In the previous article, I mentioned the need to instill into Malays a feeling of being driven. We need to turn them into go getters who are less inhibited by cultural, social and doctrinal constraints. Or constraints of habits.
UMNO doesn't have a core e group of thinkers in their midst. We don't have for example a special body within UMNO entrusted with strategic thinking. We farm that task out. We ask others to write in an ideological program into our minds. We shape public opinions as they come along and make use of 3rd parties- opinion polls, apco-ised PR firms etc. As a result, the public see UMNO as Jack Sparrow personified. We don't exactly know whether UMNO has a long term strategic vision, or it solves problems and make plans , as it goes along. Similar to captain Jack Sparrow. Accordingly, we hope to benefit from fortuitous outcomes. We bank in on lady luck.
Not good. We don't go out as a determined, dedicated and driven leadership. We hope things will turn out for the better. We practice the same ailment we decry of others- we adopt a rent seeking attitude instead of adopting a go-getter mindset.
How do you prepare UMNO people and Malays mentally then? You have to put in place a culture of responding to challenge. We need to respond to challenges and threats not dissimilar to the theories expounded by the historian Arnold Toynbee. No, readers don't have to go study what Toynbee said. The important point is- a culture that lacks a driving and highly educated leadership committed to public service cannot expect to progress far. A people that lacks the driving and determined urges cannot progress far too.
That culture is missing in UMNO. What UMNO has done so far, is do minimal changes to how it elects leadership material at branch and division and national levels. The outer forms are changed, but the substance not yet. Because, what it has done thus far, is to allow the same quality leadership material to re –group and circulate.
When Muhyidin tells everyone to reform, that question must be directed at the leadership first. You reform and the UMNO people will respond. The top leadership must carry out massive leadership transformation by admitting into the leadership midst, a team of determined, driven and committed to public service individuals. Leaders past their shelf lives should just be asked to leave to make way for others. If they don't, then the UMNO people will change them.
This is where, the alpha leadership must play its role. They must decide the quality of its leadership team. They must start with the realization of the need for change in their midst. This whole business of governance and managing whole people is too complex for the ordinary members. It must be started at the top first.
Then only on the UMNO people and then the Malays. Look at the big picture. In Shell this is called the helicopter vision. The ability to see the big picture. The big picture is to understand the position in history of the Malays in a globalized world. How would a Malay takes his place in the world?
Definitely not by cocooning himself in a protective shell and environment, yelping at every turn, this is our right, that is our birthright. We can no longer stop the forces of change from engulfing us. The only way to survive is to be a player on the bigger stage; by first cultivating within UMNO , UMNO people and Malays the necessary skills sets ad tools. When the PM says, affirmative action policies remain but re-organized on the foundations of meritocracy, transparency, competitiveness, he is on to something. He knows the way to Malay salvation is some kind of entrepreneurial capitalism. People leveraging on the intrinsic capabilities, skills and abilities competing with others.
The PM looks around- he sees so many obstacles. The existence of these obstacles is because he too is at fault. He doesn't have a team of dedicated and determined caucus of similar thinking individuals pushing and articulating his agenda. He doesn't act fast to counter the thinking Perkasa represents which is no longer just confined to Perkasa operatives but also shared, deep inside UMNO citadels. He must demolish these internal hurdles. Remove them.
His immediate step is to give credibility to those who go all out pushing his agenda. For example, right now, people are not interested when KJ battles Ibrahim Ali and similar thinking people- because PM Najib, the UMNO president hasn't shown his clear hand. But if he tells everyone, he is behind his KP on this, he gives credibility and many people will be interested.
The truth is Najib administration is mostly just taking Mahathirism fundamental ideas a step further. Its Mahathirism II and that is why its failing. The ironic thing about it is that Mahathir is now one of his critics (I always really laugh when Mahathir criticize Najib).
ReplyDeleteLike it or not, there is limited opportunity for protectionist systems in anything especially economics these days.
The way to move forward for the Malays is simply dynamic reform. You can't protect but you can incubate. For all institutions and groups that have been build over the years, Mara, GLC etc. open them up to competition and change. For those that can't compete in new changes, set up new groups and institutions to take them in to start over on new things and new ideas. Repeat it a few more times and it should work for most people. In other words keep building new things and new ideas. Forget about holding on to the old - let the old survive or fail on merit. Repeat it often enough, not all will survive but overwhelming majority will prosper.

ReplyDeleteYour Piece on "UMNO moving up to the next level" is rather Inappropriate at this time.
DPM Muhyideen's suggestion that UMNO must change and improve WITHIN 5 MONTHS or perish...doesn't give a picture of an organisation ready to move up to the next level!
Anyway, they say that when the Going gets Tough, the Tough gets going.
So far, the only tough talk is coming from KJ. The rest (including the PM) have delegated the Tough gets going to the Judiciary and the Police!!
Using these institutions as a proxy will only result in counter measures that will risk breaking the system.
That's not what the country needs right now!
The Government's Main Source of income which is Oil is depleting as our country's oil rapidly depletes. Peak Production is long over and the great decline is more than half way down!
Shouldn't the government worry about that?
What will happen when there's no more oil to sell and we become more than 60% oil importer?
We will be in the same league as the Phillipines...
It will be a long and winding road for Umno to change. You can't change a mindset that has perpetuated for years since TDM era. That guy thought he was smart and was Raja of his Kingdom. He survived his premiership at at taxpayers' cost and could do anything he like.Along the way he spoilt his cronies rotten and today we have a set of no brainers'in umno except there are in it for money. You have this poor quality politicians churning out rubbish from the arena!
ReplyDeleteThe trouble with upstarts in umno is that its money that drives them to fast track any gains without working really hard!
Day in and out you will hear that they need to reform but its empty talk down the line.Let's not kid ourselves as this addiction on the prevailing mindset will not change!
Any change if it really happens will start a war in umno within.
The shock syndrome was started long ago by TDM so who the hell will want to thrown sand into their rice bowl?

ReplyDeleteUMNO will not change. UMNO is now operating from a position of weakness politically. UMNO is using its incumbency in govt to use all means, foul or otherwise, the ends justify the means strategy, to stay in UMNO.
Malays' long term interest is secondary to winning power.
UMNO is a political party, not a Malay NGO meant to bring the community's aspirations in both social and cultural setting to a higher level or to transform the Malay society in the altruistic sense.
UMNO today will play the dog-eat-dog politics of the day without batting an eye about the long term impact on the destiny of the Malay community. That is not its institutional mandate.
UMNO attempts to take religion along in its path, yet it faces credible challenges from PAS. UMNO tries to be multiracial in its governance, yet it faces credible challenges from PKR and even PAS.
I think you and I know that. UMNO leadership is unwilling and unable to change.
All calls for reform WITHIN UMNO will fall on deaf ears of those UMNO leaders who matter.
There was the opportunity after March 2008 election results and after two years, many felt that opportunity has been lost. Instead UMNO leaders felt safer to slide back to cocoon the party and reside to bad habits of the old days... that was and now the comfort zone of the present crop of UMNO leaders.
KJ does not have the political clout nor could he bring UMNO Youth along with him on this. That is the really sad and unfortunate part of the politics of KJ. Many felt KJ did not use well his political capital when his father in law was the PM... he could have been more patient instead of engaging in unnecessary rhetoric to win political brownie points of the moment.
Assalamualaikum Dato',
ReplyDeleteI think it has been long time since I dropped by and comment.
Anyway, reading your piece is interesting as usual..
Only my query is this (for now)...
You asked DS Najib to show clear support, either to support his KP or not... However, his KP was and is assigned to unify and strenghten Pemuda..
If you are the president, assigned an important task (which will lead to stronger foundation and base for UMNO to move forward) to your KP, he failed to do his job, and picked a fight with someone else..
And the task was given way before Ibrahim Ali and Perkasa come into national picture...
Will you give support?

ReplyDeleteCan UMNO transform?
Here is what is happening on the ground, with UMNO, in Kelantan, of all places:
Refer to this link on FaceBook, written after witnessing first hand :
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/profile.php?id=844197178
Dato Sak, you can scream at the top of your voice, the warlords in UMNO don't give a damn about maruah.
UMNO is like the Dutch football team playing against the Spanish team during the World Cup final. It was simply dirty and the Dutch team was condemned all round, even by Dutch commentators.
Betul ker ni....bukan tulisan saya....
ReplyDeleteFor a very long time the US government was looking for a political lackey to do its bidding in South East Asia. They scoured the earth and soon found their man in Bolehland – a land where anything is possible. He was none other than Dr Mahathir Mohamad (Dr M). They would mould, modify and manage him into a perfect make-believe.
By Martin Jalleh
They first portrayed Dr M as the savior of his nation. He would make great speeches about the grave threat of recolonisation but for his own political survival he would hone to perfection and use a gamut of archaic repressive laws left behind by the Colonial Master. US professors in history and politics would then write about the tragedy of how the once-oppressed are now the oppressors in the Third World!
Next they projected him through the foreign press as a Voice of the Third World. Dr M would invite Nelson Mandela to stand next to him in Kuala Lumpur to declare his anti-apartheid vehemence. The same media would then go to town with his racist stance at home which was confirmed recently by a Cabinet minister who crowned him a “Bloody racist” and a “Father of racists”! It was an excellent smokescreen for racism in US.
The US singled him out, shored him up and saluted him the hero of the Muslim world. Dr M would declare his country an “Islamic State” and preach on Islamic values. Yet, his party was corrupted to the core and some of his Federal ministers and Chief Ministers (Menteris Besar) were guilty of sexual immorality and many other sins. The West pounced on the tragic contradiction and used it to smear the good name of Islam.
The US gave him free rein with his occasional anti-semitic invective. He would blame the problems of his country and the world on the Jews, though he had official Jewish financial advisors to his government, such as Salomon Smith Barney and Goldman Sachs. The more he attacked Israel, the more it gave the US the excuse to defend and protect them!
He was pictured as fearless in criticising and castigating the US for its many human rights abuses, whilst the US collected evidence of every human right violation he had committed especially those related to the Internal Security Act. Every year such evidence would fill the pages of the annual reports by US agencies on human rights abuse in the country which are sent to potential investors of Malaysia.
“Mahathir, despite his nationalistic rants, signed a secret security agreement with the United States in 1984 that gave the Americans access to a jungle warfare training school in Johor and allowed them to set up a small-ship repair facility at Lumut and a plant in Kuala Lumpur to repair C-130 Hercules transport aircraft,” wrote Barry Wain, author of the ‘Malaysian Maverick: Mahathir Mohamad in Turbulent Times’.
The US recognized him as the man behind Malaysia’s economic success but at the same time it would point the finger at him for the nation’s stagnant economy and for the scandalous amount of money lost during his premiership. As Barry Wain would also reveal: “Malaysia has squandered an estimated RM100 billion on financial scandals under the 22-year rule of Dr Mahathir Mohamad.”
In spite of the big show he had put up in demonising the US, Dr M would seek to return to the US for re-engineering and to receive further instructions. The government paid RM4.6 million for the services of disgraced US lobbyist Jack Abramoff to secure an audience with the then US President George W Bush, whose many crimes against humanity gave an elated Dr M a longer anti-US script to act out.
Dr M said recently that if the US can make 'Avatar', they can make anything, even 9/11!
Alas, how true, they can even make their very own Dr Mahathir Mohamad, one who would do anything at the behest of the US to satisfy his craving for the attention and adulation of his country and the world, and the adoration of his many followers who consider him their very avatar of power!

ReplyDeleteThe Real Dr. Mahathir:
A Good Friend of Jews and a Stooge of the US
By Just Gan
“Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said if Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was loyal to Jewish groups, he could not be loyal to his own country.” (Bernama, 12 July 2010). On the basis of this logic, a certain ex-PM called Dr. Mahathir has been disloyal to Malaysia.
Mahathir had engaged Salmon Smith Barney (a Jewish firm) as his financial advisor during the currency crisis. He had also engaged Goldman Sach (another Jewish firm) for other tasks. Mahathir’s son, Mirzan, worked for Salomon Brothers (a Jewish firm). Mahathir reconciled with George Soros, a Jew he once despised, when Soros visited Malaysia a few years ago and openly declared (for reasons which are still a mystery) that Soros had not been responsible for Malaysia’s financial crisis.
Abramoff, a Jew, arranged a meeting between Mahathir and George Bush after Mahathir’s government paid US$1.2m to the Heritage Foundation managed by Abramoff. These are only just some of the Mahathir-Jewish partnerships. So who is the Jews' good friend? Mahathir or Anwar? Perhaps Dr. Mahathir is again suffering from his (convenient) mental lapses that he experienced during the Lingam enquiry (when he said that could not remember basic details) and has forgotten his partnerships and links with Jewish firms and individuals.
Mahathir has also frequently labeled Anwar as a US lackey, and lately Rais Yatim, a Mahathir sycophant, has called Anwar a CIA agent on the basis of another Utusan trash (see John Mallot's article: Rais Yatim should apologise to Anwar Ibrahim.) Yes, Anwar has worked in US universities and has good friends in the US. Some prominent people from the US spoke up for him during Sodomy I and are speaking up again during Sodomy II. Anwar does not lash out at the US like a certain hypocrite suffering from acute oral diarrhea. Does that make Anwar a US lackey or a CIA agent? RPK's recent question, Who is the US agent? Anwar or Najib?, points to someone else as the CIA agent - Mahathir.
It is Mahathir who is the US lackey and stooge, the real thief who shouts “thief, thief, thief, …” to divert attention from himself. In his address to the Heritage Foundation on 3 May 2002, Malaysia’s defence minister, Najib Tun Razak, provided full details about Malaysia’s covert arrangements with the US in defence matters (see http://www.heritage.org/Research/Lecture/US-Malaysia-Defense-Cooperation). This has also been mentioned by Barry Wain in his book, the Malaysian Maverick.
Looking at what had transpired between the US and Malaysia, especially in defence and economic matters, during Mahathir’s rule, one cannot but conclude that Mahathir had made Malaysia a vassal state of the US, a state which depended on the US for its progress as well as survival. Malaysia under Mahathir provided US the most support in defence in South East Asia. Malaysia’s economy was also most dependent on the US, the US emerging as the number 1 export market and investor for Malaysia.
Can such a close bondage in two of the most critical areas be possible if the relationship between Malaysia and the US was adversarial as made out to be by Mahathir? Can a nation (Malaysia) afford to be against another nation (US) when it depends on the latter for its economic survival and security? Only a fool would believe it to be otherwise.

ReplyDeleteDS Najib's populist policy will not help UMNO to move up to the next level. Only full commitment to UMNO's original mission and objectives will.
UMNO of today will have to find its lost compass to move forward.
Perkasa is the voice with lazy Malay. The voice of yesteryear. UMNO must show progress not like PERKASA. Perkasa is NOT the Malay voice.
ReplyDeleteBravo Dato!
ReplyDeleteThis piece of article is the real eyes opener for the umpteen morons in Umno, more so, Najib has to chew it like his favourite ginseng!
Peoples at large, regardless of race, have got high expectation on umno as the fate, as i said earlier, of the whole Nation is being cuffed to the 'quality' of umno! No one can deny that.....
The sad part is, there has been too few Dato Sabri in the Party but too many old and feeble horses in the staple of umno! Many of them are as good the stallions!
The status quo in umno is not less than an old tavern to accommodate the ageing pimps and the old fashion hookers!
Wise people like Dato Sabri is the granted gift of the society, by extension, the Nation!
Trust me, these people are so good and adored by the rakyat perhaps, but, by deepest sigh, they are not going to be long lived in the Party and their heads are normally carried with bounty! Beheaded when they are found guilty to the power-that-be of speaking righteous and contributing good ideas and opinions for changing the old pimp's style! Like terrorists...
Or more relevantly say so, the Pirates hear no civilized preaching!
Datuk Zaid is a very good example of having his head beheaded by the umno pimps and warlords despite his courage to tout for changes!
Sigh!!!
A: 'Let's say that Paulus can confirm right now to Najib, Muhyiddin and the other Umno supreme council members that Barisan will lose GE13 or its snap election, whenever that'll be. What do you think they will do?'
ReplyDeleteB: 'Paulus as in the Wehrmacht general who surrendered the decimated sixth army at Stalingrad?'
A: '(eyes roll up and round, lips also pout, a bit). No, Sir, Paulus as in the British-born, German-bred, eight-legged octopus.'
B: 'Ah, our friend who's now knighted with the Order of King Carlos. Do you know they are trying to breed him for the next world cup?'
A: 'Seriously, Tun, what will the Council do?'
B: 'They will call an extraordinary Umno meeting and lay these down as a major broadcast:
one, the Umno government does not have enough money to continue the NEP;
two, Petronas is no longer the cash cow of the country;
three, the country's economy will have to be primarily driven by the private sector;
four, the private sector operates only by global rules;
five, investment is the key target, every and all days, every and any where, in the next ten years;
six, without exceptions, everything shall be done to make Malaysia a preferred global investment centre;
seven, in order for our Malays to be able to play ball, there will be immediate changes; and
eight, things are going to cost more so that prudence and integrity will be the two pillars of governance.'
A: 'Sir, do you realize that if they say that, Perkasa members and the Utusan circle will jump.'
B: 'What's the big deal if they do, Sofea? They the ones who built this country? They the ones who laid down their lives to safeguard it? They the ones who sacrificed generations so that Umno elites can cream the economy and monopolize policy-making that has caused this nation to come to such grief today? Come on, make my day.'
A: 'But they're just defending the Malay cause and interests, Tun.'
B: 'With what, Sofea? With denialism of real-world requirements about progress? With hands out but palms in for goodies to line the pockets of their own cronies? With spit and venom against others who have lived neighbourly with their own forefathers for over a century and helped develop this country even while rolling back the vines that would have grown to impede progress?
And let me tell you here and now, they and Umno don't hold the monopoly to Malay cause and interests.
What's the Malay population today? Out of that, maybe only ten thousand Malays are right-wing about things, and of these, five thousand are elites trying to hold on to their patronage and side-incomes.
Ask yourself, are you in your sanest mind going to let just ten thousand determine the fate of this nation of twenty seven million? Think how the brown-shirts of one country had started the conflagration that consumed an entire continent.
The only reason why they are given space to bellyache is because of fear of their incendiary predispositions. If that be the case, why don't they be put on tv nationwide tonight and asked what will they do about the eight points i have just said? Let's all see what's between their ears.'
2
ReplyDeleteA: 'But, Tun, they will still say the real situation is that the Malays are behind and not ready, and if they are not helped, they will never be.'
B: 'Good that you've said that, Sofea. Let me give you some point-blank suggestions for that, assuming we can ignore the fact there's already a Malay middle-class and assuming we can ignore the conspicuous wealth of the Malay elites and assuming it has been over three decades since the affirmative policies have been running on all cylinders.
Suggestion one, Ekuinas dividends will be given to the poor Malays. Let Perkasa determine who these poor Malays are. But note if they nominate themselves or their kin, then it will be conflict of interest unbecoming of their purportedly noble intent. So, that is the condition set. They are not to nominate themselves. Let them show they can walk the talk and not the walk.
Suggestion two, since the fund can be augmented, tax the Malay elites who have benefited for three decades from the affirmative policies so that this special tax, much like the profit tax on the oil palm companies, can add to the fund and increase its investments to target more dividends for our poor Malays. And who are these Malay elites, i hear a voice whimper in the background? Ask the one who's been going around trying to divide our society all over again. Ask him how come his son can be given forbesian ranking as a billionaire. Let the rakyat be charitable and ask for only half of that to be voluntarily contributed into this fund for the poor Malays. Say the Perkasa president insists. Five hundred million ringgit is still five hundred million ringgit, innit? Then stand back and see the look on his face as he grapples for an answer. While at it, go for the others. Al-Bukhary, Taib of Sarawak, Nazimuddin, the Umno supreme council members past and present, the cawangan and bahagian chieftains - the whole lot, Sofea.'
A: 'But, Sir, if we do that, the Malay elites will raise a ruckus.'
B: 'Then what is it all about, Sofea? Are we saying that within these shores, the commercial world is to function by a different set of rules and our society is to be policed by a different set of standards?'
A: 'Sir, if we don't, there will be trouble.'
B: 'Are you suggesting that the government can be blackmailed by a group of its own political party? What about the interests of the Malays of other political parties? What about the Orang Asli's? In fact, let me ask you, if the word Asli means original, then their forefathers must be original to this land, and since they are not Malays, doesn't that therefore mean our Malays are not original to this land which therefore also mean they are immigrants? And if they are also immigrants, did the framers of the constitution foresee the situation today where the descendants of the original groups of immigrants would be at a loss to explain how they are also not special while being born in the same maternity ward?
It is also not lost on anyone that conferring bumiputra status on the Orang Asli's is just a tacky way to elevate bumiputra status of the Malays to asli status of the Orang Asli's. And slide in the illegal immigrants from Indonesia as well, for mass number effect.
A: 'But i protest, Sir. All accepted the clause.'
B: 'Indeed, all did but it was done with the same spirit of independence that we are now trying to revive in this difficult time. But note that each time our moderate majority tries to do so, some group or other will rush forward to insert malevolence.
And if they say it’s based on time - how long one race has been residing in a country that can give it the right to change the word privilege into right - then one can ask if that also means it’s alright for casual workers given one-month social passes to be labeled as immigrants.'
3
ReplyDeleteA: 'Oh, you mean the reason given for the discharge of the EPU staff?'
B: At least someone listening is still alert.
Sofea, the Chinese and Indians and even our Orang Asli's have gone along because they harbour sentiments about the plights of the Malays. These are good sentiments. Why not build on them as a foundation to progress all, especially the Malays?
It's not a zero-sum game where i win so long as you lose, or more for me by less for you. That sort of thing is so jurassic. When i hear people say that it is bad for all 9A's to be given scholarships because that will benefit the Chinese mostly, i look for a spittoon to empty my bile. Why? because the Chinese can also react by asking whether being born in this country by a different melanine composition means one should be disadvantaged by what is essentially another immigrant? And when there is no reasonable retort, religion next will be used to create another distinction as implicit difference, and when that also fails, grope around for another reason, ad nauseum. People will say enough is enough-lah. In other words, the game's up. Comprende?'
A: 'Why are you so for inter-racial harmony, Sir?'
B: 'Because it's the only way for our Malays to come up. It's the only real way. The other ways only create either pompous zealots or people who have to bury their own conscience in order to whimper out a reason they grab but in their hearts they themselves don't believe.
Let us hold fast to something new in our hearts. Let's imagine the politicians are so enlightened about the goodwill that resides in the hearts of most Malaysians. That feeling of brotherly (and sisterly) empathy for others not of their race. I mean if we can feel for the Palestinians and Iraqi's and Bosnians all the way to the other side of the globe, ta'kan we cannot feel for our own fellow maternity ward neighbours ke?
Now with that in place what can happen? Market operates to global standards. You say the Malays will be left behind? Say a Malay company is trying to do something. It is facing some problems. Its majority Malay staff don't have some specific skills to overcome those problems which will torpedo the company if not solved, causing all to lose their investments, jobs and livelihood. If there be no available Malay expert on hand, get a non-Malay to come in and solve the problem. When the company recovers, the non-Malay sells out and moves on. Similarly, say a Chinese company, ditto a Malay expert. Or an Indian company, et cetera. Why? because the words Malay, nonMalay, Chinese, Indian et cetera no longer exists.
That's the only way the Malays can come up.'
A: 'Sir, i read you but what about the culture, the language, the customs and the habituations peculiar to each of our races?'
B: 'Let me ask you back, Sofea. When you're running a company that sells to the world, the only culture, language, customs and habituations as you say should only be those of your customers. Correct or not?'
A: 'Then our national language will be finished, for a start!'
B: 'How can it be finished when even the weekend Star msm has a Malay pullout, on better quality paper to boot?'
A: 'Then what do we do with the thousands of Malays who graduate out schooled only in the national language?'
B: 'Sofea, let's not kid ourselves you don't know Uitm has a silent pro-english instruction policy. It has been running that for years while the other public uni's have to eat crow trying to teach hard subjects in our national language which don't even have enough references to expand mental horizons. And we want to be an innovative high-income economy in ten years! Fat chance, sayang.'

A: 'Then what do we do with the thousands of Malays who graduate out schooled only in the national language?'

ReplyDeleteHe certainly didn't win because of his toothy smile, Sofea. He won because the rakyat, Malays especially, were happy that Mahathir had resigned.
And frankly, let me tell you the egyptian crocodile is still at it, trying to split the rakyat, to pit one race against another, all the while talking about the cause of the Malays when he has been the cause, even the highest Umno members have admitted, who was behind the balkanization of both our Malaysian society and the state of our economy.
I say this with great contempt because of one thing - we have seen the roles of the Malays in GE12 which had swung so many votes away from Umno and their Barisan members. The Malay youths and many of the Malay middle-class have seen right through the sandiwara and siphonage. Moreover, one can only be enthused they have broken ranks with the Umno zealots to embrace a new Malaysia where they do not distinguish themselves from the non-Malays. After all, Fifa reminds us to say no to racism.
Is all this definitive enough for you, Sofea?'
A: 'And what next, Tun?'
B: 'Make KJ the minister of information and let's move on to modernize the mindset of Umno's leadership. It's going to be just one race, and not about races. Umno needs to run real fast now. It's out of time.'
A: 'Do you think our pet Paulus will be happy with what you've just said, Sir?'
B: 'I think some here would have liked to satay it. Before they do so, they should scenario what will happen otherwise. Umno will lose even more votes by sheer momentum. Perkasa, Utusan and Umno rightwingers will balkanize our society. The enlightened Malays, including the growing liberals community who have seen how the real world works, will vote for the Opposition. And the nonMalays will go on and live their own lives, keeping to themselves and therefore the only vision to help the Malays up will be distanced further.'
A: 'You really believe in the goodwill of men independent of race, Sir?'
B: 'Sofea, Holland lost because they played dirty; Spain won because they played teamwork.'

ReplyDeleteB: 'Sofea, let's not kid ourselves you don't know Uitm has a silent pro-english instruction policy. It has been running that for years while the other public uni's have to eat crow trying to teach hard subjects in our national language which don't even have enough references to expand mental horizons. And we want to be an innovative high-income economy in ten years! Fat chance, sayang.'
A: 'Ok, you've said all this. What other things can Umno do?'
B: 'As i said, broadcast those eight points. Let that be the mandatory first action.
Second, demahathirize the future. I already hear some gnashing of teeth but bear me out for a second.
We all know he is an indian muslim masquerading as a Malay. Let's be clear on that. In fact, the CIA or the russian spies in NY can take a leaf from him on how he had done it.
Yet some still linger on with the belief that without him the Malays would not have come up to where they are or the country developed to this stage.
I say back - more would have been done with lesser pain, lesser cost and higher sustainability. Where has all the money gone? Hold that question in your head. Ask Toyo and Taib for instance where they had gotten their money to build those mansions in Shah Alam and Vancouver.
We must be clear on one thing. When he came on board, the global financial market was a dream. For instance, there were new rulings in the US at that time which encouraged export of capital. Money flowed here. The look-east policy also attracted a lot of japanese, taiwanese and korean investments. The bourse floated and contra was used to leverage the financialization of everything. Exactly the same thing happened in recent times in the west. Because of lack of transparency, checks-and-balances were ignored. Exactly the same thing happened in recent times here and during his watch. He basically fixed up the institutions that had watched over integrity until all had lost their voice which would have protected the future of the rakyat and this country. You don't have to ask Wain or look at the Morgan Stanley report, or interrogate the millions of Malays and others. Just see where all are today. The so-called Malay middle-class and the GLCs he helped create is today without recourse on what to do next when the oil spigots run dry because oil and tax have been the ballast that had shored their feel-good. Except for the elites and their hoardings, it's all gone. Back to square one and hard grinding work. So who to blame? The chinese again?
Let me ask you a simple question and let's see if you can answer it. How did Badawi win so big in GE11 when he did not have any record of good ministerial performance?
NAZRI said Umno should get rid of Perkasa.. hahaha.. if it is against his own Malay people, he is very brave to say that..
ReplyDeleteBut, he is a coward to say 'Get Rid Of Suqiu and Dong Jiao Zong'...
Although the latter bodies ARE chinese version of PERKASA.
Hahahahaha... berani tak bertempat.

ReplyDeleteWhat are you trying to say without having the readers to go through the labyrinth of your posting.
B: 'Sofea, Holland lost because they played dirty; Spain won because they played teamwork.'
ReplyDelete....Holland deserved the defeat for too much believing in the 'Boleh', the White Boleh mentality, and the martyr for their skins that so much so they thought Whites are the only gifted players! The Blacks were left to dribble their own ball and color of black was seen as a taboo to the White Hollanders!
So Paul sanctioned the defeat!
Looked at Spain, the eight Barcelona champions worked eyes-to-eyes, hands-in-hands, legs-to-legs, hence they deserved the trophy!
Hence we saw a phalanx of avatars whom they have created miracles!
Flashed back to the 70's, we saw Santok Singh, Moktar Dahari, Saw Chin Aun the taxi boss and the skinny but versatile like leopard Shukor, didn't they clique like the Espana?
Where is the psyche now?!
Is TDM still believe in only the Malay boleh??!
'Lu tolong gua, gua tolong lu' seems like a better deal! In short - helping and sharing - is more than a footballers' team work!
Learn from the Espana!
Today we are so pre-occupied with talks, talks and more talks. Each trying to outdo the other.
ReplyDeleteWhat is more important are the causes of why our Malaysian economy and performance going rotten being addressed?
The little Napoleans still do what they have been doing. Take what they have been taking and do not care two hoots about the part they played in causing this downward spirals.
Yes, we hear everyday Ibrahim Ali's (officially sanctioned) rubbish and the rest of the country have to defend themselves.
UMNO .. all these while are trying to gain back their support directionless. One day they are going for the Malays and another day in really 180% about turn trying to placate the other races with comments completely contrary to what they said the day before.
Then we have PM and DPM voicing opposing views. ONe trying to project 1Malaysia .. the other 3 Malaysia if possible so that when Malaysians are divided deeply in racial politics UMNO would gain the upper hand .... (Yes , Power in a destroyed Malaysia).
How pathetic all these are going on while the rest of the world moves on.... overtaking our country.
I just wonder if we do still have a country left worth saving.
The nons... are still looking towards (businesses as well our bright young ones) local and manay overseas oppotunities.
The survival of this nation now rests on the Malay majority to decide. Live as a united nation or live in fear in a divided country going nowhere. One should not expect support from the other if one wants to overlord the other. Remember that.
So .. the future rests on the majority Malays which direction they want to go. Ibrahim Ali way... then the other side knows what to do to survive and prosper in the country or outside the country. Lives move on and they do what they have been doing all these 50 years since the NEP started - they vote with their feet and are still doing so in spite of the slogan 1Malaysia( more talk than action) .
Sir,
ReplyDeleteBeing noticed and showing off is two different thing. You just can't force Laila to fell in love with Majnun just like that.
when the Malays interest became their main priority than their personal agenda, then only Umno will be noticed by the Malay as taking a step up to the next level - regardless who is their leader.
KJ is totally out of the question in this issue.
There was a two horse race battle for a ketua bahagian post up north. So both candidates were interviewed. The lawyer candidate spoke of perjuangan untuk bangsa and agama.normal streotype script.
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd candidate was a nasi lemak seller. But he was honest, he said that that he was contesting the post because if he won , that would mean he would get more nasi lemak catering jobs for UMNO functions.hehhehhhe
So you are right about stepping up the next level.
Dato Sak
ReplyDeleteNajib's pussy-footing with Perkasa and Ibrahim Ali is sending dangerous mix signals to the voters and to foreign investors.
This confusion is well captured on this blog:
http://malaysianunplug.blogspot.com/2010/07/confusion-in-umno-saying-hello-and.html
"We don't have for example a special body within UMNO entrusted with strategic thinking. We farm that task out."
ReplyDeleteVery nice, Dato.. keep it coming.
At the very least, PERKASA had formed their very own MPM to define and X the liberal malays.
PERKASA is not anti Chinese or anti Indian but we are anti Malay idiots.
Way to go , Ibrahim Ali... panji salutes you.
A proud PERKASA member.
Tok Sak,
ReplyDeleteDo you really believe people like kj who likes to hold others' balls for ransom is the right kind of leader for the Malays of the 21st century? I couldn't disagree with you more!
anon 16.58,
ReplyDeleteis that all you can say about the topic - asking me about mine?
try again; some sotong oil may help.
anon 16.58,
ReplyDeleteIn a nutshell Walla says Malays are dumbos and have been living on NEP hand outs...
unlike the brutally competitiveness of Gamuda,YTL,VinciTan,Franky,IJM,Ananda,Road Builders etc etc...who without a single sen of subsidy have grown massive brutally competitive businesses.
According to Walla only Chinese can save Malaysia. So,if ur Malay..pls step aside to allow the Chinese to take the dance floor.
anon 09.40,
ReplyDeleteroadbuilders is not doing that well, as you nicely omit to know in order to make your point by reverse psychology.
and if i can say spain won by teamwork, what makes you so brave to spin that walla said only chinese can save malaysia?
where exactly did i (a) say, (b) imply, (c) hint, such things?
No, only mahathir's daim can save malaysia, anon 09.40. With the help of perkasa and others such as you, he will fund more airasia's.
yes?
Try writing your own thoughts unless upbringing has been deficient.
and don't take to heart my tone these few comments; i'm just trying to debug my blogger.com comment function; that explains the repeat.
thanks Mr walla...not being a chinese..my upbringing not as good..so can't express myself as well.
ReplyDeleteHowever..NEP have benefited Chinese more then Malays. If you want the data please provide me data to the contrary.
And on your depth of knowledge,in spite of what u try to potray >>Road Builders was taken over by IJM so one can only measure to period before the takeover >>and it won lots of direct nego jobs, concessions (Besraya,NPE,Kuantan Port) and have few LOIs suchas Kemaman Port,Besraya extension etc..You tell me that they're not doing well.
And ponder for a minute...Mr Kuok (who got his start in Msia back in the old days)sold his sugar biz in Msia to Felda..cos he said he wanted to be out of sugar biz..so did he?And presumeably thats NEP too?
walla is typical chinese who hides behind the facade of a reasonable man..
ReplyDeleteNEP WAS never meant to be HAND OUTS.It was an exercise in capacity building..
It was sidetracked and robbed by corrupt Bumi politicians working in cahoots with the more established NonBumi businessmen.Thru the years,it became more and more abused...
The corrupt Bumis obviously, with little experience/expertise was easily hoodwinked by their experienced partners eg a Ferrari in exchange for RM 300 mil contract?
The really capable Bumis was slogging away much like the other decent nonBumis.
So..continue NEP..as a capacity building exercise..but don't let them notti boys corrupt it again.
walla..thats the real issue..not cos ur Chinese. OK?
2/2
ReplyDeleteIf one method fails, try another. The malays have been trying the same method over and over again without success. The perkasa's and so on are the new group, after the last batch of umno youth's, who are now repeating the same message that the malays should continue to try the same method.
Do you now understand what i have written?
Change the method. Learn to cooperate. See the chinese and others as better assets to the country than the oil that He gave which is now gone.
He gave the oil to give a start only. Now that it is almost gone, what is the next asset? A good friend. A fellow citizen.
Don't take anything that is critical of the Malays as being critical of their survival. If a father criticises a son for screwing up his own life, will you say the father is being unreasonable behind a facade? What facade is that if the son comes from the father?
What i want to see is the chinese helping the malays complete their capacity-building.
But that is not going to happen if the perkasa's and so on come again to lambast the chinese and others.
Would you if you are a chinese?
I hate talking about race. I helped more Mara students than you can count your years. I sat in front of ministers and even at a sofa overlooking the office of Mahathir only to see his Umno kaki's walking in and out carrying plans with faces grinning with excitement that they will soon be getting big contracts. If you had also made the bids, would you not have been angry at what was happening right there and then - direct award despite tender?
So don't try to talk to me about ali-baba contract favoring the chinese in the end, and therefore the chinese are to blame for the malays failing.
No, the malays fell on their own swords of their own making, and then got up to hurl abuse at the chinese.
Which is why the votes swung so much in GE12.
If you want a bigger repeat of that, continue to act aggrieved and continue to blame the chinese.
And me, chinese/indian/asli? Better go ask Paul the octopus.
i have to go to another blog and start killing someone.
As a last footnote, when i started writing in this blog, i told another friend that i knew i was walking into a lion's den. What i am surprised is that i have been well-received. Because people have found me reasonable. Besides carrying for the poor Malays (thinking about batik, shared services, movie-making etc. as doables for the malays...and still thinking hard).
Being reasonable has always been my trademark. Perhaps to avoid writing such long explanations, i should start kickin' asses instead.
Read my posts very carefully. Only Paul has equaled my accuracy in everything i have written. That's why Putrajaya has been doing what i have suggested. They know i know i am right about the rakyat and national situation. I have seen enough of the world and life.
Good luck.
anon 14.05/.18,
ReplyDelete'walla is typical chinese who hides behind the facade of a reasonable man..'
- are you suggesting that typical chinese without facades are unreasonable men?
'NEP WAS never meant to be HAND OUTS.It was an exercise in capacity building..'
- never meant to be and actually being are two different things; which has it been?
You don't read my posts carefully. In an earlier one, i had suggested that the big contractors all go do overseas jobs and leave the new ones for the smaller ones; at most the big ones should only offer management services and therefore take a minimum cut on each big contract otherwise the small companies won't get the chance to come up.
Now if that's not about helping the local bumi contractors build up their capacity, what then was i suggesting?
You and i and everyone reading in know how the NEP was hijacked. I had said that. When something is said to have been hijacked, it must have been something else. I had said the NEP had noble intents. So you can conclude i already knew it was to help our Malays build capacity.
Therefore how can you write to presume i think otherwise, what more on the presumption that i am chinese as if generalizing chinese as typically unreasonable would save your arguments.
Why am i so testy? I am so testy because i see history repeating the same mistakes for the Malays. The policies were meant to be short-term and to help. They became long-term, endless in fact, and they were hijacked to make some rich and to close off opportunities for others to come up using their new skills. In other words, the Malays having buried the future of their own in one grave, saved space and buried some more of their own on top of the earlier ones - in the same grave.
The perkasa's and other Malay zealots are using the same mahathirian method to scare the general Malay folks into thinking their future is being threatened by the Chinese, and therefore these folks should quickly run to Umno so that it can protect their interests and future.
But what Umno of past has only done is to create an elite group that continues to prosper at the expense of other Malays and then blame the chinese for being too prosperous by their own brains and brawns.
And you are adding to that delusion and scheme.
What is going to happen next regardless of walla or anon is that the chinese will see all the same crap happening again and then they will keep even more to themselves when under a proper 1Malaysia or 1Muhibbah or 1Anything environment, the Malays can come up and build their capacity helped by the chinese.
It's like this. The malay trainee is trying to pull out the aircond condenser from the boot. He tries and tries but it won't come out. His chinese supervisor sees him in trouble, walks over, puts one hand under the condenser, and then push it up.
Paul is really walla..
ReplyDeletewho hobnobs with Ministers & Prime Ministers..
and instructs them on the way forward.
And they listen to him...
Delusions of grandeur?or are our leaders scraping the bottom of the barrel?
'Delusions of grandeur?or are our leaders scraping the bottom of the barrel?'
ReplyDeleteyour sarcasm is noted - it is also misplaced and that shows the prejudice in your head; what else isn't there in it?
walla doesn't exist on an IC so when i wrote Putrajaya has been doing what i have suggested, it has been doing what i have written in blogs as walla.
really, if in trying to help enrich the discourse on how to improve this country can only attract content-empty ad-hominem flamebaiters like anon 16.07, the Malay race might as well be finished, and your remark reflects how that can happen.
seriously, i haven't seen a single smart comment from some of the anon's in this blog.
maybe my absence is overdue, sak; since dec'08 it has been.
wasted my time and effort here.
