A simple matter that is proving so extremely difficult

When Dr Mahathir offers to stand in Bagan Pinang, that ennobles him as the emperor of sarcasm. He is no longer insistent. He speaks as a de facto UMNO president. He goes over for Raya at Mat Hassan's Raya do and gave his statement on Isa. When Dr Mahathir goes all out and takes position, this is grounds for circumspection. Why is Dr Mahathir so insistent? What has he got against Isa Samad. Isa Samad was ousted by Pak Lah and I would have thought anything done by Pak Lah, Dr Mahathir will automatically reject offhand. Very strange indeed.

I have been told, last night there are 5 to 6 groups meeting in Telok Kemang. They were adamant to give their unanimous support to Isa Samad to stand as candidate. Muhamad Hassan wants to propose the ketua wanita. UMNO members want Isa Samad.

UMNO is battling itself. It is exorcising its own demons. Who shall UMNO decide on? The top leadership seems to favour some other than Isa. But the ground wants Isa. It looks like the leadership is on a collision course with its followers. It risks alienating its own people. These are the people who are going to do the grunt work.

This places UMNO in a quandary. Like Sherlock Holmes said – it seems, from what I gather, to be one of those simple cases which are so extremely difficult-
The Boscombe Valley Mystery. Indeed, what should have been a simple matter is proving so formidable for the UMNO leadership. Nothing in UMNO nowadays seem simple anymore. Your past comes to haunt you.

UMNO desperately needs to bag this Bagan Pinang thing to stop the momentum. UMNO is gravely imperiled if it loses this.

So we ask, what is it that UMNO want? Is it to win or to start a cleaning up process? Which should be given priority? The UMNO people want Isa, the leadership balks at this idea. The wisdom of the crowd says they don't want Isa. It is bad for UMNO because it needs to send a strong signal to the electorate that it's on the mend. UMNO has already begun the process of restructuring. It is throwing out the quota system and election by just 2500 delegates. That shall put a stop to money politics.

But its paradoxical I must say. UMNO says it wants to begin anew. Why start at the ADUN level? For that matter why start at Isa Samad's level? The fish rots at the head. If UMNO wants to reform or transform or whatever, it should start with the top leadership. Throw them out. That's credibility. That's principled.

Away from the inquisitive minds, this battle at Bagan Pinang is between Isa Samad and Mat Hassan. Mat Hassan's hold on NS UMNO is fragile and the prospects of a man with 22 years experience as the MB sitting in the Dewan across the current MB's bench, disturbs Mat Hassan. If anything were to happen to Mat Hassan, the man NS UMNO will look up to will be Isa. That is second coming for Isa.

In the end UMNO is looking for deliverance.
Just flip the coin.

Dato',
All the squabblings for the choice of candidate for Bagan Pinang may see the erosion of support for BN due to internal sabotage. Is this going to be the way of UMNO now? You are right in that it is getting harder to manage UMNO now especially with a President that is losing his grip and a meddling ex President.

Sounds like not only the PR don't like Isa, UMNO top leadership also don't. So don't blame PR. ;)

Y1,

kita tak blame PR. kita mahu tewaskan mereka. Zaid Ibrahim yang sokong dan bela Isa.

Dato'

It's like those who are for and against I-S-A....

Anyway, to make matters worse UMNO bloggers are now saying that Isa was Framed when he was made guilty for money politics...

Who Framed him? Apparently KJ was accused of being the culprit!!

Woweeeee...

If Isa samad was guilty of money politics, were Ali Rustam and Muhyuddin innocent. I am incline to believe that he was a victim. And he has served his sentence. Unlike Ali Rustam.

Good one, Dato.
Nak solve problem ni senang je.

Letak je TDM . Kalau dia kalah we are able to silence 3 birds with one vote (Isa dan Mat Hasan skali)

Bila dah kalah, Najib has the mandate to stop the rot in the head, like you said.

So TSM, the ball is in your court.... just listen to me!!!

WISE GUY.

Yes Sir, the fish rots at the head first. So what do we do? Change the head or buy a fresh new fish? Since the feudal system of UMNO makes it so difficult to change the head, why not change the fish. I see no problem with that. In the end the voters will have to decide.

Get a neutral body to go down to the grass root to conduct a survey on what type of candidate the ordinary people would like to have.

If there still gonna be a stalemate, the next course of action will be tossing up the dime!

Sir,

You are right that the rot starts at the head.

Could you please specify the heads that need to be removed?

vinnan,  27 September 2009 at 14:54

'UMNO has already begun the process of restructuring. It is throwing out the quota system and election by just 2500 delegates. That shall put a stop to money politics.'

If UMNO can bribe voters numbering in the tens of thousands what is so difficult about buying the thousands of UMNO delegates?

Anonymous,  27 September 2009 at 15:08

Suci dalam debu,

I don't think Sak will specify the head to be removed. Coming from UMNO Pekan, he will offend the head if he does. Or is there any other head above the head from Pekan? I thought we have only one head...hee..hee

There is a big difference of what ahli UMNO wants and what the voters as a whole wants when they lose.UMNO members can have the ways, choosing candidates etc but ultimately the total results in numbers that counts. We can write about it,spin it,make conclusion of the results but the result remains.YOu cannot change numbers.
This is tricky time for UMNO but it also a great moment to show willingness to sacrifice for greater good.going back to basic, accepting the reality of current situation, public perception etc.Weight carefully all the data in hand and the concequences percentage of all path.
But internal bickering seems to be a norm these days in umno,so many want to be hero but so less with deep knowledge.Take the blog world, its humiliating to see popular one are great at cursing, poor mocking with no intelect.anything with calculation, percentage variations or suggestion will be clicked away, susah nak paham kot,or mmg tak minat number.Mocking, cursing, vulgarities are suppose to be a norm for MT or many others opposition blogs,as opposition=demonstration=vulgarities. But seems now ruling gov is catching up.For God sake , your party are still the ruling, act like one.Talk smart and act too.Good traits like setiakawan, sacrifices for the greater good, humility are best out in open now.Over are days when Adun can say like mat said jasin-tutup sebelah mata, paip bocor, jerai nampak underwear airasia etc.Jokes over boys.

ISA is the right person..
TDM no longer feels the pulse of the UMNO ppl or the rakyat...
If its ethics ..most if not ALL the Cabinet have to sayonara now.

Its so hypocritical to judge ISA when one might also be tainted but never caught in that particular net.

We can forgive UMNO for any minor transgressions as long as they do not forget us.

Bangsa Cina Malaysia 27 September 2009 at 17:59

khairy is still the Umno youth leader..

ali rustam is still the Ketua Menteri of Melaka..

so why should Md Isa not allowed to contest at Bagan Pinang...

UMNO must not practice double standard..

Looks like Permatang Pasir clone.
PR no need to work so hard.

"A simple matter that is proving so extremely difficult"

Yes, it happens to PR as well. For example Eli's case. After so many press conferences and tears spillage in the end Eli and PR swallowed back what they had spitted out. Hmmm, typical of PR's way of handling issues affecting their survival. If not hypocrites then what?

Not only that party should have thrown away the double standard practice but in fact the opposition, PR, Nik Aziz, DAP, PKR and all their suppoeters and bloggers shall do the same thing by throwing away its members, cronies, cohorts and leaders who are suspected or already found guilty of not only involving moral corruption but money corruption as well.

UMNO warlords defy
1.logic
2. wisdom of elders
and
3.new vision of corruptless pple as leaders in Govt.
Looks another one bite dust, and shoot in own foot and self inflicted.
Election results predictable ie ,the other side win.(same as before by elects)
So actually frm now until casting votes, another ticket fr freebies and handouts and goods.
BN, sori but no apologies.
