The Sarawak elections

The blogger donplaypuks says Sakmongkol is read by people who think UMNO should rule 70% of this country and possibly the other 30% too.
70% should be ok. Leave out that 30%. In that 30% not ruled, include Sarawak.
This business of writing about the alleged sexcapades of Anwar Ibrahim is tiring. He is campaigning intensely in Sarawak. He wants to reduce the value of the PM's fixed deposit. He seems to be unfazed by the allegations. I have written that Anwar is insulated and desensitized beyond reach. He just does not bother about allegations, impending court cases etc. he doesn't have to because if PR wins Putrajaya, the tables will be turned.
That spells danger for Najib and his administration.
If he behaves as such, that means the UMNO boys have failed to capitalize on the issue of the smut video. They have not handled this issue well. All the 3 people behind the video got were their 10 minutes moment of fame or notoriety depending on how you look at it. They have not done a great service for UMNO. Additionally, if showing the smut video in public contravenes the law, they will get punished.
They failed to inflict maximum damage and instead were looking for 10 minutes moment of fame and glory. Otherwise, how do you explain the bravado and swagger that were clearly shown by the press conference by them? They thought they can impress UMNO and the UMNO president.
Perhaps this was the element that encouraged some people in the MSM to regard the action of the trio as heroic. If the 3 people believed it was Anwar and had wanted to inflict the maximum damage, in the shortest time with minimum cost, they should have produced thousands of VCDs and distributed them all over. Chua Soi lek's smut video for example, was distributed into letterboxes at homes. Chua soi lek didn't know what to do other than `heroically' owning up.
So, Anwar isn't bothered at all. He wants to kick this government out and is zeroing in on Sarawak. If UMNO doesn't bother, then they are dancing to Anwar's tune. UMNO and the Najib administration must bother. To hear it from the mainstream paper boys, they write as if PR and Anwar don't have a rat's ass of a chance. Well, they write so at their own peril.
There are so many issues in the Sarawak elections. Topping it is the issue of the management of the state under the leadership of `pek moh' Taib Mahmud. What has Taib Mahmud become? He may have become a Polonius the character in Hamlet who is a busy-body, who is accordingly officious, garrulous, and impertinent. In Act II Hamlet refers to Polonius as a "tedious old fool. Taib Mahmud has become that, after 30 years of unchallenged rule that has bred insensitivity and arrogance of the highest level.
Even after 30 years of rule, the majority of the people in Sarawak must be wondering, where has the state's wealth gone to? The answer, it has gone mostly to Taib and his gang. Sarawak has become a byword of unbridled corruption. This is the main issue in Sarawak.
People of Sarawak must now read through Taib's promises of better development and better welfare as not inspired by a desire to really improve the welfare of the people; people of Sarawak must now know that Taib Mahmud is driven by a desire to perpetuate his hold on to power and that of a dynasty he intends to leave behind.
Why doesn't he quit now before the elections? Because he wants to put in place his grand plan. Who is to succeed him? He wants to fish out his sons to become his successor or an outsider, so deep with him who can be counted on to look after his vast interests.
We don't have to come out with the list of pillage and plunder. The people simply know, it's happening at a grand scale. The telltale signs of corruption, pillage, theft and larceny of the state's wealth have been extensively documented. The expose about Taib Mahmud family's fabulous wealth, tales of lavish parties, palatial homes all over the world, monopolistic business practices, decadent living and so forth.
While the majority languished in rudimentary appointed long houses and hovels, the elite and the rich entertained themselves in the most decadent of lifestyles. None more tasteless and insensitive than the marriage of Taib Mahmud's niece on a luxury yacht. I think, the people of Sarawak do no have to think twice in kicking out these modern day Marie Antoinettes and the freeloaders on board the luxury yacht on that day.
The people of Sarawak have no other choice but to kick out all the corrupt politicians. Don't bother even if the party is backed by UMNO or the BN. we simply can't allow a corrupt regime to prolong. If UMNO continues to support Taib Mahmud's administration, it places itself on the side of the corrupt, the pillagers and the plunderers of the state's wealth. It simply stands on the side of the people's enemy.
I am writing this article for the people of Sarawak in mind. I believe there will many changes this time around. Taib Mahmud and his coalition will lose a majority of the urban seats. These seats will be won mainly by the DAP. I think the BN leadership has underestimated the will of the dayaks whom they think are easily taken in by the usual talk of development. From what I hear, the dayaks on the whole are resolute in wanting to kick out Taib Mahmud.
If the Najib administration is serious in wanting to bolster its credibility with the people of Sarawak and show it is one with them, Najib as the BN leader must ask Taib Mahmud, Alfred Jabu and George Chan to leave. All have chosen themselves to stand for re-election.
George Chan announced he was leaving politics during the last state elections and he didn't. Taib Mahmud has promised to leave, but as soon as the PM and DPM left Sarawak, announced that he will leave on his own time and terms. The people of Sarawak must help him decide then by kicking him out.
Bring in new faces, winnable, clean and uncorrupted. Forget the fallacy of thinking Sarawak can't be governed without people like Taib Mahmud. It's not like Sarawak is going to die if Taib Mahmud is not CM. and I think, its time Sarawak has a dayak as CM.

What a fantastic, razor-sharp, sensitive and powerful post, Datuk!

Thank you for writing straight from your heart!

Greeting Dato Sak, the continuous support for the White Emperor of Sarawak by Umno reminds me of colonialist who tolerated decadent and corrupt chieftains only if their grip for the continuous plunder is sustained and prolonged. The decline of support for BN in Sarawak will have serious implications in the Peninsula.PM Najib can be threatened with a coup DE grace.

Bravo SAK!
You hit it right with Sarawak!

Anonymous,  4 April 2011 at 10:06

The biggest loser in the smut video is of course Rahim and next is Umno's Najib.

Not everyody knows Rahim's sexual escapades that happened nearly 17yrs ago. Those who know has forgotten about it. Now, because of his stupidity, everybody knows that Rahim was once investigated for statutory rape and had accumulated nearly RM40 million from his corrupt activities as Malacca CM. Almost everybody says Umno's Najib is behind the sex video.

As for S'wak CM, the best for this country is to close down the MACC. It is just a political tool working for Umno. By closing it, you save nearly RM100mil of public funds. Just let the Police Inspectors investigate all the corruption cases handled by the Macc. Or let the police sergeants who are now recruited from Diploma holders handle the job.

Anonymous,  4 April 2011 at 10:07

Bravo, Datuk.....well said, and well put....but Pek Moh is so powerful that both the PM and DPM couldn't even get him to leave. He doesn't want any immunity from prosecution - he only wants the pillaging to be carried on by his descendants and cronies.

Sad state of affairs indeed, but I talked to the people in the coffeeshops, and I think they are ready for change.

Dato'
You write and articluate well - for the elite minority and the ones who think they are high and mighty.

The total votes from these folks alone will not make the change.

Do make your messages simple and impactful for the proletariat which is slowly learning to get accustomed to the social media.

Too much of your "Queen's lingo' does not get anywhere to the proletariat which actually shud be the focus for any massive and impactful change.

You are one of the very few BN/Umno men I would vote for if you ever you run for Parliament.

Dear Sakmongkol

“If UMNO continues to support Taib Mahmud's administration, it places itself on the side of the corrupt, the pillagers and the plunderers of the state's wealth. It simply stands on the side of the people's enemy”.

I applaud you for your stand on corruption. The scale of the pillage in Sarawak is well documented and has gone on for a very long time, to the detriment of all of Sarawak’s people, especially the rural poor. Lately, Transparency International has called for an investigation of Taib Mahmud, a bit late but nevertheless welcome.

Yet in all these years the ACA, MACC and the Federal government have done nothing. Did they think nothing untoward has happened? Or do they think that the tremendous cost to and suffering of the people of Sarawak is worth the price of keeping the BN in power? In other words corruption on a massive scale is tolerable if it keeps the federal government in power? This has obviously been the trade off. This has been the quid pro quo between the PMs and Taib Mahmud – you leave me alone to rule Sarawak as I please and I shall deliver the parliamentary seats.

As citizens and as decent human beings, what do we say of this despicable arrangement? How can we close our eyes to such crimes against humanity? Can we say the end justifies the means? What does all this say about this BN government and its moral values? Is it enough that only the Sarawak people reject Taib Mahmud and his state government? Should not all the crooks be arrested and jailed? And should the people of Malaysia support a BN government that condones such malpractices? A judgment must be made of this Sarawak government, and indeed of the BN government as well.

"The blogger donplaypuks says Sakmongkol is read by people who think UMNO should rule 70% of this country and possibly the other 30% too."

I trust my satirical piece deliberately posted on April Fool's Day, will not be taken too seriously.

At the same time, it's true that many West M'sians, especially Dr.M and Perkasa and IA talk as though they have always owned Sarawak and Sabah as of historical right. While they now talk about their inclusiveness as "Bumiputra" I suspect it's more a political ploy for "safe deposit seats" than genuine 1 M'sia feelings.

That arrogant presumption will soon be put to the test.

A very forthright, accurate, incisive and frank article. Well done sir.

I don't care if this writer is an UMNO member but he writes on TRUTH and JUSTICE for the benefit of Sarawakians who have been cheated and deceived for decades.
That what matters.

kee 4 April 2011 at 11:27

I am surprised that AK47 is running out of worthy subjects to write & discourse on. Otherwise why waste so much time & so many words on a video alleging that Anwar is the male lead actor, a video which in reality is a nothing. This is despite AK47 claiming that "This business of writing about the alleged sexcapades of Anwar Ibrahim is tiring."

Before I proceed further, let me first say that like AK47, I too am no supporter of Anwar, not previously, not now but as for the future, the jury is still out.

I am not surprised that Anwar is giving the appearance that he is "unfazed by the allegations", that he appears "insulated and desensitized beyond reach" & "just does not bother about allegations".

Let's be realistic about all these UMNO theatrics. The UMNO-Putras may be quite hopeless & quite useless in conducting normal business & finance, manufacturing or construction, all activities which require discipline & perseverance, but when it comes to smut, they have proved themselves to be quite without equal.

Anwar was once UMNO & he knows how capable his former comrades, amongst whom many were once his proteges, are of coming out with more smut. Therefore he knows that if he gets himself hopping mad & all worked up over this latest smut about him, then he will need to spend the rest of his political life getting all worked up & hopping mad because after this latest smut, UMNO will drum up one more smut. Then he won't have time left for REAL political activities.

AK47 wrote:-

"If the 3 people believed it was Anwar and had wanted to inflict the maximum damage, ....

To me, the question of the 3 people "believing it was Anwar" does not arise at all. It is either they know that it WAS Anwar or they know that it WAS NOT Anwar. Even one with half a brain will not believe that the unholy trio received the video in the mail box, sent by some anonymous people. There can be no doubt that the unholy trio were directly involved in the production of the video. This means that they know the venue & time of the Oscar performance in the video production.

Since they know the venue & time of the Oscar performance in the video production & if they also know that Anwar was the lead male actor, is it even remotely conceivable or possible that they are so stupid as to not organised an actual physical raid into the production studio & catch Anwar red-handed while he was in the midst of his Oscar performance, with his banana being deep fried inside the China doll's frying pan? Isn't such a physical raid better than a video which is subject to accusations of being edited and faked?

No doubt such a physical raid could have included members of the police, Jabatan Agama Islam and the press, both MSM and online.

AK47 wrote:-

The above statement implies that UMNO is not corrupt and does not pillage and plunder the state's wealth.

Is my understanding correct?

Or do I need to go back to English language school?

AK47 wrote:-

This statement implies that Najib and his administration, including Najib himself, are whistle clean and that other than Sarawak, the rest presently in the Najib administration are NOT LIKE Taib Mahmud, Alfred Jabu and George Chan.

Is my understanding correct?

Or do I need to go back to English language school?

Dato, You are setting up your readers who are not pro-BN again. You expect to receive a lot of praise from this group of readers and then you will bash them for praising you when you write an anti-BN article. I'm not going to fall into your trap. What you are writing about Sarawak is what a lot of people inside and outside Sarawak knew for a long, long time and have been praying for Taib and his cronies to be kicked out.

If you really mean what you write ... go personally to SARAWAK and campaign against Taib and his kind. Then we all know it's not hot air you are puffing.

I'm sure many will come forward to chip in for your airfare and accommodation during the campaign.

I received the following emaail a few minutes ago.
-------
According to this comment, the person who helped ring up the various papers to attend the viewing of the sex video at Carcosa is a staff of The Star papers.
CK
--------
Pants on Fire
The caller was Sira Habibu - a mamak woman from Penang - now in Star PJ hq. She is very close to Mukhriz and if you notice, all PKR/DAP bashing story is by her. She is hell bent on helping to destroy the opposition. She is a very pro-Mahahtir writer. She was working in Alor Star for a few years. I am told that she is a frustrated journalist with no scruples. And for star editor Datuk Wong to allow her to use the star for this politically immoral purpose is unforgiveable. Where is your brand of good journalism you had 20 years ago? She is using your newspaper for her own political ends. I was told that she had the story several days before the screening but the star did not want to risk earning the wrath of readers, who are mainly educated readers. So other papers were called up personally by her. Another unprofessional move. Care to deny this Mr Wong? Don't let journalistic sluts destroy your paper. About 20 family members linked to me have cancelled star subscription from Wednesday.

There you go again belittling others.
Don't you dare think the Dayaks are cheap and stupid like you.
It's not for a head of chicken. It's mengenang budi or to repay kindness.
They have got their tanah adat. The longhouse comes with amenities.
I have been there on work-related visits and I know that for a fact.
Sarawakians and Sabahans are the most unracist people in Malaysia unlike racist you in Malaya (their term for us).
If not, the BN cannot claim them as their fixed deposits.
A close friend has Muslims, Christians, atheists all in the family and a polyglot of races living peacefully together in a household.
It's the PKR bloggers and fans like you who provoked Sarawakians to be racists.
Inciting the dayaks, kelabits, Ibans in the hope of ruling Sarawak.
It's so obvious that Keadilan is so greedy for power in Sarawak that they are fighting SNAP for seats.
Why can't they give in to SNAP which is better suited and more attuned to the Dayaks.
Let the Sarawakians decide their destiny without us uppity people who think we know better.
The only party that can win some seats is DAP.
You can't even win orang Malaya, how can you win them?
They are very civil, polite, accomodating people who respect others and offer you the best hospitality.
When you come, they will wait for you at the airport, with walkie-talkie in hand, put you up in the best hotel and feast you.
But when they come here, do we return that hospitality?
Much has been said about Pehin Peh Moh's alleged corrupution. It remains an allegation but nothing proven.
Whatever he's an affable man, very urbane and knows his people and his state.
If you say you like something to him, when you return to the hotel, it will be there.
And have you seen Sarawak's progress for the last 10 years?
Just walk to the waterfront and near Holday Inn and you see the Sarawakians who are better off than you and me.
Taib has to bring the state to victory once again and then hand over to his successor.
Do not discount Idris Jala becoming a Chief Minister or Deputy Chief Minister.
Maybe the mystery of the not announced Bekalalan seat is reserved for him.
That will be a pleasant surprise since that is Jala's hometown.
Taib is a seasoned politician who can always best Anwar any time.

Just received this email about an hour ago :

"The man in the Tape is not Anwar... that much is sure.. but he looks very similar..
- This sex video was actually in Barisan’s potential weapons to be used in 13th General Elections..
- But what made them dust it off in a hurry and use it now... its got to do with Sarawak state elections..
- BN’s internal polling revealed that BN will be losing far too many seats if the state elections due to anger towards Taib Mahmud..
- BN’s internal polling shows that Taib’s party PBB itself is projected to lose about 50% of its seats.. and SUPP will lose all it’s seats etc..
- They figured BN will still win.. but with a much reduced majority... lose is 2/3 majority and even just win by around 55-60% majority
- BN needs to win S’wak big time in order to keep as many Parliament seats in 13th GE..
- So Najib and Muhyiddin both went to see Taib in Sarawak about 2 weeks ago.. never have the PM and deputy PM gone to visit a state together...
- They went to pressure Taib to resign.. and appoint a caretaker Cm before state elections.. hoping with Taib leaving .. people will be less angry and they can still win handsomely
- Taib.. it seems assured them he will consider it seriously.... but.... Taib threw a shocker
- He sent of Najib and Muhyiddin at the airport.. . as soon as the plane took off.. Taib called for a press conference in the airport itself
- He announced that he will dissolve the state assembly next week.. and will remain as CM.. and will retire after the elections after a transition period to enable the new CM to get up to speed..
- Najib and Muhyiddin got the shocking news.. after they landed in KLIA.. Taib just showed them the finger..
- Since the state assembly dissolution is announced.. nothing can be done.. and since Pakatan is getting stronger by the day in S’wak. Something needs to be done..
- They had to dust off Anwar’s purported sex tape and destroy PKR’s credibility hoping that people will be wary of opposition..
- In a hurry.. talk about dumb asses trying to frame people without goofing up...
- The rooms that was used to screen the tape to reporters at Carcosa was booked... of all people.. by Risda.. a federal govt agency...
- Risda’s chairman is Rahim Thamby Chick.. the guy who raped an underaged girl once..
- And the Datuk is also strongly linked to UMNO...
- Then they tried to lure PKR MP’s to jump ship by showing them the video and of course monetary rewards...
- The room in Carcosa was actually booked by Ketua Umno Bhg Bukit Gantang, who is also special officer to Tan Sri Rahim Thamby Chik. Paid for it by credit card and worse of all.. he asked for a corporate discount by using his Risda’s corporate account.. this is going to back fire on them massively... "

Dont get emotional and worry too much about BN losing in Sarawak. That WILL NEVER HAPPEN.NO WAY.
Why? The price of RON 97 went up by 20 cents and the newspaper headline screamed VIDEO TULEN/ASLI!
The RON 95 users dont give a damn about the petrol hike koz its not their problem, the smut video is more important.

Anonymous,  4 April 2011 at 23:54

By one of the commentators named Kee :

"The above statement implies that UMNO is not corrupt and does not pillage and plunder the state's wealth."

Pek Moh is actually not as smart as his 'brothers' in Peninsula by flaunting his wealth so openly.

In Peninsula, these robbers know how to use cronies and third parties; and their wives are reminded time and time again never to flaunt with flashy jewellery on their bodies or go about with top range designer handbags.

We all know that the sons of one ex PM who are aficionados of top model cars (like their father) and because they were warned not to flaunt their ill gotten wealth, one could only catch them indulging in this passion of theirs during the early mornings (usually around 3 a.m on certain mornings) racing their feraris and lombors and lexus on the highways.

Even one of the ex PM's daughter got into the act..... putting on a show about how the inflation is eating into her household budget, lamenting in her weekly write-ups that her old car will require another servicing and the hike in petrol is killing her. However, 20 write-ups later, she slipped up and let on that she will be flying off to her second home in Indonesia for her long-sought breather !

There is no difference in the zeal of these robbers whether East or Peninsula. The only thing that the East robbers should learn and take a leaf from their robber-brothers in Peninsula is to put on a pretend-face and not flaunt their wealth too openly.

It's interesting to surf the pro-Pakatan bloggers following the Anwar sex video posted on U-tube yesterday.
Din Merican, as usual, is in denial mode.
Not a word on it. He's again Mahathir-bashing on an old issue- Ops Lalang.
And you can see the rabid hatred on Tun M which is standard fare among his commentators. He welcomed it gloatingly.
Reading his blog makes you wonder how come there's no pro-Mahathir comments.
My friends who tried to post pro-Najib or UMNO views never get to see their comments published.
Tagline for Din Merican blog is as long as you praise Anwar, you are in.
Anwar for PM, no matter what.
Same goes for Aspan. My comments never see the light of day.
Another Din who also claims he is neutral and a Malaysian with a conscience. Kononya sayang UMNO.
In his latest posting he goes on a khutbah mode, putting the fear of God. My anti-Anwar comments were immediately deleted.
At least Din seems to be a bit pro-Najib since becoming Datuk and a job at MIER.And he is no longer close to Anwar.
Basically we are all supporters ikut perut. Don't pretendlah to be liberal or love the nation.
As for you Sak, continue to be who you are.
Kudos to you for putting up all comments. even from people who bashed you.
You exemplify who UMNO members really are.
Regular commentators in Din's as well as Aspan have a great time here bashing UMNO when pro-UMNO fans cannot get a place there.

Datuk, I truly salute you :) You have managed to describe rather accurately what is wrong with Taib's rule in Sarawak..

it is sad to see RockyBru, who claimed to be a journalist, to blindly "defend" Taib. He kept on harping on those "Western people who should mind their own business rather than telling us how to run the country" and such.. instead of looking at the REAL AND VERY BIG ISSUE OF CORRUPTION the people of Sarawak have to bear..

People like RockyBru, ApaNama and those of their ilk seems to have the mentality of "If you're not with BN, then you're with Pakatan".. is it so hard to see that we Sarawkians do NOT care about the parties; we just want a transparent and accountable state government..

Datuk Sak, if you have the chance, please ask Rocky to read your blog entry; he needs a reminder that Malaysia is made up of people, NOT only BN or PR.

and again Datuk Sak, I wholeheartedly agree with you and have always enjoyed reading your impartial views of the political happenings in Malaysia. Thank you
