UMNO's own Desolate Wasteland.

I said to my soul, be still and wait without hope, for hope would be hope for the wrong thing; wait without love, for love would be love of the wrong thing; there is yet faith, but the faith and the love are all in the waiting. Wait without thought, for you are not ready for thought: So the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing.

I first heard of these lines from Comrade Kassim ( Kassim Ahmad) circa 1977. He was participating in one of the forums at the University of Malaya Campus. He was also the chairman of PSRM then, hence the prefix Comrade. Nowadays I hear he is a religious ascetic and he remains, as I have always imagined, a rigorous thinker.
The lines were taken from TS Eliot’s poem Waste Land.  Spoken in a melancholic manner by Comrade Kassim, the words left a deep impression on me. To me, the words sounded like a mournful and forlorn longing for the right hope. Or the desirable hope.
And that is what we Malaysians have to face soon at the GE13. We are besieged by hopes really. The promises of the BN versus the promises of PR. What the BN and PR are offering us are hopes actually. So between the two hopes, which one shall we embrace for the renewal of our soul?
Why is UMNO/BN doing by any means necessary to suffocate the yet to be born hopes of PR? Because it can no longer justify and defend its own promises to the promises offered by PR. That is why Najib and friends are going around the country, appealing, threatening, cajoling and pontificating that PR can never fulfill the promises it makes. Because they can’t compete with pure and unadulterated hopes the PR are offering.
People disbelieve and mistrust the promises and hopes offered by UMNO/BN. the promises have been adulterated and broken by abuses, corruption, economic deprivation, and emasculation of the judiciary, the misuse of oppressive instruments, lies and deceit. The promises offered by BN however well-meaning, despite being rendered in angelic tones by the superb acting of Najib, despite suggesting good intentions, are prejudged as already contaminated. They are already condemned by the living memory of the rakyat who shall never forget all the abuses, corruption and violations.
The PR are offering unadulterated and pure hopes which are configurable by minds that are seeking salvation from the oppressive and tainted promises of UMNO/BN.
Why will the people reject the promises of UMNO/BN? because they offer pessimism as opposed to optimism by PR. The people are waiting for deliverance. Najib can run, but he can never hide.
UMNO offers darkness which shall no longer be seen as light. It offers stillness that shall never again be mistaken as the graceful dance.

Dato, the sooner the GE is come and gone the better it will be for the country and all Malaysians. The faster a new PR government takes over from the Umno/BN a change for the better times to come it will be for the people.

After the GE the Malaysian people have to come together and close ranks to rebuild the country from its brink of banktuptcy. It will take many long years for the country to recover from the plundering of the nation's wealth from Umnoputras and cronies.

The new GOM will have to find ways to improve the economy and pay off the nations debts,or else it will become another Pigg's nation.

After 56 years let's give the PR a chance to run the country for a change.Let us Malaysians, once and for all show the Umnoputras and the rest of the world we got real balls to have change.

Dear Dato Sak

French writer Victor Hugo once said, “You can resist an invading army; you cannot resist an idea whose time has come.”

Government of the people, by the people, for the people.
(Not Government of UMNO-BN kleptocrats,by kleptocrats and only for kleptocrats and assorted
hanger-ons).

Dear Sakmongkol

“We are besieged by hopes really. The promises of the BN versus the promises of PR.”

It is true. We are always besieged by hopes. It is part of the human condition to hope for better things even when our current circumstances are good. That was how humans progressed over millennia, from one uncertain meal a day to two, and then to plenty.

But our collective hopes over the past decades should have been better fulfilled by BN, which had been in uninterrupted power for 55 years. During this time we have moved from one meal to three, figuratively speaking. But we haven’t quite got to the age of plenty as Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan have. They were like us or worse after WW2, but see for yourself what they have achieved, each a powerhouse of ideas and talents and producers of advanced goods and services.

Where are we? Still waiting for promises to be fulfilled by BN. Here is just one example. Malaysians have been waiting for cheaper and better cars with more choices, but BN is more interested in protecting a no-hope 30-year old car company called Proton that churns out just 220,000 cars a year, what Hyundai would make in just 3 weeks. The whole idea of starting Proton was to make it the nucleus of a vibrant automobile industry. Instead it has become a most visible symbol of a failed industrial policy that benefits no one but impoverishes millions of car owning Malaysians. PR has promised to remove car excise duties if in power. That would make cars 30% cheaper. That’s a promise we all look forward to.

BN has promised to eradicate corruption, but the MACC has only succeeded in causing the death of Teoh Beng Hock over just RM2400. Meanwhile, Taib Mahmud has stolen billions of Ringgit from Sarawak to the common knowledge of everyone. Yet when questioned in Parliament, Najib said: we are still investigating. But look at Penang and Selangor. They have instituted open tenders and saved hundreds of millions a year, and use part of that money to benefit the people through gifts and grants. That’s promises unfulfilled and fulfilled.

Najib has promised in the New Economic Model that the government will not compete with the private sector, which will be the engine of growth. Now he has announced the building of TRX, a RM26 billion project for 6 million square feet of commercial space in KL, and the Sungei Besi Air Force Base will be turned into Bandar Malaysia. Both these projects by 1MDB, a government owned company, are competing with the private sector and creating massive over supply of space. Yet another broken promise by BN.

By looking at these 3 examples we can clearly see the record of BN in keeping promises. Najib, and before him, Mahathir, has promised us that Malaysia will become a developed nation by year 2020. That I am afraid, will be another broken promise.

Dato, once a new gomen is in and Umno/BN is gone, the people will come together irrespective of race and religion. Then maybe the good times we had during our childhood and schooldays where children of all races can mix and play together will come full cycle.

I can still remember my Malay,Chinese and Indian friends joined our Christian friends for midnight mass on Christmas eve.We celebrate every thing. From Christmas,New Year,Chinese New Year,Hari Raya and Depavali.

I can still remember seeing Lim Kit Siang and Karpal Singh from the early days.I can still recall the time Albert Mah was standing for MP on an Mca ticket. His wife and two daughters were there when the votes were counted. My uncle was standing for a state seat on a Gerakan ticket. Both men won.

Everybody was congragulating each other.I went over to shake Albert's hands, and his wife hugged me.I was in my teens then and that was the first and last time I saw them.Last I read,he was killed in a robbery in his home.

Say what you want to say and write as much too. Will the rakyat listen and vote for the PR or BN is for us to see .

Bruno, i have lived longer than most of you here including Sakmongkol himself to know how peaceful it was in the 50's,60's ,70's and even 80's. and how the various races have worked to develop this nation together working on our diverse strength as one.I cannot say much of now because so much hatred has been written im many blogs touching on sensitive issues on religion and race , pointing fingers at each other.Hope after PRU 13 is over the elected government must do something to correct the rift and stop this bickering.PEACE.- @KM.

A short face saving piece........back on track

Hope spring eternal in the human breast. But as a product of sekolah melayu I don't have any hope for my future.

400 over imams and JKKK got free passage to Haj and soon to Heaven. So much Najib dare to corrupt !
UMNO thinks God Allah must be another UMNO member!

Patrick 28 August 2012 at 16:20

Let's face it, BN/UMNO has ran out of steam after 50 years in power with the same old geriatric uneducated bunch. No more new social or economic policies to advance the country. Only getting more restrictive and regressive self protectionists social policies. Any new policies are meant for self preservation and personal financial gain.

Suddenly when there is new competition in town, they run helter skelter trying to defend their age old fort with age old and outdated thinking. When these old geriatrics fart, they are proud of it as this is the best they can do to show that they can still do something on their own. But the smell is just killing off everybody who didnt hear it coming, whilst those who heard it will run for cover.

The younger, educated opposition has demonstrated beyond doubt, their thinking capacity, and its refreshing. They are willing to explore avenues for the sake of the country as a whole, not in seggreggated holes, as the govt is prone to doing. The govts recent spate of double-standard application of just-passed-legislation is appalling and condenscending. They just keep fumbling and fumbling with every justification and cover up attempts. Its simply amazing and mind boggling the array of idiocies that keeps cropping up. For example, it downright ridiculous to see Najib spent hundreds of millions of ringgit to prop up his image overseas only to be caught by the very audience he paid to look good and smell good. Now he looks like a mickey mouse and smells like rotten palm oil fruit.

We have to change govt NOW. I am actually glad that the opposition is very credible and has proven their mental and IQ capacity. By comparison, the current crop in govt should be rustled up and send to the retirement plot for good. fast.

The Opposition has claimed on behalf of Singapore that she has no corruption, nepotism, cronyism etc. My answer is :-

i) The sale of Kim Eng Securities to Maybank.
ii) The importation of 5,000 pigs daily.
iii) Service contracts to flower nurseries etc.
iv) Miscellaneous.

sdra alifbata,

Parti mana?

yes a new future, when Malay, Chinese, Indian, Christians, Sikhs will recognize and celebrate each other's niceness, achievement, moments of happiness and festivals as friends or akin to extended family members. And really make a positive difference in helping each other without hesitation. Celebrating the similarities, and seeing less of the difference thorough compassion, mature empathy, understanding to rebuild our workplace, our communities and our nation - being color blind (that takes the highest form of acceptance and affection of looking out for each other ),or at least being inclusive of fellow Malaysians. Cheers.

The new Umno paid troopers are worse deceivers : unemployed grads from overseas those majoring the least academic courses. They now resort to posting “ believable civil posts” to get PK supporters to reply civilly, which is the obvious. Then they delete their original posts, and re-post abusive posts to PK supporters’ civil posts. Umno troopers are bullshit like umno leaders – good as recalcitrant deceivers, wolves, leopards, aka mahathir in sheep's clothing ! Vote them all OUT OUT OUT !

bat 8,

Sekira anda di beri pilihan antara DAP dan UMNO mana pulak yang ands pilih ?

Alan Newman 29 August 2012 at 20:00

What they – BN give to entice voters is the tax-payers’ money! Day in, day out, deceiving & fooling the people. What about the billions that went missing? What about MACC’s investigation of Sarawak’s Taib, 31 years in power with all resources, contracts, activities under his thumb? They only care about staying in power at the expense of the Rakyat, at the people’s poverty & misery. Crooked, rotten, shameless, despicable. Vote them out! Am writing from a truly transparent and democratic country, NZ.

Alan Newman 29 August 2012 at 20:01

In a democratic country, Dr MM, Najib, Taib, etc would be arrested and tried for treason, undermining and destroying the Nation through: a) Apartheid & racism. b) Deception of the public with controlled media and rigged elections. c) Weakening almost all institutions of governance including the legislature, judiciary, police, ACC/MACC, the Election Commission, and the Attorney-General's Chambers. d) Mis-management, manipulation and corruption causing losses in hundreds of billions of RM$. If convicted all stolen assets to be returned and then the Convicts executed for treason. It is appalling these people behave like heroes, saints and kings without the slightest remorse or sense of shame. His sons are directors of 200 companies and drive some of the most expensive cars in the world, eg the Ferrari Enzo & the RM5.5million Bugatti Veyron…Am writing from a truly transparent and democratic country, NZ.

Pada saya UMNO itu tetap UMNO .Baru dan lama adalah pada persepsi orang yang tak suka Mahathir tetapi yang suka terlalu banyak dari yang tak suka.UMNO akan terus menjadi parti tu
