In Defense of Rashid Yusof

There was this one particularly interesting comment. It was made by a person using the name of Fatimah Zuhri. We shall assume the person is a lady. It is not uncommon for bloggers to assume a female name. Famous English writers did the same during their careers.

The comment was as follows:-

Fatimah Zuhri said...

Sak,

Forgot to add something to my earlier comment :

1. The 'hit' againts Muhkriz was unnecessary.

2. We need unity. A lot of people have accepted KJ as the KP UMNO although they do not like it.

3. There is no reason for us to continue fighting petty fights like this.

Cheers mate

I will treat this comment as representative of one that seeks rapprochement. There is a genuine wish to end quarrels among us. I fully support it.  But I also believed it must also be a fair call. If we are asked to stop, the asking party must also do the same. It is fair and decent.

This means an end to recrimination and persecution of those who supported KJ. KJ is the ketua Pemuda. Whether one loves or hates this fact, one must live with it. Does the presence of KJ strike terror and fear among people in UMNO? Does it cause that to the extent that one is compelled to decimate all traces of KJ’s influence?

I find it bad sport for supporters of Mukhriz to continue venting out their frustrations to the fact that poor Mukhriz lost, onto KJ’s supporters. Like KJ, he too can be said not to be liked by many more people. That was why he lost in the Pemuda Race. This is simple logic despite everyone knowing that he too is not blameless when it comes to paying delegates. If KJ was alleged to carpet bomb, Mukhriz did a red tide on delegates. By red tide we mean, a gradual accumulation of algae (read fungus) that eventually discolour the water destroying marine life.

But it seems the animosity towards supporters of KJ is not over. It continues to be dished out to those associated with him. Such action gives a new meaning to the term guilty by association. The latest victim is the recently appointed press secretary to the DPM. His name is Encik RashidYusof.

Who is RashidYusof?

Encik Rashid Yusof is an ex journalist. He started with NST as a stringer in one of the northern states. He is a graduate in journalism from ITM. It is now UITM. He has also been a press secretary to Tun Daim Zainudin. TDZ is the closest confidante to Dr Mahathir. Encik Rashid thus has the distinction of being PS to TDZ who was arguably the alter ego of TDM.

But that part of his past is forgotten. It is association with the dreaded KJ that is bandied around as a security threat. Another blogger regards Rashid Yusuf as a Trojan horse sauntering for KJ. It seems KJ’s shadow looms extensively. Maybe it is an apparition that seems to spook everyone.

Some people are gunning out for Rashid. If you work hard enough, you can surely  find people wiling enough to give  anecdotal testimonies that this bloke Rashid is not good. He is not professional. Isn’t there anyone else? We all know these are all remarks arising from envy and professional jealousies. Of course there are 1001 people, but the DPM has chosen Rashid. If irrational envy is the motivation, we could be asking the same about- isn’t there anyone else rather than the PS to the PM who cannot even respond with a decent answer to the accusation once made by the now elusive RPK? The fact is the PM trusted and finds him useful. That is more important than my personal estimation or others’ unsolicited feelings.

At one point, Rashid irked some people at The Star. He had the audacity to say the STAR is championing Chinese Triumphalism. The Joan of Arc at the Star, Jocelyn Tan spearheaded their attacks on Rashid calling him unprofessional and perhaps even a racist bugger. Someone revealed that Miss Tan has sent an SMS to the DPM questioning whether the appointment of Rashid was appropriate. When does J Tan arrogate upon herself the role of a one person congressional hearing committee, cross examining appointments made by top leadership of this country?

The facts are: the DPM likes and feels he can trust Rashid to do a good job. That’s more important than rumblings about RY being a Trojan horse, security threat (to who?) or unprofessional. It would be stupid of me on the other hand not to exploit the talents of someone who is credited in making KJ victorious. It would also be stupid of me to appoint a dumkoff!

Dont worry Rashid Yusof. You will be back. Let Joceline have her day in the sun. When it is her turn to be mauled, I pray they will do so mercilessly.

Do we know whether Rashid Yusof was a victim of Jocelyn Tan or of association with KJ?

Who is Jocelyn Tan anyway? Is Rashid's predicament the result of her SMS? If so, DSN must be such a weakling. I'm not inclined to think so. It must be a number of factors at play. We hardly make important decisions based on just one single reason.

I'm afraid the KJ issue will linger on. Unless you can persuade him to start a relentless campaign on uniting UMNO Youth, bring the Mat Rempits and errant youngsters in line, show remorse irrespective of the rights or wrongs of UMNO DB, shout out against money politics and corruption, and build himself a new image.

I honestly think he can get a new image and be accepted by most people if he does those. And he will be spoken of in positive terms then.

AK,
Why always glorify those umno puks. All the same shit from the same mould of fifty years!THE TRUTH is you cannot find any gems lah! Most of the umno guys be it ministers or others come with heavy baggages right from PM to the rest!
Sorry no matter how you put it in your eloquent ingglish! they are all TAINTED to the core.Dettol would'nt do any good to whitewash them!
Only in this bolehland we find a nestpool of corruptors running this country. This perception has been there since TDM days with the agreement of MCA and MIC goons.
Will umno change??? Forget it!

Anonymous,  25 April 2009 at 14:11

is it nestpool or cesspool?

I am yet to find a poor Senior politician?

all of them seem to be in a different league from us...they got big bungalows chockablock with fancy cars in the driveway, they have vacations abroad, their kids are in private schools overseas..

I like to think that they got rich cos they're smart :so they must have invested well and have sound cash generating businesses i.e. made their dough cos they're smart.

So,wats wrong with having smart people running the country?

Sak,

i too heard about the sms by JTan. Kalau DPM is affected by this & subsequent attempts by few bloggers who hardly know rashid i don't know what else i can say about this. u find out about someone from people who know him best/closest, not from idiotic strangers. u know what it's like today -- anyone can say anything about someone on the Net. takkan DPM boleh terpengaruh sampai begitu sekali? on the other hand he should have ticked off tan.

btw, i have known rashid since 1986 and have written about him at my blog. i think i know him better than most.....

Idzan Ismail,  25 April 2009 at 17:17

This is interesting
You are for KJ. Big Dog is for Mukhriz.
What is Pariah to Big Dog, is Brahmin to you.
The victim: Rashid Yusof.
We have Najib's 1Malaysia concept which embraces everyone.
And isn't KJ and Mukhriz Malaysians and Umno members.
Politik cantas-mencantas does not sit well with Najib especially in times like these.
To me, both Mukriz and Khairy can value add to the party.
We have sons of ex-premieres and son-law of an ex PM.
On the other side of the politcal divide, we have the dynasties of Anwars, Lims and Karpals.
So the more the merrier, the better.
Why must there still be an albatross around the neck of KJ with Pa-in-law out of the picture?
Must we cntinue penalising him and the people who are close to him?Rashid is a professional journalist who is a salaried person who knows who's boss and will serve him well.
In the end, we are all cari makan people who have to work to put food on the table.
No one has the right to dictate where or for whom anyone can work.

this is an extract of a report by an independent journalist which shows that the Election Commission is just PRO BN! If you support this report, please cut and paste on every group in Facebook. Thank you.

"The same views have been echoed by no less than the Election Commission (EC). Plus, the EC has openly supported proposals by some BN leaders such as Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir and Tan Keng Liang to prevent "unnecessary" elections. These include suggestions for stricter laws, and penalties for elected reps or their parties should an elected representative resign for reasons other than what's stated in Article 48(1) of the Federal Constitution."

Harisudin anak BABA.,  25 April 2009 at 17:54

I think I know him the best,
Well because I'm his only son.

I don't know much about politics.
But I know enough that he is being
honest with his job.
He fights only for the right thing cause.
He is in nobody side.
He has always been an honorable man.
He has many friends, they also respect him.

I feel sorry for DPM for being
so easily influence by a heartless
blogger.

To Jtan,
What have my beloved father done
to you that you are
so recklessly attacking him.
How can you at sleep night I wonder.
Or maybe you don't sleep at night
and have nothing else to do at night, and to attack my father.
(I wonder if you have any children
or family at home?)
Is this how grown-up deal with their problem.
Yay, what an example to show
the youngs.

To BABA tersayang,
Don't worry Ba this will all past away.I and umi are praying for you everyday.

Anonymous,  25 April 2009 at 20:10

To Harisudin anak Baba.
I am so proud you spoke out for your Baba..my tears were welling when I read your touching comments.
J.Tan thinks because she's Datin Seri Rosmah's very good friend, she can say anything she likes and even behave like she can make or break a person!
Memang betina busuk hati.Shes a bitch!
You jangan sedih sangat alright? Always be strong and continue your ferocious love for your parents!

hard-T 25 April 2009 at 21:06

To Harisudin anak BABA
I'm among your father best friends. Even sebelum you lahir lagi. Macam mana kawan baiknya uncle dan your Baba, sehingga uncle boleh cerita bagaimana your Baba mengorat dan bercinta dengan your Umi dulu. Your Umi pun kenal uncle. Dont worry, coz your Baba ada ramai kawan baik.

Joceline is a major kiss ass and lack any professionalism in her writing. It is so obvious that certain politicians have her in her pockets. She would be one of the causes of the fall of BN. Thank God. The Star should just sack her. Her candidate, Mukhriz lost because of her writing.

As for this character Rashid Yusof, as a father and a bread winner, I will join your son's prayers for your well being. Don't worry people like Joceline will die in her grave alone.

bro brotherhood, 28 April 2009 at 02:44

Apapa yang berlaku adalah dengan kehendak Allah snw. Tentu ada hikmah disebaliknya. Harisuddin n family should accept this. It is not the end of the world.

Tapi sbg seorang yang kenal Rashid since 1970's, he is a man of honest, credible, wise and full of brilliant political ideas. It is a waste if he is being ignored and sidelined from the mainstream.
