The case of disappearing local rice. The sorokers and the hoarders. Tales by an unknown blogger. No. 56
1. Allow me to speak on 2 issues regarding our rice problem. one is so obvious, but I made the error of not discussing it early on. The 2nd, I have touched briefly and now I wish to amplify a bit.
2. The first reason, the obvious reason why local rice disappeared, is because the rice is hidden, sorok and stockpiled. Monied people must have sorok it.
3. Sorok is now the dirty 5 letter word, replacing the dirty 4 letter word many of us adults are accustomed to and like to do.
4. Some people say some people sorok the addendum. Well, some people sorok the beras. Sheriff mat sabu should look into this matter. Maybe sleep over at a chosen kilang padi .
5. Who are these fuckers, er pardon me, I mean sorokers? If guilty , jail them, pardon them or have them house arrested. Especially if they are bumiputeras who have special rights kan?
6. Perhaps, it's wak jahid. He had tons of rice stashed in godowns in Bagan latok..nah it can't be. Perhaps it's mat shabu2 - hiding them in kota raja or in Kedah. Can't be- hes stupid but not that stupid.
7. After a frolicsome and gladsome process of elimination, we come to the usual suspects.
8. The ' sorokers ' could be the suppliers of inputs, moneyed padi farmers especially the absentee landlords , the pengilang padi, middlemen conglomerates, retailers and even the monopoly importer or the DAP.( Hehe)
9. Check these people thoroughly. Leave no stones unturned. Hunt them as you do the siput gondang.
10. The moneyed farmers, especially the absentee land owners hoard the padi maybe out of spite because they couldn't marry some stubborn daimsels. Arrest them, circumcise them a 2nd time so as to douse their friskiness. Down boy, down !
11. Why should we have 1 importer only? We can't compare imported and domestic price. It's not comparing apples to apples.
12. But if we have several importers, we can compare imported prices among them. We can compare apples to apples. The price of imported rice can be cheaper.
13. The price of imported rice may still be dearer than local rice because of the tariff and tax elements on the former. But the price of imported rice may be cheaper than if the price is set by 1 bloody importer.
14. Overall there is more rice in the country. Then let the pockets determine which rice the people want to consume . Those with deeper pockets may wish to consume imported price. But for me the sekinchan rice tastes better than basmati.
