Same people, different zeitgeist-part 1.

dear dato,i read your blog most days.i find it interesting and factual.

i am chinese,57 years, retired, educated and have financial freedom.
i was educated in english college, johor bahru.i was in the top class and had many malay classmates,in fact slightly less than half the class. They were good and hard working students.of these, half made it to universities, both local, most foreign.those days mostly to uk.most were on scholarship and very deserving too.

one of them was on mara scholarship.on returning to malaysia he made a beeline to mara,to check on repayment terms.can you believe it,they lost the file!my friend then made his own calculation and paid back ALL.

that was some 35 odd years ago.today my malay friends are all enjoying a good life and some even retired.we are still very close.
another classmate invited our chinese form-teacher to his daughter's wedding in kl.he paid for the hotel accommodation at sheraton.

it was a good system then.today it is totally different now.i will not bring issues that are all to wellknown to everyone.

now,how do we move forward?
i think you do have most answers.i wish you well and sincerely hope that ALL malaysians read your blog.i think you have the power to change.good luck.

yours sincerely,
chen siung sik.johor bahru.

The e mail sent to me by a Mr. Chen from JB sounds melancholic. What has happened to the present generation that has made many of the things by which Mr. Chen and many of us grew up with, appear diminishing? A sense of personal noblesse oblige, imposed on us by welcomed pressures- from the family, society and state, were treated as powerful motivational elements. The man who came back to pay up his student loan did that as a matter of personal honour. That can come only from the values honed at home and further reinforced by the enabling environment. Many people like Mr. Chen were eager to take up the challenge to cultivate themselves to serve a united Malaysia.
What was it that made the earlier generation behaved in the way described by this Chinese gentleman? Students of all races working hard to redeem themselves. Aware that good education was the great leveler. Racial differences didn't stand in the way to foster a sense of camaraderie. In short, what made them into different material?
In saying that, we are admitting that maybe things have now changed in less desirable ways than that which we would have liked. Racial strife is clearly on the rise. Almost everything now is talked in terms of racial equation. Malays getting more at the expense of other Malaysians. Non Malay Malaysians dismissing or trivializing the need to restructure  society in the name of a level playing field, also talked  of in racial undertones. Education does not seem to have turned students into useful and productive adults, if we measure it by the number of graduates who are unemployed. Measure it too by the amount of re training that we have to give to passing graduates.
Perhaps it was the zeitgeist of the 1960's and the 1970's. The definition of the term as we googled it:-
Zeitgeist is the general cultural, intellectual, ethical, spiritual, and/or political climate within a nation or even specific groups, along with the general ambience, morals, socio-cultural direction or mood of an era.

In modern times, I would put it as the enabling environment- the general ambiance of the times. It is a product of the enabler- the ruling government and the leadership of this country.
The people are the same still. Parents still value education. They are also aware of education being the great leveler. The children of a hawker, a farmer or an estate worker have the same opportunities to advance through education.
What has changed is perhaps the priorities politicians set out. I think the one element that people didn't think was important( I may not be correct) but one which I would argue, was the absence of the language and cultural imperatives. Malay and English evolved as the natural unifying language. English was the working language and Bahasa Melayu was accepted as naturally predominant language. But once language was politicised, it triggered off irrational defences and at times chauvinistic reactions. The government should have left in that way- allowing Malay and English to reach its natural preeminent levels.
Probably many people may have noticed this. The increasing popularity of English medium schools resulted in the natural decline of Chinese and Tamil vernacular schools. The decline wasn't forced in the sense that they were to make way for Malay medium schools. Practical considerations and economic realities made English medium schools the preferred schools for Chinese and Indians. If the government had left it at that, Malay medium schools were to continue along their natural course and English medium schools were the alternatives to vernacular schools, things may have been different. English educated people would still have to come to terms with the predominant lingua franca and would have to make adjustments accordingly. It would have the unintended effect of diminishing the importance of vernacular schools in less painful ways, rather than being seen as victims of language and by extension, cultural hegemony by Malays.

What you say is true.

But its too late, I'm afraid.

Anonymous,  21 August 2010 at 13:05

Perhaps it will fitting for you to comment on the racist remarks by school principles and the unMalay, unIslamic and uncivil reports in Utusan Malaysia.
The terms "pendatang", "balik Cina", "balik India' did not drop from the sky. They were nurtured by UMNO.

When one race projects the superiority image, they tend to look down on the other races.

Now, why has the Home Minister not taken action against Utusan? Oh! Malay Superiority?

Dato',

I had the same conversation with my mechanic who happened to be Indian the other day and we had know each more than 15 years. Race was never an issue when we were growing up. He totally agree that is ridiculous to be living in Malaysia and calling yourself Malaysian. if you cant speak the national language. We had no problem switching back and forth between Malay and English language as we grew with english as the language of business and learning.

The Malays who did get scholarship during our time are those who deserves it and had proven themselves capable and had contributed to nation building. I have seen evidence that Malays today who get scholarship are not even capable of thinking much less analysis as they are just parrots reciting from text books that is if they can remember what they read...otherwise throw them on the streets, I doubt they can even make a RM10 sales. No wonder the non Malays are upset.

What happened? Education as an enabler and leveller has been depreciated as it is now a business and political machine.... Until we grow up and transcend beyond our race, I doubt we would be able to achieve the Utopian ideals that our forefathers of Merdeka has envisioned because we have yet to educate our younger generation know the meaning of personal sovereignty.

Salam Merdeka...

Dato' Sak,
I can't agree with you more on this score that the English School where English was the medium of instruction bound us together. Abolishing the English school was the beginning of the breakup of racial integration among the people. The decision maker of the time did not see far enough to see the need of English as a language of learning and knowledge.
In those days the leaders were never deemed to be corrupt as they lead a very frugal life compared to the present leaders. The people want to emulate their leaders. Nowadays most of the leaders are perceived to be corrupted to the core by the virtue of the wealth they own and life that they lead which is far beyond their mean. So if the leaders are perceived to be corrupt and plundered the wealth of the nation, how do you expect the people to behave?

Dato the answer is staring at our face. There must be only 1 stream school here in Malaysia. Only then we can say 'race has never been an issue'.
Only then we can have people accepting one another as Malaysians.

When Red FM radio DJ jamaludin, the son of communist Shamsiah Fakeh told his chinese listeners not to follow lazy malays and their bad habits and also not to fly the malaysian flag during Merdeka day, u will definitely say it is his freedom of speech right. Correct?

Hahhahahaha u r an idiotlah anon. One eye blind is it?

We r all creature of the time!

So, for those born in the 50 & 60, English education was the mean to achieve an end – a better living than the one experienced by the toiling parent. We all saw what our parent had to endue to earn a stomach-filling wages, day in & day out.

So English was the enabler then. At least majority of the Others M’sian saw that.

What about the Malay M’sian?

Fast forward to present day, English has become only one of the enabler for better lives. The emergence of the China/India in the current era will enhance the importance of their lingua franca.

Even though the position of English in commerce will not be threaten, but to denial the importance of these two languages only indicate the shallowness of the ‘thinker’s’ thought!

M’sia has a beach-head advantage on either of these two languages due to the Others M’sian’s historical roots.

What has the govt of the day do about that?

Instead of utilizing these advantages to the fullness, every step of the way is/was man-made deterrence to try to extinguish their continue contribution to the well-being of the nation. Only a very short-sighted policy-maker is capable of that & all the M ED since independence had had their dirty hands in its ‘planned’ destruction.

M’sian with Mandarin background has an upperhand advantages, even when their academic qualification is only so so in dealing with the Mainland Chinese.

Just do a survey about how many Chinapeks have already building up their business with the Chinese through unofficial channels. & this underground economy has already generating huge amount of profit for both parties. Do anyone notice that in these underground economy, the Chinese S’poreans r lacking far behind the M’sian counterpart?

The saddest part is that the M’sian govt plays no role at all. At least the S’pore govt has been trying all out to capture a slice of the business.

I know – because I have seen it with my own eye since I moved the operation to China.

'It would have the unintended effect of diminishing the importance of vernacular schools in less painful ways, rather than being seen as victims of language and by extension, cultural hegemony by Malays.'

UMNO wanted to maintain the racial divide which was the basis of its power in Malaysia. UMNO put a knife into the English schools and left them to die. No matter how you spin it Dato it was UMNO who destroyed MALAYSIAN education and turned the SMKs (non-hostel) into nothing more thrash bins to dump the weak Malay students with a pseudo Muslim school streak and a 100% bias towards the Malays. It was with malicious intent that UMNO destroyed the English schools for UMNO only knows Malay hegemony and nothing else. Meanwhile the UMNOputras send their kids to international schools and foreign universities. The cream of the Malay students are also sent to be educated in English language universities. At the same time, the non-Malays are spat on and cursed by UMNO for refusing to kow tow to UMNO's Malay hegemony. What a bunch of hypocrites you UMNO fellows.

I think basically if we are to look further now, is it a blessing or not that vernacular schools have flourished?

Let us look at it objectively not racially. Is it good?

In fact, it can be the best thing that happen to us Chinese. Why?

In Chinese schools you learn English, Malay and Chinese Mandarin.

In Tamil schools you learn English, Malay and Tamil.

Now the two major emerging countries that would have great influence economically in the near future are India and China.

China is already the second largest economy in the world and on tract to even exceed mighty USA(which is going bankcrupt).

The two languages that would be of paramoount importance now and the future in the near future would be English and Mandarin.

Now in Malay schools what do you have? Malay and English ..that's it. Where can you go?

In fact Chinese from Malaysia is now very much demanded even in Singapore over Singaporeans as they are doing global trading.

Their importance will grow as China becomes even more dominant the world over. Moreover if you are to study the entire South East Asia, the Chinese are dominant in trade. So those who go to Chinese schools, if they are to go overseas, they are golden opportunities to excel. They can mix easy and get good business deals easily.

Perhaps this can be the main reasons why there are so many Malaysians of Chinese origin working overseas today. Chinese are mobile and this is good because they can then improve themselves in the best environment rather than guarrelling everyday over this rights or that rights.

If we had been to English Medium as I was, I would be very handicapped when speaking Mandarin .. yes, I was sort of handicapped when I went to China for business. Regretted very much to have sent my children to National schools ... now all cannot read or write Chinese.. very shameful and I cannot get expand my business as easily as I would have wished.

Malaysians under our current political situations of each wanting more , and everyday quarrelling more everyday while doing nothing, should start to view our world or country as a global country.

Use Malaysia as a base, using our linguitic advantages plus our business acumen to do global businesses. This way no Ibrahim Alis can tell us to give to them anything. They can have it all in this country if they work for it. There would be less competitiion from non Malays if more go global.

Can we imagine if all the highly qualified and by now rich Chinese are to return to Malaysia? How are the locals be it Chinese, Malays or Indians going to compete or survive? Ibrahim Alis would have revolted even more.

So my take is this. Our country is very unique. There is just no solution to this NEP or NEM things. The reality is that those who work hard and with capital are going to outdo those without these attributes. So in future it would be worse because the Malays in general have less of the advantages to do business compared to Chinese.

The ONlY solution for Malaysia is to stop quarrelling over nothing (of no economic value but destructive) is to go global. It is good for this country otherwise the locals non Malays with capital, expertise, and work attitudes advantages are going to make the NEP last forever and ever if not worse.

Btw, asking private companies to give away part of the their companies to others be it Malays, Chinese or Indians for the sake of NEP would be a false start and will never happen.

Will you do it? Try go to a businesman downtown today and tell the boss in the interest of NEP, give me a share in your company or employ me (when I do not have to required expertise). That towkay will kick me out of his office.

This is unlike a government office where their are supposed to employ the most qualified irrespective of race because it is paid by the public not private.

All the grumblings we hear nowadays are really stupid and going nowhere except chaos.... for nothing.

schenker78 21 August 2010 at 18:29

not umno of tunku abdul rahman, but mahathir's umno successfully created new racist citizens of all mainly malays, chinese, indians....most hapily sit with their own kind in schools and campus and suspicious against 'Others'

Mahathir is the super racist...in umno, these tendencies are actually shown by half malays, not the 'pure' malays...

half malays ppl like mahathir and bukit bendera Ahmad Ismail gay boy(take a good look at his face and walking style and how he moves his hips)....Mahathir's BTN successfully brainwash malays since the 80s to hate non malays.

Why are we different today? Blame it on the government. They not only high-jacked our money but also our lives. I'm also in the same generation of the writer and I still have close friends from the other races whom we grew up together. It's sad that young people nowadays are racially segregated. For the non-bumis, don't blame them because we have a government which favors one race and ignore the rest. How do you think the rest feel? They allso have to work their butt out. They see their parents working round the clock just to feed and educate them while the favoured race have it on a silver platter and still demanding for more. Did they ever question where the money came from? My sympathy is for the poor Malays without connection who still try to make it on their own. As for the non-bumi, we can only sigh and continue to make scarify for our children.

Quiet Despair,  21 August 2010 at 21:52

The gentleman's letter tugs at my heart-strings. My message to him is all is not lost yet.
It's only in the cyberworld that we all appear to be racist.
Outside we are as together as ever. In my neighborhood we are all close and do organise parties and exchange food during festive seasons. When there's sickness or death, everyone come to visit.
At shopping complexes and holiday resorts, we still share the fun.
I just had buka puasa with my former classmates and ex-colleagues whom i have lost touch for a long time.
I think in the cyrberworld, we take a different stance and real gung-ho under the guise of monikers and anons.
And we are just reacting to the postings of the bloghost.
I cant help bringing Zorro's blog. Most times his writings inflamed the Malays.
For me, I feel like it's my duty to fight back when someone attacked my race.
Outside we are not like that, because racial differences or politics were taken with a grain of salt.
I think its safe for us all to blame our politicians for making us divided.
But we can't go back to the good old, lackadisical times of yesterday due to work pressures and the fast-paced lives.
We dont even have time for family, let alone others.
I do envy my dad and my late grand-dad's close camarederie with their non-Malay friends.
When they die, their non-Malay friends do contribute cash and kind and even go to the burial-site.
We did the same for their friends when they die.
P>S. The letter-writer was a top student. And he did commend his Malay friends whom he said are smart too and got schiolarships.
Notice the difference? He was not envious. Nor was he bitter.
It's not like that now.
And that guy who repaid his Mara loan. If it happens now, the boys will just keep quiet.
they wont even bother to go and check with MARA.
Even asked to pay back, they wont.
They dont make people like that anymore.

schenker78 21 August 2010 at 22:16

Quiet D said,

"P>S. The letter-writer was a top student. And he did commend his Malay friends whom he said are smart too and got schiolarships.

they wont even bother to go and check with MARA.

he said malays smart etc...that was during his generation....they dont make those malays anymore.....today malays are pampered and lazy, except malay girl students....from what i seen before in local U and still today, malay girl graduates are more hardworking and study properly...malay guys just go U to cari awek....only very minority of malay guys really study...

And it is true, in University campuses, all races sit and mingle with their own races...and the Kelantanese usually mix with their own kind too...only very minority of all races have semangat muhibbah......that includes me....i mix with all...

why no pay back MARA?? because all are pampered....since the Umno's behaving badly, so does its offspring.....Kalau kepala dah tak betul, yang lain2 ikut sekali laaa.....

HAKIMAN,  21 August 2010 at 23:59

Dato Sak, you said, "Racial strife is clearly on the rise. Almost everything now is talked in terms of racial equation.....What was it that made the earlier generation behaved in the way described by this Chinese gentleman? ... Racial differences didn't stand in the way to foster a sense of camaraderie. I "

You have reconfirmed my point in my earlier comments in other threads on your blog.

Today, Malaysians cannot talk about the country and about themselves without bringing in race.

In fact, sad to say, your blog made too much emphasis on race when discussing on national issues. What it does it brings to the front burner all things Malaysians have to do with race.

That is exactly what politicians in race-based parties want to be that way, keep race in the front pages of the media and blogs ALL the time, and blogs like yours sort of got suck into the same whirlpool created by these reckless politicians.

So, really, why should we all complain about the present generation of being racial or racist, because WE are the ones who feed them the racial diet.

People like Shamsul Anuar and Quiet Despair are willing vehicles to give spread the race diets to the wider community, because it serves their political masters in the race-based parties.

Who should we blame? The buck stops at the Govt... the UMNO-led Govt since they ruled this country since Merdeka.

You cannot blame others but the politicians in the race based parties who were given the instruments of power were supposed to lead and to unite the country, but they didn't.

This Govt shuts down race issues by enforcing silence while it allows the govt bureaucracy to pursue race-based policies.

Look at the attitude of the school principals who made racist remarks at the non malays as reported in the media. What can of message do you send to the young by these so called role model teachers and leaders .

Don't blame the people. I blame the Govt and the civil service for the state of the nation today.

Warga Malaysia,  22 August 2010 at 00:07

Sakmongkol, read Pak Sako's take on your comment that "Umno stands for moderation": Two elite groups: The wealthy, the religious collude to dominate Malaysia – Pak Sako where the wealthy is more correctly referred to as "wealthy and aristocrat (power) which includes ruling members of your party UMNO. Looks very well reasoned out.

Anonymous,  22 August 2010 at 00:19

Hey Mr Chin, don’t you notice the entire bunches of politicians that engage in racial politicking are mostly from your generations? Your recollection warmhearted past is merely your illusion, in fact your English school is a total failure that could only produce racist that put in their best time, effort and knowledge to draft out the many racial policy and rule that ultimately establish a racist regime that administer and manage the nation with racism leadership.

These same people, who want to enforce conformity and homogenization, are so afraid of the slightest difference in other people, which include culture, language, thought process and achievement. They try to make everyone submit to their orthodoxy and fancy, but secretly were actually kind of covetous, that preoccupied with shallowest narcissistic.

In short, the English schools that were adored by these people are the worst kind of school that produce intellectual crap that could only contribute mischief to our society.

And now these people have that thick face to put the blame on vernacular school?

Tuan AK 47,

Dato',

It does not matter whether English or Bahasa Malaysia/Melayu is used as the medium of instruction in the schools. What is more important and essential is what is being taught in the schools. Growing up and attending schools in the 50's, 60's and early 70's, I stand to say that we were taught correctly on respecting each other in our multi racial society, how to live in harmony, etc. In short, we were taught to be race blind and religion blind.

But since the late 70's thereon and with Dr. Mahathir being the Edu. Minister then and with the establishment of the BTN, the students in the schools were brainwashed into seeing everything in race, religion and ketuanan.

We should stop harping on the medium of instruction in the schools and instead go back to basics and examine what is being indoctrinated into minds of the younger generation in the schools. You know the answers yourself and being in UMNO, perhaps you can point the answers out to your UMNO Education Minister.

I read with interest the part about drugs in drinking water.
The story was picked by Chicago tribune last year saying that Chi-Town's water are loaded with hormones.
I posted a comment then saying that I prefer to look on its positive side.
Maybe my son who is studying in Chicago will be taller when I meet him next.
Many of the commentators replied: I must watch out. He will grow a breast too.
True enough, he's back for the summer hoildays taller but sporting a breast, when he was flat before!

Hakiman

You dont have to drag my name to accuse me of what I am NOT. I know myself better.
Please stop hiding behind that Hakiman name (doubfful you are Malay) to show that you are oh so all races lover.
You are nothing but a rabid Mr Aljay's worshipper.
I have been analysisng when did we become so racist.
I got a simple answer.
When Anwar was sacked by Tun M.
He could have lashed out on Mahathir alone.
But he went on a red fury, instigating the Malays to hate UMNO and the Malays.
He brought his war to innocent others and ravaged the other races to hate the Malays and all the Malay institutions like our rulers, our judiciary, police, etc, etc.
And in his nasal twang, forever preaching rakan saya di estet, di kampung baru Cina. Pleasing them but nothing to offer what can he do to help them.
As a result, not only Malays are divided but the Chinese and Indians too.
Did we see racism when DAP and PAS have been in existence for a long, long time when Anwar was in diapers?
So I like to think of Anwar as the Malaysian Thor - the destroyer of race and our beloved nation.
And the irony he still wants to rule a nation damaged by him.
We have a duty to destroy him before he destroy others.

Hi all

I think we should stop those stupid racist rants going on these times.

Just do what we have been doing and try to be productive rather than MCA questioning this or that which in the end gets everyone angry especially Ibrahim Alis.

No need to talk. Just let it be. Let the rot continue. We know what it is like. Let it be and let the world passes us by. At the moment mostly Chinese with a good number of other races are acting with their feet... to find where there are good paying jobs and better working environments.

Well if we are the supplier of top talents to the world around us, we should be proud too. They earn good money and send back to their parents and grandparents who spend good money in the country in comfort. If they had remained, they would find even difficult to support themselves .. paying for cars, house etc all inflated prices with NEP kind of prices for them.

What the heck, Phillipines is currently surviving from these foreign money although their exports are their daughters' labour. The only difference now is, we export top talents and very valuable too.

Everyone still make a living. The only problem is the UMNO government cannot get so much taxes from these people. That is the price to pay for peace and harmony. At least these highly qualified people can make way for lower quality/qualified local people be it Chinese Malays or Indians for the scant jobs when FDIs hit bottoms.

Who says "going back" to China to find opportunities is not good idea? Over there if one Chinese pay you 10Cts per year , you are 130 millionnaire lah per year (idealistics of course) No NEP too. YOu make what you work for.

So dont despair. Do what we have been doing .. with our feet and votes. Stop quarreling with guys who would not listen but would threaten anyway. No point getting into trouble trying to help these guys.

Yes, I notice that a lot of bloggers are posting for change to help the "poor Malays " and you seldom hear these same bloggers say to help "poor Chinese or Indians" except for all poor Malaysians.

We have done what need to be done. we are better off and we move on. Let it be if no one listens.

As for me, I am actively looking and using the Internet to look for overseas distributors for my products...etc. This local squabblings are really a waste of time.

To all local Chinese and Indians. Stop being like "kataks di bawah tempurung." there is a whole world outside there in India and China not to say other countries.

We only need to organise ourselves to survive in this "coming soon " global disaster. Malaysia is such a small market if you do not already know and difficult (and often time frustrating).

I for one will NEVER do any business in Malaysia that requires a licence. We all know why.

Cheers .. it is the best solution for a troubled Malaysia. Everyone gains from Ibrahim Alis to Ah Chongs and Mutus.

It is happening now. so let it be.

Anonymous,  22 August 2010 at 18:57

Dear Dato,
Your article is right on the spot. English and Malay should be allowed to go hand in hand with English as the language of business. This was the vision of Tunku Abdul Rahman - 1st Prime Minister. You then have a 'plonker' by name MM who changed all that.
Malaysia is a small nation by population and GDP and you cannot afford arrogance.
Sweden, Norway and Denmark include English as a compulsory subject in their education system. I have worked in Norway and Denmark and most kids above 11yo can speak English very well. Singapore is another example.
In Brasil they have to learn 3 languages to be successful; Portuguese,Spanish and English.
Malaysia was left with a strong education system in English and UMNO destroyed it.
To equip the Malays for the 'world' economic race, they need English and Mandarin - not Arabic. I know this does not sound right to UMNO but this is the truth.
There are three main computer languages used today; BASICS, FORTRAN & CC++. There is no
compiler to compile any computer program written in Bahasa Malaysia.
Even the German & French has to know English to use these computing languages. So where do the Malay stands? Answer: No P
progress with Malay language only.
Will Najib achieve his high-income concept? No. One can only achieve high income by high-productivity and high-value. He can only achieve this if he first reverses the education system to 60s & 70s. He might takes 15 to 20 years to do that. Not in your life time Dato.
I hope you keeping banging hard on this subject and perhaps the future leaders might see sense. It is still not too late to reverse your education system.

Quiet Dispair...

Everytime you post with your OWN CONCLUSIONS without basis from Anwar hating this and that and form your conclusion Anwar destroy the country.

Gosh ... I can refute you one by one and give y0u more but then it is a waste of time trying to explain to a BTN trained blogger.

If you want to say anything , justify what you are posting. Dont just say this and that without basis.

Hey... Anwar IS THE BEST THING THAT HAPPEN TO THIS COUNTRY.

He brought Malaysia to more accountabilities.

Just answer this... are your comfortable to the huge huge corruptions, cronism , losses by the billions etc etc and our everything from Unis to GDP ...all poor performance . ARE you okay with this?

Tell us , before you rant nonsense.

"You dont have to drag my name to..."- Quiet Despair

Your name? Quiet Despair??

What a load of bullshit. Don't hide behind that moniker and call that your NAME.

You make racist remarks behind that mask.

You are one of those who cannot talk about our country or about our people without mentioning the word Melayu in every other sentence you write. Your source of inspiration is the Utusan Malaysia and hero worship that slit-eyed Chinaman wannabe Malay Ridhuan Tee (wearing a songkok and baju Melayu), but with pork running through his blood since the day he was born.

Jebat 23 August 2010 at 04:21

Dear Dato' Sak,

I wish Tunku Abdul Rahman as the 1st Prime Minister of Malaysia had governed as the way Lee Kuan Yew and family is ruling Singapore and still are.

All his successors too should govern the same.

Malaysia will be different then.

This is what Lee Kuan yew said in 1997:
“If you are a troublemaker…it’s our job to politically destroy you. Put it this way. As long as JB Jeyaretnam stands for what he stands for – a thoroughly destructive force – we will knock him. Everybody knows that in my bag I have a hatchet, and a very sharp one. You take me on, I take my hatchet, we meet in the cul-de-sac.”
“Anybody who decides to take me on needs to put on knuckle-dusters. If you think you can hurt me more than I can hurt you, try. There is no way you can govern a Chinese society.”
“They say people can think for themselves? Do you honestly believe that the chap who can’t pass primary six knows the consequence of his choice when he answers a question viscerally, on language, culture and religion? But we knew the consequences. We would starve, we would have race riots. We would disintegrate.”

Bizarre effects on teens

KUALA LUMPUR: Is hormonal imbalance creating more male teenagers with breasts, while female teenagers are getting more hairy?
Cosmetic and aesthetic physician Dr Alice Prethima said she is seeing many cases of gynecomastia (enlargement of breasts in males) in her clinic.
But, she is also seeing teenage girls coming in because they have too much hair all over their body.
“Compared to the past, there are many girls with terrible hair problems.
They are losing the hair on their heads and growing hair on other areas of their body where there shouldn’t be. And, the hair is so long and thick,” she said.
Dr Prethima attributed the abnormalities in male and female teenagers to the food chain and diet.
Physical changes: Bodies of teenage boys are converting testosterone to another form due to bad oestrogenic substance in the environment resulting in abdominal fat and abnormally sized breasts.
“Children are eating too much animal-based food, and those animals are fed with a lot of growth hormones.
“Our society has become more affluent. We may eat meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner,” she added.
She said bad oestrogens was also entering the body from plastic materials such as fizzy bottled drinks which “bleed” bad oestrogen.
“Those plastic containers that we use to warm our food, the polystyrene boxes in which we pack our food, the plastic bags that we pour the curry into, the roti canai we wrap in plastic – all of those bleed bad oestrogen substances. There is also a lot of pesticides, insecticides and bad oestrogenic substances in the environment, and this will manifest in different ways for those of different ages,” she added.
Dr Prethima said due to “xeno ostrogen”, instead of producing testosterone, the bodies of teenage boys are converting it to (harmful) 16 hydroxyoestrone, which results in the loss of hair and the development of acne, abdominal fat and abnormally-sized breasts.
Plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr V. Surendranathan said gynecomastia was now becoming very common among teenage boys, mainly due to the children’s eating habits and sedentary lifestyle.
“They are eating too much chicken and getting very little exercise. They are stuck in front of the television and computers all day.
“It’s very embarrassing for the boys to have breasts. They can’t even take off their T-shirt in school.”
Dr Surendranathan said he has even had to perform breast-reducing procedures on 13 and 14 years old boys. The former president of the Malaysian Association of Plastic, Aesthetic & Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons (Mapacs) said there has been a noticeable increase in such cases over the last few years.
Consultant plastic and cosmetic surgeon Dr Heng Kien Seng said he too has been seeing a lot of cases of teenage boys with gynecomastia, and he has had to perform breast reduction procedures on these boys so that they can regain the physical look of normal male chests.
Among the treatments available include liposuction, gland excision, and reduction mammoplasty.

You be the judge.

Cheers.

Dato'

I do shared similar experience with Chen in the 70s but find the present racial situation disturbing.

How have we descended to this level of intolerance and mutual dis-respect is of grave concern to me and many of my friends.

We must work hard to ensure the success of 1Malaysia, 'Rakyat First, Performance Now'.

Dato.
Saya orang Penang, saya sangat tahu hal tentang rakyat Penang. Sebenarnya UMNO PENANG kena perbetulkan pucuk pimpinan dulu, bukan nak hentam keromo Kerajaan Negeri sekarang. BN PENANG kena susun semula strategi yang boleh bagi impak positif. Kalau lah dok hentam orang sahaja.Cerminkan diri sendiri dulu. Rakyat Penang bukan bodoh lagi. Nak hentam orang pun kena ada caranya. Saya rasa masih belum terlambat.

hi dato,

the problem with our country's education is not the sekolah kebangsaan or vernacular schools or the lack of english schools. it is simply the problem of our country's education.

Correct, the commentator was highlighting the "History of Mankind more than about Christianity..."

It is the "Historical Religious Aspects" of Zeitgeist.
