the one we do not live up to. You think TDM is your little boy to pooh pooh?
If one cannot differentiate between giving an opinion in a respectable manner than squeaking like an arrogant monkey, where is the hope for a better future.
Is this a sign of over education? western values that sooner or latter accepts marriage of same sexes?
Comment by all means. BUT let our values show that we are indeed expecting good people by applying good example of ourselves.
We get leaders we deserve...reflection of ourselves and the society we live in.
TDM has left a legacy of pros and cons. Unfortunately the cons override the pros. Just 6 years ago Malaysians were thankful that he had resigned as PM. The results of the 2004 elections was a testimony to that. Paklah's inefficiency and his lack of promised reforms led to the current status of UMNO and BN and the elevation of Najib as President of UMNO and most likely PM. TDM has been making noise since Paklah refused to honor TDM's requests and to continue his legacy and as such his hatred and determination to bring Paklah down. Najib would do perhaps and probably well if he were to be the decision maker and not let TDM influence him in his decisions.
Dato Sak has been consistent in his support for KJ as KP. We have to respect that consistency. However his support came in the last few months using his blog. Before that nobody knew his stand.
Dr.Mahathir has been consistent too in his attack against KJ, Pak Lah and the Fourth Floor from day one. Way before this UMNO KP election. His attack is not a recent event. Why so surprise? We have to respect that consistency.
TDM is not campaigning for Mukhriz, he is campaigning for KJ not to be elected as KP. Big difference there. Mukhriz is capable to campaign by himself , its just happened that he has TDM as his father. Mukhriz is a strong man, don’t be mislead by his polite and soft façade. He is a dragon that can throw fire when needed and keep cool most of the time. A sign of a very fine and cultured person.
The contestants for this KP post do not come into this election as individuals only but carry with them their belief, principle and the back ground of their struggle. Yes, Mukhriz is not the same person as his father but he will carry with him the same belief and principle as that of TDM. That alone will sooth and calm the soul for many UMNO delegates after 5 years of uncertainty in the wilderness of Pak Lah’s land.
Yes very true that TDM don’t need defending, but actually the rest of us are defending TDM’s belief and the principle behind his great effort for this country. Attacking TDM would mean attacking us. A sign of a great leader.
Beginilah bila berdepan dengan the lidah bercabang and mind boggling tongue twisters. We complain as to how unfair TDM uses his popular reputation as a mantan PM to comment about DSN or to campaign for his little boy, hooi dah terus kena tuduh kurang ajar and tak hormat orang tua! You guys be honest! Dont tell me you tak pernah biadap kat your parents? How many of you can sumpah you've never bitch or melawan your parents? Is the KP race a fair fight? Its you all yang tak beradap menuduh orang tak hormat orang tua! Our parents pun taught us good manners!
Saya ni tak pandai. Tapi nak buat sikit komen.
Saya setuju sangat dengan Navi.
Tambah: Pak Lah pun patut kena tegur. Dia lemah sangat. Kucar kacir kita sekarang. Dulu masa Pak Det pun dah mula teruk. Sekarang banyak teruk. Harap Pak Najib boleh baikki. Kalau tidak merana kita.
Saya tak rasa Pak Det kempen anak dia. Dia kempen tak mahu menantu Pak Lah. Yang ni saya setuju dengan Pak Det.
Saya pun setuju dengan Pak Det.
Biasalah penyokong khairy, bila umpan dia tabur sana sini tak menjadi, mula la terjerit terlolong macam beruk mak yek.
Terlalu tamak nakkan kuasa, no. 1 lupa adab menghormati org tua. Main suka aja cakap.
Saya rasa TDM aja generasi angkatan lama yg berjuang tulus ikhlas semacam mana mula2 malaysia ditubuhkan. Prinsip nya betul, hala tuju nya ada.
Nak cari org cam gini payah dah sekarang.
Pemimpin skrg dah kaya nak kaya dan kaya dan kaya. Muka pengampu pun ramai. Aku teringat cerita2 mitos zaman Hang Tuah. Tak mitos mana pun. Masih berlaku zaman skrg. 1511 melaka hancur. Malaysia..bagaimana..Masih adakah melayu di muka bumi melayu nanti. Takut2 menjadi pencacai aje di tanah sendiri.
Mungkin nanti org akan keluar buku, melayu pernah memerintah ni hanya sebagai hanya mitos.
Melayu, melayu...
Masa hujung2 tu...jadi teruk sebab ada antara menteri yg tak sabar2 nak jadi no. 2. Semua rasa pandai. Mulalah perangai macam2 keluar.
Kalau dah satu dunia, setiap negara bangkit...faham2 sendirilah..Ekonomo tak berapa nak kembang... manusia tamakkan harta dunia..

It's not too often that we read comments like what Sir Tong Kol 24 March 2009 01:01 has written here. The sanity, fair-mindedness and especially the hope and optimism are refreshing and help put things in a clearer perspective.
If you look at most sites on blogosphere, it's mostly doom and gloom; as if there's nothing good in this country, and facing only bleak possibilities in its future.
I suspect many of us have been influenced into this overly negative state and mode due to overexposure to the SoPo blogs - especially those sympathetic to PR and are rabidly against Umno and BN.
[Very easy to recognise them - they tend to proclaim being `neutral', `not a member of any political party' and loudly thump their chests as `without fear or favour'. POODAH!]
Over time, many readers would indeed be affected by the posts and comments - at the very least, they might become increasingly cynical.. always suspicious whenever something good is mentioned about the country.
And some commentators appear to be students and disciples of the `Starbucks Bangsar Faculty of Philosophy' - the type that feels it is hip to oppose the government, and that they exude political and social suaveness and sophistication in always focusing on "how the country is going down the drain".
Their idol and arbiter "of all things good and just" was the US - until revelations of human rights abuses committed became too loud to dismiss.
And the financial meltdown, of course; which also tore to shreds their "model of accountability" that Malaysia should base itself on [Psst! How much was the bailout of AIG *alone* as compared to the *total* of what Dr Mahathir had allocated for `crony companies' during the whole of our own late 90's currency crisis?]
Yes, Malaysia faces a lot of problems. And Umno *is* a source of some of these. However, don't belittle either Malaysia or Umno too much - until there's *really* a better total replacement for the latter, let's see whether we can whip and kick it into being of service - we can always kill it at the 13th GE. But until then, these new leaders must be given a reasonable chance first.
The trouble with TDM is that he feels UMNO belongs to him and that he is the ONE to lead. The rest are idiots to be manipulated. But he forgotten that he is no more in UMNO and why the f#@$% he is so involve with the current situation.Does he own Najib and the rest of those delegates. He massacred Pak Lah(anyway he was'nt good but a conn jobber)and he wants more blood! Most of you say he is the greatest but really??
Adoi Sak.
The Ringgit was mighity and nearly on par with the Singapore Dollar. Ringgit commanded respect all over the world. We Malaysians when travelling overseas could buy more and stay and travel more but all changed when Mahathair came to power. Ringgit started its downward spiral and going the way like the Thai Baht . When the Ringgit became weak and naturaly it was the target of the currency traders. I remeber the good old days when the 1 pound was worth 2 plus ringgit.
Why did this happen
1. Borrowing to fuel one man's legacy as a great bulider
2. Make Malaysian goods cheap as they say cheap but good quality. Good quality it is a bunch of bullshit
3.To help convert illegally stash money overseas which was aquired by illegal means to convert into more ringgits.
4. Ringgit gets devalued when ever a election comes as to bring in money from overseas to fuel BN's election machinery
and so on on on.
Now it makes it so difficult for us non-Bumiputras to educate our children overseas. Our children can not get places in the universities and also were depreived of education overseas. This was the old man plan to make the non-Bumis lesser educated and in a couple of generations the Bumis will be the superior race in Malaysia. But we Non-Bumis worked harder and became more resilent and earn more and kept on sending our kids overseas to have quality education.
This is what the oldman was trying to do is kill the hopes of non-Bumis kids and their future.
Anybody else want to add on this.
What factoring about TDM , he is and still is the greated traitor to the Malaysian dream. He will do all just to destroy the peace. He is Lucifier in flesh
Tun's nightmare

You have your right of say but I don't think you are right on some of what you say.
In the early 1970s the Pound was about RM7. Tun Razak was PM then.
I don't like TDM much but it's absurd to suggest that he planned that the non-Bumis get lesser educated, overseas or elsewhere. Say what you like about his book, The Malay Dilemma, he had allowed the non-Bumis to prosper in the country. You may not like the NEP but you must appreciate that while the Bumis may get billion Rinngit contracts, the non-Bumis also get billion Ringgit contracts and sub-contracts. He didn't stop or do anything against the Bumis
sub-contracting the entire contracts they got to non-Bumis, beyond trying to get Bumi contractors improve their capacity etc.
If you talk about abuse of power, cronyism etc I might agree with you. But blaming TDM for the more expensive overseas education is not right.
