Anwar between needs and wants.

1. Anwar WANTS to become PM for another term because :-

2. He wants to carry out wide ranging reforms.

3. He wants to make good the promises he made

4. He wants to clean up the government. Good governance is his slogan

5. He wants to weed out corruption

6. He wants to prosper the country

7. He wants political stability.

8. And other things expected from a good government

9. First thing first. He must retain and restore the faith of people in him that he is indeed a reformer

10. That faith has been shattered somewhat

11. Because of his vacillation, his to-ing and fro-ing, his plasticity as it were.

12. With your indulgence, a little digression if you may 13. Anwar has always struck me as hollow and just a liberal bourgeoisie

14. When he was at UM, he was president of PMUM and PBMUM

15. He was able to attract like minded liberal bourgeoisie too to his cause.

16. He was a gifted orator then and still is

17. As I have said, birds would perch on his palms to eat and girls would strip in front of him

18. In the 1970s late, during my time, when he came to campus, these things happened

19. His off campus supporters who came and students who gawked at his legend, kowtowed to him

20. Tudung clad girls would swoon over him and imagined him to be their bf .

21. He was and is a crowd puller. That I give to him and respected him for that. Salute!

22. But despite these arsenal and the smarmy compliments given to him by his minions on the internet, I never held him in an exalted position

23. His cause at that time was Islam, race and any miseries imagined suffered by the Malays

24 . That exalted estimation, I gave another person, komrad Kassim Ahmad.

25. An unassuming and a personable fellow, the quintessential socialist

26. Not belittling Anwar, he has all my respects save exalted estimation.

27. It was more of historical sentimentalism for me

28. In 1974, when I was in lower 6, I traveled from my hometown Kuantan to Kemaman

29. In that year, Kassim was competing in a by election against Mustapha Ali.

30. Kassim arrived at the premises of the rapat umum in a beat up VW.

31. In those days, it was called a rapat umum not as now, a ceramah

32. Kassim wasn't a fiery speaker . The fiery one who accompanied him was Hasnul Hadi.

33. His low key and muted pull factors were more valuable to me, an incorrigible lefty, than the pompous pull factors

34 . In assessing Anwar's wants we must look at them in perspective

35. Kassim Ahmad said figuratively, that Anwar should be hanged

36. Karpal Singh said Anwar has done enough damage to the country

37. So, we mustn't look at Anwar's wants with rose tainted lenses.
