War Drums Beating-2

When Muhyidin Yassin, the would be contender for the UMNO deputy president’s post succeeded in persuading Tun Mahathir to rejoin UMNO, he accomplished several objectives.

  1. It shows he is a man of substance. Less talk more action. While others are content in mouthing palliatives about regrets on Tun Mahathir leaving UMNO, Muhyidin actually went to Tun Mahathir and did something. Shadow to the substance, hustle to the bustle.
  2. It shows what all the other UMNO leaders were afraid to do, respect Tun Mahathir. I have long felt, one of the reasons UMNO has lost credibility, is because the present leadership does not respect its former long time leader.
  3. Most important, it pulls the carpet under Najib’s feet, stealing the thunder from him.
  4. Muhyidin proved to all, that Najib is a bloody hypocrite in wanting Tun back in but does not have the testicular fortitude to actually meet up Tun.
  5. By doing that, Muhyidin has capped the most valuable feather in his cap.

That quickly upsets Najib’s tradition-ladden plan. What can Najib’s supporters, retinue of advisers and hangers on do? Devise some ways to shore up Najib’s sinking ratings.

So now ,Najib has come out with the most daring plan he has ever done. To now suggest that the power transition plan made between the UMNO wrecking crew a.k.a. the devilish duo, needs to be endorsed by divisional meetings.

Now, this bravest decision implies a few things.

  1. Najib must do something to recover lost prestige and loss of face for not having made actual overtures to Tun Mahathir
  2. Having realised he can’t do anything about that anymore, he wants to employ a tactic which he thinks can outmanoeuvre Muhyidin- by having all the UMNO bahagians endorse the transition plan.
  3. Its just an attempt by Najib to save his own skin having now realised that Captain Abdullah’s ship is sinking bringing him along to the bottom of the sea. Its typical Najib.

But let’s humour Najib, for here is a person partial to being humoured, entertained and feted with life’s pleasurable offerings. You know, picture the scene where nubile ladies clad in togas, delectably offering grapes and the best of wines, while Emperor Najib lounges on the chamois.

Why does he support putting out the agreement to test? At the UMNO divisions?

  • Because his advisers think, he has more grassroots support than Abdullah Badawi.
  • Because he thinks he has the UMNO warlords in his deep pockets.
  • Because he thinks this is a better way to avoid being viewed as penderhaka to a gentlemanly agreement between two wreckers.

But he is forgetful about many things. Why not allow the divisions to decide who they actually want as UMNO President and Deputy? Why stop at only endorsing the unholy plan? If you can do that, you can this too.

But more importnat, while he was partying and was zonked after being named the successor to the now disputed agreement, understanding or MOA or with whatever name one terms this unholy alliance, Tengku Razaleigh, the other eminence grise of Malaysian politics had taken over the grounds ignored by Najib Razak.

Hence Muhyidin teaming up with Tengku Razaleigh, supported by the original eminence grise of Malaysia, Tun Mahathir will be the setting for the night of the long knives for spineless Najib.

Man, what a sweet thought this is- ABN, Anyone But Najib.

Tuan,
