We are All in the Same Boat staying in different cabins. Put our Trust in a Good Captain of a Government.

When the world seems to be converging, UMNO leadership does the opposite. UMNO promotes divisiveness. Now it’s promoting a special brand of fear- that Malays are doomed if others take over the country. Malay monarchy is threatened and Islam is imperilled.
Of course all these things can happen if all Malays subscribe to what UMNO promotes. (1) Malays are a hapless lot (2) The Monarchy needs UMNO to be its spokesman (3) the faith of the Malays is so fragile.
Do we see Malays dropping dead like flies during 5 years of Pakatan rule in Selangor? Do we see Malays dying on the streets during all the years PAS ruled Kelantan?  Do we even see Malays dying under Guan Eng’s Penang Administration?
If Lim Kit Siang wins for example, there will be racial clashes. If DAP wins it will dominate Malaysian politics. UMNO is attributing too much credit to old warhorse Kit Sang. How can one person throw UMNO off balance?
Because, kit Siang is not fighting UMNO/BN alone. There are many millions walking with him, giving each other courage and strength. That is scaring the Mahathir-type Malays in this country. Mahathir of course assumes the Malays in PAS, in PKR and the Malays at large are sissies. Others can’t articulate for their interest, hopes and aspirations as well as Mahathir-type Malays can?
For whom does Mahathir speak? Mahathir is speaking for the select few- those who connived to get RM52billion of the RM54 billion shares issued by the government under the NEP. Mahathir is of course the spokesman of and for the select few who get tenders after tenders, wealth generating resources time after time. Mahathir is the chief spokesperson for the rich and powerful- nothing in common with the 8.7 million Malays living on a monthly income of RM1500 below.
And Mahathir has the gall to say that after 55 years of UMNO rule, Malays are beggars in the country? Who failed to uplift them?
You have had 55 years of opportunity to rectify the situation and you have failed miserably. What can you do in 5 years, what you can’t do in 55? Please don’t insult our intelligence and dismiss our resolve to throw out the one who has failed us.
UMNO places our country in perpetual racial tension and continuing divergence.
When I campaigned  to villagers in Sungai Kelau and Sungai Ruan in Raub, I had to speak in pidgin Malay or Bahasa Pasar. As long as we continue living perpetually divided, feeding off prejudices and differences, we cannot progress. We are of course different in many ways but we are also similar in many ways. We share the resolve to establish a good government based on the rule of law where the relations between all stake holders, government and people, people and people are configured on rules-based relationship. Rights are protected by the rule of law. Hopes are underlined by the rule of law. Fears reduced by the operation of the rule of law.
We are all in the same boat. When this boat sinks, we sink together. The sorry state doesn’t distinguish its drowning victims; it knows not whether the drowning person is Malay, Chinese or Indian.
Malays form 55% of the population in Malaysia. It has only 55% support base. Can UMNO get all 55%? It can’t. The only way it can continue to be relevant, is to widen its support base. That can be achieved by being an inclusive party not in name but in practice and deed. The Chinese is 24% of our population. Can they live like an Island? They can’t. The have only 24% support base.
If DAP wins all, it gets only 24% support. What will it become? It will become an island promoting chauvinism and its own insular thinking.  It cannot be relevant for all Malaysia unless it adapts to the environment. It too must be inclusive. That is the way of the future.
Can anyone rule without factoring in the fact that the majority of the population is Malay? Can anyone rule without factoring in the fact that Malays have had longer historical and cultural affinity with this country? No one can.
What has Guan Eng done in Penang? He has gone to great lengths to demonstrate that Malays can live better under a good and honest government. Islamic interests are looked after reasonably well and better than in most of the UMNO led states. Mat Hassan of N9 allocates Rm10 million to Islamic Council, Guan Eng gives RM 60 million. That has been possible because Penang has an honest government free from corruption and financial leakages from the state treasury.
Any party that refuses to adapt will perish. UMNO will not remain relevant if it continues to live off its policies of racial hegemony. No one wants to be dominated by another. UMNO can only retain hegemony as long as it can convince Malays the way forward is to be bellicose and belligerent. The majority of right thinking Malays do not subscribe to UMNO’s brand of bigotry and belligerence. 3.7 million of the 5.7 million Malays did so in the 2008 elections when they refused to vote for UMNO candidates. UMNO candidates got only 2 million Malay votes.
The Majority must now come together and believe all can be better off under and honest and good government.

Dear Sakmongkol

In our 55 years as a nation we have had extremists surfacing now and then. But no one can match Mahathir. He is the ultra of the ultras. He showed this trait when he was young and the Tunku kicked him out of UMNO. He never changed and eventually reached the very pinnacle he plotted for. One would have thought that 22 years of premiership would have doused the racist fire in him. But no, after retirement he has reemerged even more extreme. This is clear proof that a leopard never changes its spots.

He is now putting on a dog and pony show with Najib Razak. It is quite effective. Mahathir speaks to the Malays’ worst fears – the loss of their position due to the emergence of Chinese power expressed through the DAP; the destruction of the monarchy because the DAP is a republican party in deep disguise; and the decline of Islam because the DAP is a Christian party committed to the conversion of Malays to Christianity. All this is of course not true. The position of the Malays, of the Rulers and Islam are protected by the Constitution. The DAP, even if it wants to, cannot change the constitution because it will have at the very most 40 seats out of 222. To change the constitution you need 148 seats. Even UMNO, so powerful, and its allies, do not have 148 seats. The DAP, unlike PAS, is not founded on religion, and its constitution promotes multiracialism and multi-culturalism. It does not promote hegemony of any sort. Malays are free to join the party.

How could such a party be what Mahathir makes it out to be? It is painted this way simply because Mahathir is lying and is deceitful. He is using the DAP as a bogeyman to frighten and so control the Malays. It is like telling children ghost stories in the dark. They huddled close to you for protection. We need enlightened Malays to switch on the light so that all Malays will see the truth. Light will dispel all fears. There is no ogre in the room, only a friend.

Please watch this clip by Hishammudin Rais (http://youtu.be/sufvtzbEE3U )on "The Bonsification of the Malay Mind" by UMNO. It so true.

Like the bomohs in the villages, UMNO has instilled fear into the Malays. Bomoh's create ghosts to make money and UMNO makes Chinese its ghost to be feared. Only UMNO protects bangsa, raja-raja dan ugama.
After bonsifying their minds UMNO begins to milk them.
That's why they are beggars under UMNO rule.
This is what Hitler did. He made the Jews the enemy to be feared so that the Germans will be united.

Pok Li,  14 April 2013 at 12:52

The one main factor that leads to UMNO/BN's downfall is their insult of the Malays intelligence. More and more Malays have realised this.

Me thinks that the lunatic pathetic Mahakutty of Kerala is deeply thinking over the final destiny of the late Margaret Thatcher, that his deity Kali is looming over his slumber, he just continues to rant and spit out his ever ignoramus vitriol after all he will never see the day what is going to happen to this country.

All he wants is ensure his children continue to enjoy his ill gotten gains.

Any intelligent citizens will be able to sieve out his slanderous and seditious remarks.

He just don't care a damn. That's his default mental template all this years.

You can try all you want to convince us malays that DAP is not a chinese chauvinist part. But at the end of the day NO WAY kami orang melayu akan undi DAP.

ABU Patriot,  14 April 2013 at 16:29

To instil fear of violence and concept of divide and rule using race, religion and royalty is out-dated and no right-thinking Malaysian will subscribe to it. Umno/BN has no other 'cards' to play except what is mentioned esp when GE13 is just round the corner and knowing that there is very strong possibility they will lose. Malaysians MUST ABU all the way to the ballot-box.

Dato,
I am afraid the rural malays are the ones that will be conned by the bn scare tactics. How are you going to convince them that the Chinese are not to be feared?

Anonymous,  14 April 2013 at 19:14

Poor Malays, they have been divided. They have lost strength although they are majority in their very own motherland. Like north and south korea only time will tell.

Anonymous,  14 April 2013 at 19:48

non 16:11,
You are the Malay Hishammudin Rais spoke about in the video I posted earlier. Bodoh. Lazy thinker.
If Nik Aziz and all PAS leaders can work with DAP, why are you so anti-DAP. Why fear DAP? Doesn't make sense, does it. I think you are an UMNO cybertrooper with no brains.

Anonymous,  14 April 2013 at 20:22

Ya lah tu, DAP is very good to the muslims blah, blah smelling of roses.

Then why the insistence to use Allah in bible? Christians only form abt 8pc of the pop, so really bent on antagonising the larger muslim pop.
And remember it was tokong lim who revived this issue in his xmas/new year msg in dec 2012.
That only put hadi and tok nik in a difficult poisition. And we saw the shameless waffling of sekali boleh, eh tak boleh, eh boleh.
Apa ni? Klu benda ni menyentuh Aqidah, there is no vacillation.

And you will agree with me this concerns our Aqidah? Or at least the person you once were (when at the height of this issue you wrote 3 or 4 aritcles in yr blog. Sampai habis marina and her confident muslims, haris ibrahim, etc, semua kena tibai).
So where now do you stand on this issue? If it is Aqidah (the Base) then it shd remain. Jadi bila kamu nak bersuara, tarbiyah kan saudara baru kamu?

Saya ada juga mirip kat Pas dulu. Skrg tak. Dap? Lagi lah no way! Sorry

Dato, nowadays every Umno/BN leaders with their long lines of bodekers and ass lickers are trying to make such an issue of Kit Siang standing in Gelang Patah. Why are they so afarid of Kit Siang?Because they know that Kit Siang holds a big broomstick.

Everbody knows that Kit Siang can stay in Ipoh Timor and win with a landslide this coming GE.If Kit Siang is power crazy as the Umno and parakets say,why not Kit Siang stay in Ipoh.Sit on his confortable arm chair, legs crossed, sip coffee and tea and wait for election night to claim victory. Why take the risk of losing at the height of his political carrer by going off with a loss.

Kit Siang going to Gelang Patah is not about ego or power crazy. He is leading the charge for the continuation of the 2008 tsunami.Because Kit Siang has better use of his big broomstick. To sweep Umno/BN out of Putrajaya.

Umno's money and scare politics will not work this time around. The Malays have awoken. The Sabahans have realised that they have been taken for a ride.By having an illegitimate gomen ruling and surpressing over them. The indeginious people having their rights and ancestral land forcfully taken away by cronies of leaders.

It will be a day of reckoning for Umnoputras and their cronies this election night. After the results are announced there will be a heavy thunderstorm to wash all the filth accumulated after 56 years away.

For everybody's information and esp for anon 1611 and 2245,

'Allah 'was used by the pagan arabs to refer to their god and they were idolators and believed in many gods. The arab christians before the time of the prophet till this very day still refers to god as Allah. The prophet's father , whom with good historical evidence showed that he was not a Muslim, was named Abdullah( arabic for 'slave of Allah').

As muslims, we are taught to emulate the prophet.
Well, the prophet never went around condemning or prohibiting the christians and the idolators for calling the supreme being they worshipped as 'Allah'. He went around 'explaining' who Allah really was and also the concept of tauhid or religious monotheism.

Malay muslims must be open minded and realize that we are not the only ones living in this world.Learn more about history and culture and most importantly your own religion. Your akidah should not be affected by Christians calling god Allah. How can one be so confused that they are unable to differentiate between reading a malay tafseer and a Bahasa bible? Are malays really that dumb?
Have you no confidence in the sekolah agama lessons that you learnt and do you not teach your own children about islam that their akidah is so easily shaken? How will malay muslims survive globalization ? What will you do when you meet a coptic christian arab reading an ARABIC bible in KL?

The focus should not have been about the usage of Allah.if muslim malays are sincere about emulating the prophet then they should focus on dakwah and making a ruckus about who can or cannot use 'Allah' is definitely not the prophet's methodology of dakwah.

Of course as political figures , they shoyld have handled this more delicately and with more intelligence if they were thslves truly sincere in resolving the matter and had the Malaysian ppls unity in mind.Alas, politcs is dirty and there is always an ulterior motive behind every action.

To my fellow Muslims , let us built a strong akidah in our hearts and equipt ourselves with real knowledge of Islam then hopefully we can avoid getting easily excited by things which should not have taken so much of our energies so that we can focus on more pressing matters.

Hamba Allah.

Masa sekarang, krn kedesakan utk mengekalkan kuasa, gerombolan mampu melakukan apa2 shj.

Rasuah dipentingkan.

Salam dana teruskan perjuangan.

walla 15 April 2013 at 11:23

Why have our Malays in Umno never said anything about the Indians? Because they are small in numbers and economically weak. So our Malays don't fear the Indians.

Why do our Malays in Umno always say something about the Chinese? Because they are smaller in numbers and economically strong. So our Malays in Umno fear the Chinese.

If our Malays in Umno don't fear the Indians but fear the Chinese, then it must be because of some economic reason only. It cannot be because of the number of them reason.

So we next ask what causes our Umno Malays to fear change. From the above argument, it must therefore be because they fear the Chinese will use their economic strength to wrestle political power from our Umno Malays. That's the only reason. They fear once the Chinese have more political power, they will change things around to disrupt Malay ethnicity and Muslim faith in this country.

This fear is however quite puzzling.

One, the Chinese in this country can never change the federal constitution on their own because they are too small in numbers to vote to change it even if all of them vote to do so. That instrument of government protects both our Malay ethnicity and Muslim faith and is also securitized by our Royal Rulers.

Two, in the impossible event they can do so, the Malays in this country and not just those in Umno can gather together on their own to overthrow the setup. After all, the Malays in this country run all the major federal institutions including enforcement, defense, finance and Islamic matters.

Three, the Chinese are too small in numbers to position their own people in the federal institutions. If even in the remote possibility they can do so, the Malays working in the thousands in those institutions can stand down all activities and deactivate the executive orders. The country will grind to a halt.

Four, if the Chinese wield their economic muscle to buy up Malay votes to change matters, they cannot buy up the entire Malay population without bankrupting themselves in which case it would be worse for them.

Five, even if they can do so, the majority of the Chinese combined are not as rich as the Chinese in crony arrangements with Umno Malays.

Therefore it is impossible for the Chinese to take over this country.

Furthermore, the two states of Penang and Selangor where the DAP is active in government have not seen any loss of Malay ethnicity and Muslim faith. On the contrary, both have been protected and succored by better finances.

Hence, the conclusion if you can accept is that our Malays in Umno are harboring an irrational fear not founded on facts, logic, rationale and common sense.

Since we cannot believe our Malays are irrational people practicing only nonsense, it follows their fear is rooted in something else.

What else can it be if not their fear of personal loss? Personal loss of what, we next ask.

Since they say Umno has been good to them, personal loss of personal position, perks, permits, money, land, and so on.

Yet the majority of the poor in this country are our Malays. So if under Umno, they fear the above-mentioned personal losses, they must have been having those things. One cannot fear the loss of something if one does not already have that something. But if they have been having those things, how can the majority of our Malays still be poor?

Now i am also confused.

walla 15 April 2013 at 11:23

The confusion multiplies itself. If as was officially admitted by Umno that RM52 Billion of share money under the NEP scheme has evaporated, then it is logical to think they must have gone to our poor Malays since the NEP was targeted to help the poor.

If that is so, where are the 52,000 Malay millionaires today? Or, since rm1 million at that time was bigger money, where are the 104,000 Malay half-equal-to-full millionaires today?

Are they, for instance, shareholders of SapuraKencana which somehow has been given rights to mine national oil assets? With all that money, they could have combined to start a few hundred such companies and become even richer in more numbers today.

So, why are so many of our Malays still poor today when Umno has said it has a record of performance besides representing the interests of our Alif Ba Ta?

And why has Umno today gone to such sickening measures as to use gangster culture to beat up those of our own Malays who happen not to believe in Umno anymore?

And why are so many of our Malays in Umno closing their ears and eyes to the blatant money bribe for votes that is the only thing Umno's Najib has been doing all these months in this run-up to GE13?

The answer must be because they are the ones personally benefiting from their Umno membership over and above the majority of our Malays who remain poor and in need of support even after half a century of Umno rule. So much so they can even support the use of scandals and lies as an instrument to try and demonize the very Malays of this land who are fighting to remove a bad and hypocritical regime which refuses to change itself because it wants only to short-change all voters so as to retain its own political power.

Hence, the Malays in Umno want to keep their political power but only for their own economic power.

And on May 5th, they will show how desperate they are to do so. They will cheat the Rakyat Of Malaysia whether Malays, Chinese, Indians and our indigenous natives of their right to vote for a government of their real choice.

How else can one explain why Mahathir himself has to come out to campaign for his Umno while remaining silent on at least three things - the Billions absconded, the Project IC Umno vote for citizenship papers, the corruption and cronyism in too many examples under his administration until even after it presumably ended, Sapura(crony)Kencana(family)can materialize?

In that, we can see the personification of Umno's personal interest as the only reason it does what it does.

How else can you explain why someone almost at his end can come out to deliberately use his trademark racism to try again to divide the Rakyat Of Malaysia when hypocritically he had himself once waxed about national unity? If not for personal interest, what? To break DAP when that party cannot on its own change anything without the cooperation of our Malays?

Although they pay the most taxes and are law-abiding national citizens and stalwarts of this nation, the Chinese have again been used. They are blamed for everything that Umno can cook up.

Those in the MCA and Gerakan should take a lesson immediately how Umno can without fanfare or abang-adik sentiment jettison the great Alliance compact. Honor amongst brothers? More like dishonor between thieves. The Indians in Hindraf and the MIC should therefore also wake up.

No?

Q.D. me too want to get over with this quickly. Dump Captain Bligh and Mrs Bligh in a sampan and set them off to find their way back to Sulawesi. He and his pampered good-for-nothing relatives had it too good for too long. TLDM can send their Scorpenes to look for us in the tujuh samudra. They surface and the Sirens will terrify them to their doom.

Dear Sir, my utmost respect to you. Your articles are thought provoking and very relevant to the aspirations of the people of our beloved nation. I have a DREAM...
A DREAM that one day our children, our children's children...will only identify themselves as proud MALAYSIANS..no more divisiveness based on ethnicity, race, creed or religion...There is only mutual RESPECT...and we are all united under one nation...MALAYSIA..
