Waiting for Anwar 'GODOT' Ibrahim

Anwar Ibrahim does his magic trick again. He says taking over the government is no longer his priority. Yes, of course we know what is the reason behind this.

He could have done what he promises all and sundry had it been Pak Lah who is still the PM. The PM is leaving in March and with the planned leave he’s taking, that means, he will be out effectively in January. In March when UMNO convenes, that will just be the formalised last rites for Pak Lah.

But Anwar of course is eclectic when it comes to religion. This time, he chooses to be a Shiite, who don’t believe in last rites or the talqin. Therefore he will not partake in doing the last rites for Pak Lah.

He in fact wants Pak Lah to stay on so that he has all the reason to harangue the weak and inept leadership. His plan lives as long as Pak Lah is there. With Pak Lah’s exit, his grand design dies in an unmarked grave.

Because with the advent of Najib, however maligned this chap is, Anwar knows he has a formidable adversary.

We can already see the initial repercussions of Pak Lah’s decision to go. Those forces within UMNO are already aligning themselves behind Najib. Najib will get a more united UMNO and more determined.

In the end, Anwar’s promises is reduced to a tragicomedy, similar to Samuel Beckett’s play, Waiting For Godot. Substitute Godot for Anwar’s power grab.

Waiting for Godot is a play by Samuel Beckett, in which two characters wait for someone named Godot, who never arrives. Waiting for Godot is Beckett's translation of his own original French version, En attendant Godot.

Sakmongkol has made several adaptations.

Instead of people waiting for 2 consecutive days as in the original play, the rakyat and the PKR faithfuls and the converted( including the bourgeois class inhabiting areas in PJ/Damansara, Bangsar,haha- the champagne socialists, the smoked salmon socialists, the cafe-latte drinkers- these have to wait for an indeterminate period. Who are they waiting for?

They all wait for a man named Anwar Godot Ibrahim. While waiting for Godot Ibrahim, they amuse and play with themselves They claim him an acquaintance but in fact hardly know him, admitting that they would not recognise him were they to see him. So far they know of him as a person wronged because of trumped up homosexual charges in the 1990’s and now is the subject of another homosexual charge. Yes, the government is bloody thick, when it comes to find something to do Anwar Godot Ibrahim in.

To occupy themselves, they eat, sleep, talk, argue, sing, play games, exercise, swap hats, and contemplate political suicide — anything "to hold the terrible silence at bay". In addition they also do candle light vigils, participate in partisan forums and so forth. They delude themselves that they are doing something believing out of all that futilities , something will come up.

Without these noises, the dreadful silence will engulf them. "Silence," says Beckett, "is pouring into this play like water into a sinking ship", arguably both true and ironic, given the play's wordy banter and patter.

That’s what waiting for Anwar “Godot” Ibrahim is doing to them. Meanwhile, RPK waits for his own Godot.

hi ak47 - i agree with u in regards to the waiting. wait wait wait. when will it ever happen or will it ever happens - is anyone guess.

but that is only one part of the overall picture.

the people is not only waiting for dsai but the people is wailing for change.

a change from clandestine operations to transparency, a change from corrupted regime to the accountable one.

change cant be done with the determination of only one man. it can only come about if the thousands and millions concerned citizens start to contribute a little each.

so i disagree with your rather rude / disrespectful view of the people participating in the candle light vigil and other civil societies activities...

maybe u dont mean it but when you say - "They delude themselves that they are doing something believing out of all that futilities , something will come up. ..

you are actually spitting in the face of the good people who want to do their little part to contribute to the change for a better tomorrow.

not everyone who go to a candle light vigil is on the same platform with DSAI - some are there becos they want to see justice, some becos of strong personal conviction in freedom of expression and so forth.

in your haste to shoot down DSAI please do not take the rest of the civil society down as collateral damage.

that is most unfair and uncalled for.

i could not agree more with sakmongkol. U know anwar’s reputation especially in 1997 when organizing street demonstration. All participants must have known in advance the fatality that might come about. Please choose other social events that lead to peace and harmony and not violence.

Touche!

You're one bad, bad man, mr sakmongkol. Haha.

Have a good weekend. Me and buddies we're heading to the east coast for a bit of diving and makan.

"champagne socialists, the smoked salmon socialists, the cafe-latte drinkers-"

HA HA HA HAHA HA HA HA HA HA.
I doubt it. Most of those ppl will prob stick with Barisan but prob want greater balance of power. But that's just my guess. ;)They are too busy making money and striving to one-up their "pals" with that new sports car, luxury overseas apartment or toy.

I feel sorry for the sincere "pahlawans" in Keadilan who truly believed Anwar, fought for him since 98, and realise they have been taken for a ride.

I agree that the Anwar that most ppl know was the one who was allegedly wronged by Dr M. Even then it was a passing thought after I returned to the UK. I was concerned with the riots but some bizmen were glad that he went.

3 cheers for "agnos" - you got it right!

nice one, sak!

makes me nostalgic for schooldays...

je me souviens que dans l'histoire de beckett, quand godot n'est jamais venu, un jeune garçon apparaît pour dire que cet homme viendra demain.

ainsi, un question pour toi...

who do you think would be that "jeune garçon" in our own waiting that is being played out right now?

kj? [nah, probably not angelic enough, unless we think of malaikat maut. :D]

***

on another note, i think people who wait for change, or for others to bring the change to them, are literally waiting for god... i mean, godot.

because...

no matter what changes or where you go
if you're your own worst enemy
like an bleeping shadow
your self won't let you be!

How about "Waiting for Sak 'Godot' Mongkol" kah!kah!kah!kah!

Singh Is Kinng 24 October 2008 at 18:01

Mr Sak,

It could be a decoy, to make UMNO people deviate from Anwar's threat, because UMNO people are now focusing on power struggle.

Anwar at the same time is gathering strength and ammunition. When the time comes, the primary weapon is unleashed, and of course the target is Najib.

thank you all for visiting:-
i want to answer agnos if i may...
you takde baca betul apa saya cakap ke, i mentioned those who went on candle light vigils in relation to waiting for the malaysian godot. on other occasions unrelated to godot, you are free to light all the humongous candles you want and its no skin off sakmongkol's nose or as one commentator says- sak-godot-mongkol. haha, no problem.
but i also note many people suffer from this illusion that only anwar ibrahim represents change- he doesnt represent anything other than his lust for power.
just look at the antics of some jerks making a report on Najib to BPR- the letter from the buffoon captain zahar has been exposed as fraudulent yet its still used as a basis to make a report. this shows that the anwaristas only want to believe what they want to believe.
so, dont wait for anwar, he is nothing but the great manipulator.

sigh ...

when people are bought over by theatrics rather than rational thinking

as in the appeal of the bubbling champagne versus the plain drinking water

anyone noticed the different styles of rhetoric that he uses, depending on the temperature of the takeover bid?

fire, hot, warm, lukewarm, cool, cold, ice???

A Tabib 24 October 2008 at 20:28

Bullseye AK.

Anwar now claims that he wants to put his ambition to become PM on hold because he wants to right the economy.

How, pray?. By formulating national economic policy from the Opposition bench? By running to the IMF? By running down the country when he's overseas?. Or by consulting his friend the ex-World Bank chief Paul Wolfowitz perhaps?.

He's a darling of the western media but I love the way he was made to squirm in his chair by the BBC. Ask good questions of him and the real Anwar will be unveiled - stuttering and back-pedalling and thouroughly unconvincing in his arguments.

PS. A well-known economist who supported Dr M's "noddynomics" has just won the Nobel prize.

Mekyam sampai hati you panggil dia Malaikat maut ;-)

You are so right, sakmongkol. I believe most of the people who had high hopes for 916 and other subsequent dates to materialize were disappointed. But then these people still harbour hopes that DSAI will keep his so called promise. Everyone, including myself, and especially RPK, was taken for a ride. While he is sleeping in his comfortable bed and can move around unfettered, does he spare a thought for poor RPK who risked everything for him and the country? Now, I don't even bother to read what DSAI says - it's all bullshit.

Bonjour Mekyam.

En visitant ce site, je tombe par hasard sur votre commentaire que je trouve mignon.
