The Politician and the Intellectual Brahmin

Note: the initial title was the Politician and the Intellectual Mandarin.

Let us make this country better. This country is now owned by all Malaysians. We are all equal stakeholders. We can make this country better by changing the government. That is why we are calling for a regime change.
Surprisingly that simple proposition is too difficult for some people to understand.  Chandra Muzaffar despite  his intellectual self finds it difficult to understand precisely because he cannot understand the motivations, the hopes and fears of the people. He might be saying "these are but people riding the Clapham Omnibus".  Mahathir on the other hand is worried about the change because a regime change will expose all his hollow achievements.
Like someone close to him said- history will judge Mahathir on corruption. Why does Mahathir busy himself with desperate efforts to maintain the tyranny of the status quo? Mahathir’s growing involvement in present politics is nothing short of a damning indictment on Najib. Mahathir’s overshadowing presence in UMNO politics clearly shows that Najib is an incapable leader who is impotent most of the time. Mahathir considers Najib a useless and utterly ineffective leader. Long in form, very very short in substance. Therefore if Najib can become PM, anyone else can too.
This coming election is not about the culmination of efforts to make Anwar Ibrahim Prime Minister. Mahathir and his followers would want us to believe in that big lie. It is a lie that we must politely refuse if we still can  do so politely.
Making Anwar Ibrahim PM, is secondary. The primary purpose is to install a good government. Now, a good government is constituted by good people. That is the fundamental requirement. We need good people, qualified, dedicated and selfless who work the system to make the country better.
When we say that, it is easy for people like Mahathir and Chandra Muzaffar to pour scorn and ridicule. How could the others do and accomplish what we have done? It’s only we the good people with the power who can do good whereas the others outside are evil and can do evil things. It’s impossible for good people like us to do evil. That is unnatural.
Now, how is it possible and easy for people like Chandra Muzaffar and a practising politician like Mahathir who has been PM for 22 years, demean those outside their group? How is it possible for these people to believe and consider themselves as the only group eminently qualified to rule this country?

People like Mahathir in politics and Chandra Muzaffar in intellectual-dom cannot understand the contradiction- both perhaps started with beliefs in libertarian ideas and objectives, but have come to believe, these objectives are attainable only though totalitarian and coercive means. Not for them the refine ideas of democracy and regime chance carried out constitutionally by other people working in voluntary cooperation with each other.
Because to have the kind of thinking they have, requires only self-flattery and emotions which are easy to come by and satisfying as well. Mahathir wallows in self-flattery by showing open surprise as to why people want to limit his politics. No one does, we must tell him. More involvement please because that will hasten BN’s demise.
In order to ‘disbelieve’ that  ‘good’ people like them can deteriorate into evil doers require a longer and indirect thinking process subordinating the emotions to rational thinking. Mahathir has no time for that and it seems Chandar Muzaffar doesn’t want to do that. To continue believing that it’s only them who can do good or continue believing that it is impossible for good people like them can ever do no good requires just that- subordinating self-praise to rational analysis.
Its only people like us who can fulfil promises and who have the experience to govern. When Chandra Muzaffar said that, he represents the section of the thinking crowd who can never reconcile to the fact and reality, that others beside themselves are capable of ruling this country. We can and will, Herr Professor.
What do we mean by good people working the system? We mean a government that will preserve and strengthen the institutions that make a democracy strong. We mean a clean system of voting process, the supremacy of parliament, an independent judiciary, an efficient civil service, an incorruptible executive part of the government.  We also want the institutions that safeguard our security- the police and military to be professional and which act with full integrity and accountability.
These are the primary motivations that move all of us, that make us brave the repressive responses of the present regime. That is why, Dr Mahathir and Chandra Muzaffar, we the people want a regime change.

Chandra Muzaffar is a total chameleon. First he was a reformed in Aliran, then entered Parti Keadilan to bring about justice. He was great critic of the BN government. Then arrested under ISA and suddenly he became a BN supporter. He has now nothing to say about corruption, emasculation of the judiciary and other institutions.
This man is a worm, a scumbag. A amn without principles.

Half baked intellectuals like Chandra, Tunku Aziz and Ridhuan Tee are a dime a dozen. These barking dogs just can't see the trees from the forest and don't realise that Malaysia has deteriorated tremendously in the past decade.
I am hopeful the Pakatan Juggernaut has enough momentum to topple Putrajaya despite EC's cheating ways. The message by DSAI is loud and clear: UBAH or PERISH. Empower thyself, not BN. Make every vote counts.
Good Luck!

Dear Sakmongkol

The title of your article should have been, “The fearful politician and the pseudo intellectual”.

Mahathir really fears a regime change because it would unravel everything that he had worked for his entire life. When we stand back and look at Malaysia and judge Mahathir’s “achievements”, what do we see? We see a man who had almost single-handedly compartmentalized this country into different races, not united us. He then exploited this division and created a crony class, which benefited very few Malays, but enriched his family and friends disproportionately. In the process, nation building got thrown out, and corruption and racism got entrenched. This is Mahathir’s legacy. This is what we must undo.

As for Chandra Muzzafar, there is no need to give him any credit for anything. He is no intellectual. Intellectual are thinkers, and they lead by showing us new ideas and new ways of doing things. If they are merely defending the status quo - and it is a bad one – what intellectual is that? Intellectuals are change agents, not mouth pieces of old, tired political ideas.

nexu2238,  12 March 2013 at 11:06

Fredrich Hayek, Noam Chomsky ... these are "Intellectual".
They are moral conscience of their age, observe the political and social situation of the moment, and speak out—freely—in accordance with their consciences.

Chandra Muzaffar is giving "Intellectual" a bad name :)

Crippled brain too.......

I once commented in Malaysia Today that he had received 5 million from Anwar and was an Anwar supporter. When the wells went dry, he turned against Anwar. He came to say that he had sued the person who made that statement about the 5 million ringgit and the matter was settled out of court. He was trying to caution me from continuing with the statement. I replied that he was publicly slandered and he settles the matter privately. It does not tell me that he was exonerated. He never came again. That is him. He will not stand up (perhaps God made sure of that), when challenged. He is a morally and intellectually bankrupt person but a dangerous one!

Anonymous,  12 March 2013 at 12:19

Did you say Chandra Muzafar is an intellectual? OMG.
This is another Indian turned Malay like Mahathir who does not have a conscience or any sense of right and wrong. He is a big fake.
Will an intellectual support such a corrupted regime which has been siphoning our wealth into personal coffers.
This mentally crippled professor needed a job and for his bread and butter he sold his soul.
Now you still call him an intellectual?

DATO
DO WASTE YOUR TIME ON THAT INTELLECTUALLY RETARDED CHANDRA.

POPEYE,  12 March 2013 at 13:24

A precise description of the dog Chandra Muzaffar is that of a cockroach that is a paralysed of the body and that of his mind and soul. He IS NOT AN INTELLECTUAL !! He is a wheelchair bound lapping dog relying on scraps from his UMNO masters. He is not worthy to be in the same building as Karpal Singh.

The "Lies" works wonder because lies is "reasonable". Throughout the centuries humanity has falled to the same trap again and again, lies are repeated until it becomes the norm. The mechanism of lies will buy you extra times, very productive.
The flaw is that the mass people has this need to "believe in some stuff" to motivate them to carry forward in life, a very convenient comfort zone till you are intoxicated.
The task to see the truth through facts and reasoning is "too tidious & painful". This is really a psychological warfare and the REAL gentlemen never take advantage of human weakness. The Truth is always there, only we choose NOT to SEE.

Chandra Muzaffar reminds me of Sharifah Zohra Jabeen, the Listen! Listen Listen! lady....

Donplaypuks® 12 March 2013 at 15:18

Just beacuse one has a PhD, it doesn't mean one an intellectual. Chanra Muzzafar is like so many turncoats - a pseudo-intellectual who is a disgrace to the Brahmin community.

Malaysian!

Combination between Mahathir and Chandra is the best team. Respectively represent Kitul and Mandeliar descent. Like lizards and snakes that togetherness. Try open their mouth and examine their tongues. You will see some similarities. Both these species have forked tongues, their conversation often convoluted. Pros big snake snake can kill with just twine. Lizards can not do it.

In Penang, these two species are very easily found in Umno or NGO Perkasa. If you are a hunter of lizards or snakes ... go to Penang because for almost every week there are demonstrations of this species there.

Chandra Muzaffar in intellectual-dom????????

He prefers BN i.e corrupt regime???

Anonymous,  12 March 2013 at 19:04

I gave up on Sankaran Pillay @ Chandra a long time ago. As for Mahathir, he never was an intellectual as he is unable to pursue a discussion to its logical conclusion. The Constitution which is the supreme law of the land , says that all Malaysians are equal. So when during his 22 year reign did he ever practice it? Instead he went about beating the colonial British at their divide and rule game at the expense of his poor countrymen.

I recognised this nearly 25 years ago and left. I will nor my off-springs will now never call Malaysia home. But I respect you and hope for the sake of my "old country" you will all succeed.

Nothing should surprise us in politics:

From "Bangsa Malaysia" talk then to racial supremacist talk now

From critic of the regime then to
"why change the status quo?" propagandist now

Hi Sakmongkol, you are very kind to address Chandra Muzzafar as a professor. Do you think he possess the intellect or even befits all the nonsensical titles and accolades that was heaped on him by Umno.Oh God !! another mamak kutty fellow. The rakyat are tired of seeing and hearing the mamaks with their false act and pretentiousness manner in the game of "Membela bangsa Melayu, Ugama dan Negara. Everyone knows that they are of another origin converting to a religion of their convenience and viola!!! now they are the Malay Wannabes. Are they reprensenting Islam truly in the practises that professes beautifully on the way of life .I am seeing that they are very violent in nature and have become racist to make sure that they are being noticed. If I am not mistaken UMNO stands for UNITED MALAY NATIONAL ORGANISATION. Where are the Malays that we know. Are they being flushed out of Umno baru and now it is UNITED MAMAK NATIONAL ORGANISATION as it is still UMNO. No wonder Chandra wannabe Kutty speaks very loud. Put him into the same dustbin where Mahashit and so called "man of principle"-- Aziz fellow. They are all basically unclassified specimen. When there is a regime change they have no place in society BUT Mahashit has to face all charges and if found guilty he has to be punished by capital punishmenmt. His crime is too serious and trecherous to the nation.

Anonymous,  12 March 2013 at 22:53

dATO,

FORGET THIS INTELLECTUAL "PONDAN".

WE HAVE A RAT WHO IS ILLEGALLY OCCUPYING THE PM OFFICE. HE HAS TO BE FLUSHED OUT BEFORE HE STEALS MORE RAKYAATS MONEY.

Seeing Najib on the TV semalam tu kesian juga tengok dia. Begging for a fresh strong mandate.I would give him just that discounting what Dato Sak has revealed.Wouldn't it be nice if were a near perfect situation where there was no corruption and all that. and I won't have to think what the future would hold for this country with the uncertainties of a new government. Would they repent if given another term.Would they take in Dato Sak as their economic advisor....I'm sure you all are losing steam as what's next to punch other than playing the old record over and over.. I dreaded the day Anwar becomes the PM. I'm for Dato Sak for PM....

Anonymous,  13 March 2013 at 06:11

Dear Dato',

I can only assume that you are referring to the comments made by Chandra Muzaffar in a recent interview which was posted on a number of websites. If so, I would have preferred for you to have given a blow by blow rebuttal of the points raised by Chandra Muzaffar, instead of simply taking a broad swipe against him. Surely as someone who aspires to bring about an enlightened system of governance in our country, this is the least you could do. Or are you deliberately avoiding the elephant in the room for fear of offending your PR colleagues?

Anonymous,  13 March 2013 at 08:58

There is virtue in giving a blow-by-blow rebuttal but who is Chandra Muzaffar to deserve this time and space when in fact he and the whole tribe sponsored by a decadent leadership have been effectively refuted countless times on countless issues for so long especially since 2008.

It is not for Anon 06:11 or anyone to choose that Chandra be refuted point by point. To do so would be to give him unjustified, unnecessary space when there is whole plethora of issues afflicting the nation. A precise detailed rebuttal would only serve to trigger another set of miscues to men and dwarfs honoured or cursed by the Dr label.

In the face of a total dark media campaign against the Opposition, especially their favourite whipping boy, DSAI, a quick, short broad brush sweep against sycophants, politicians with flexible inclinations and nomadic intellectuals with a faulty GPRS homing system, is all that is required for the moment - there are a myriad other issues to resolve, and so we move on to more critical issues and leave vainglorious propagandists to sulk or suck their thumbs.

Small man deserves small space. How else can we account for this big leap of change of faith by an Herr Doktor - he is not, after all, an ordinary Ibrahim Ali or Ridhuan Tee.

Anwar Ibrahim may not be the best person to be the next P.M; I personally don't think he is. Is Najib the best person to be P.M. in the light of the dark echoes from the past? I don't think he is either.

Readers can decide when the past started for Najib.

Anonymous,  13 March 2013 at 11:52

Huh already fed up with the current government.....

Anonymous,  13 March 2013 at 12:37

Dato Sak,it reminded of what Dr Bakri Musa's recent writing that 90% of Malays having PhDs are worth nothing more than 'toilet papers'.I guess Chandra Muzaffar fits description. Salam

Anonymous,  13 March 2013 at 18:30

They are just average ordinary people. But they dare to say the things their party like to hear, in turn they are protected or above the law.

Their party used them to create tension, confusion, divisions, insecurity, fear and etc.to hold on to power.

Faizal u r right the idiot Senator sometimes call himself Profesorry Interview on TV instead of saying what can be done for Malaysia(Tanah Melayu) the idiot Muzafaarrr took a whole interview to talk about Anwar.

Everyone is commenting so well about this Chandra Muzaffar...who is a bought mouth piece by Umno b..just like the blogger... Rockybru..to keep hero worshiping Mahathir and Najib.
Chandra...disguised as a holy man..like a Brahmin....chanting and telling lies.
He can keep on chanting...no one listen to him....but it is good to keep exposing him...the moment he starts chanting...or croaking like a frog.
A smart man he was...and for money...he sold his soul to the devil...and he is now a double headed snake...with no poison venom....nor teeth to bite.
He is another paid circus actor.
Enjoy..and treat him that way.
