Dealing with PERKASA- which is the UMNO way?
Ibrahim Ali had his open house for Hari Raya at the Pasir Mas Railway Station. He is a freight train that runs over UMNO's gravy train or anything that stands in its path. . Ibrahim Ali is offering Malays an inexhaustible resource- emotional comfort while UMNO hasn't got enough gravy to distribute around anymore.
There is one BIG problem. The top man is sending ambiguous messages. He has asked his lieutenants to speak against what Perkasa stands for. He has asked his people to distance themselves and UMNO from Perkasa. He has even toyed with the idea, supplied by his pandering dogs of apple polishers no doubt, of setting up rival NGOs to smother the fire of Perkasa.
Problem: if he has done so, then it behooves him to give unqualified and absolute support to his people by saying clearly what he thinks of Perkasa. Instead we see him pussyfooting by saying we are not at war with Perkasa. They are fighting for Malay interests which we are also doing. But we are asking them to allow us to fight it our way….alamak….
UMNO is asking Perkasa's approval? If we can't give unequivocal and undivided support to our troops, then don't say anything against Perkasa. We will look even more stupid in the near future, if we were to later bend over to ask Ibrahim Ali and Perkasa to support us. And I predict we will do so in future.
On the other hand there is a silver lining too. So far only the so so smooth operator the UMNO secgen and UMNO's own Wyatt Earp Nazri Aziz have come with guns blazing. UMNO's Ketua Pemuda has fought battles with Ibrahim Ali and Perkasa very early on and has not also received unequivocal support from other senior UMNO leaders.
I repeat- if we are not willing to state clearly where we stand on this issue, don't say anything. The UMNO president is circumspect about this too. He is walking gingerly. I'll let others use harsher terms.
There is only one way to settle the issue UMNO has with Perkasa. The latter is no political party. It is an NGO, led by the political demagogue Ibrahim Ali. It has been able to get under the skin of UMNO and causing paranoia among UMNO people.
The solution is to call a snap election. That is the way to settle the issue. The main problem with UMNO as I see it, is the inability of the UMNO leadership to prevail over Perkasa with an alternative story to tell Malays, UMNO people and ultimately the Malaysian rakyat. The inability is telling on the quality of our leadership. Let me be more direct- our leadership is stupid, scared or doesn't know what's happening. Therefore it cannot give answers to the message Perkasa is bringing.
What is it that UMNO can offer that distinguishes itself from NGO Perkasa? UMNO can provide Malay leadership as opposed to Perkasa which is providing Malay supremacist agendas. Leadership is responsibility. Supremacist ideas are reckless.
What UMNO hasn't done is to argue that its providing leadership. Why hasn't it done that? Because most of its members and sadly most of its leadership are not bright people. I don't mean not bright in the sense of being a stupid or dullard but not bright as in the inability to articulate a compelling and reasoned agenda. So we end up with a situation, where the majority of the not so bright UMNO leadership and the likewise majority UMNO members, while frothing in the mouth shouting support for Dato Najib are actually leaning towards the simple but emotionally attractive political recipe of Perkasa.
Here is the reason why I say the UMNO leadership is not so bright. The arguments for Malay leadership is indirect and requires reasoned and well thought out analysis. It is an indirect argument. The argument for Malay supremacy is emotional and primal and is also direct. Between the rational and emotional sides of the human brain, the emotional side is more developed. Ibrahim Ali has found an emotional niche while the UMNO leadership either through its stupidity, cowardice and ignorance cannot overcome that emotional assault.
I find parallels of the above in Milton Friedman's introduction to FA Hayeks' The Road to Serfdom.
Surely that is one answer to the perennial mystery of why collectivism, with its demonstrated record of producing tyranny and misery is so widely regarded as superior to individualism, with its demonstrated record of producing freedom and plenty. The argument for collectivism is simple if false; it's an immediate emotional argument. The argument for individualism is subtle and sophisticated; it is an indirect argument.
Hence the equivalent of dropping an emotional atomic bomb that can decimate the messages of Ibrahim Ali's Perkasa is to have a snap election. That would be the mother of all emotional arguments. Malays are spiked up for a general elections, so let's give them one to deliver the blow to Perkasa.
Yes, Dato Najib should call for a snap election. If only to remove all the deadwood in his cabinet. This is to allow him build a new team from scratch. He needs to have a team who shares his vision and which is able to enthuse articulate and implement his vision.
At the moment, his cabinet is full of court jesters and clowns. His party? So many not bright people.
What he needs to do now, is to cross the names in the cabinet who he thinks are no longer useful or functional. Those who don't understand much less articulate what 1 Malaysia is all about. Those who don't enthuse about the NEM. Those blatantly implicated in corruption and abuse of power. those lazy bums who are mentally challenged.
This should be almost all the names he has in the cabinet especially those from UMNO.
Because none of his cabinet members can counter argue what Perkasa is bringing on the plate to the table. The way to counter PERKASA is not to belittle it as an organization of has beens, or by saying Ibrahim Ali is a froggie. Dato Najib should replace the UMNO secgen and leave out Nazri Aziz in a future cabinet. IFF UMNO is still in control, that is.

a bit like burning the net..to kill a mosquito?
sure, try sleeping with ONE mosquito in the net.
A belated Selamat Hari Raya to Dato' and family.
I agree with what Dato' said. The antidote is a snap election. Pekasa is confusing not only Malays but with all Malaysians with its anti-Malaysia stand. Is Ibrahim Ali a patriot? If he is, he should be championing the grievances of every Malaysian irrespective of race or religion.
He thinks, he can threaten the Malays with his doomsday prediction. He is wrong. The Malays of today are very knowledgeable and smarter. They are realistic and pragmatic in outlook unlike forty seven years ago. This is a fact and Perkasa cannot deny it.
I don’t understand why we need to set apart the two: UMNO and Perkasa, while I think most people see them as one. Collectivism and individualism are co-dependent, the shift between the two is merely to strike a balance, or in the Malaysia context, to win election.
S46 didn’t succeed much utilized the emotional approach, and PKR would never emulate the same knowing what S46 went through, and work itself basing on rational outlook. UMNO has been playing the emotional game for half a century and realize that there is a swing of voters mind during 308, and have limited choice but outsources the emotional part. They now try to offer a more professional and leadership stance, with the hope to secure both: the emotional and rational base type of voters.
In my view, it is a stage play acted upon by clown, is that necessary to illustrate this comical drama through Hayeks philosophy?
HuaYong
hua yong,
pls read carefully- i said in Milton Friedman's introduction. not Hayek's. the passages illustrate the similarities in arguing the ideas put forth by perkasa and UMNO.
Dear Sakmongkol
“The arguments for Malay leadership is indirect and requires reasoned and well thought out analysis. It is an indirect argument. The argument for Malay supremacy is emotional and primal and is also direct. Between the rational and emotional sides of the human brain, the emotional side is more developed”.
Yes, that is the nub of the matter concerning Malay leadership. Will a clean, charismatic and moderate leader emerge within UNMO to lead the Malays forward, or will demagogues like Ibrahim Ali set their future back?
Because of the multi-racial and multi-cultural nature of this country, only a moderate Malay leader can find common ground with other moderate non-Malay leaders to rule this country. Long-term economic development and workable affirmative action programmes do require a visionary leader that the people can believe in. He cannot produce magic in the short-term. So he must have a big reservoir of goodwill that will sustain him whilst the economic and affirmative programmes gather strength and show results. Emotions just get in the way.
For a short time I thought Dr M was that man, but after 22 futile years, he failed to take the Malays to the Promised Land. It looks like things must get worse before they get better. There has to be a destruction of the current political structures, followed by a realignment of political forces. We might be watching a train wreck in slow motion.
Oh no, the game plan is not as simple as just between UMNO or Perkasa. In fact, behind the scene, it's boils to a wayang kulit powerplay between Mamak Mahathir and UMNO. Nobody can deny who is the sponsor behind Perkasa.
This Mamak Mahathir is taking a free ride on the back of the stupidity of the Malays. From the day of our 1st PM until to this very day, the Mamak has being tormenting the Malays leadership without fail. He is not supporting of any Malays who does not adhere to his ideologies and his thinkings.
Unless the Malays see thru his agenda, he will leave a legacy that will continue to haunt the spirit and the conscience of the Malays themselves.
Dato', typical PM of wayang kulit and he still thinks that he is best suited to play the role of the "tukang karut".
He dare not go for snap election as he knows that will be the end of him and it will even ended up his presidency before he declares for a snap election. The battle will be fought within the UMNO turf and it will be a Pyrrhic victory.
So, he has to change... walk the talk and have guts to lead or otherwise just hand over to TDM to sort thing out and continue the slum in Malay leaders.
Just fancy your suggestion try to sleep with ONE mosquito in the net. But there is one backdoor minister who look alike the MOPIKO man.... hahahahaha Dato' you are keeping the fire burning!!!
The clock is ticking and let us start counting the fall of either PERKASA or UMNO or PAKATAN.
Waiting for PM to hit at Brahing and TDM and will he? Ayo yo you bet sir....
We can harp on and on about UMno and BN lack of direction, but in the absence of strong leadership, we Malaysians have been drifting aimlessly since PakLah's time while our contry's riches have been continously plundered.
There is no viable alternative. PR is a loosely cobbled arrangement which will flay open anytime without any coherent national platform.
Both sides have not been providing leadership nor coherent vision and direction for our country.
Please somebody, pick up the gauntlet - give us a third Force -we want a middle Malaysia -free from any skeletons/ legacy so that we can move confidently ahead together as a competitive and proud nation as one!
Dato',
Your writing resonates with my take of the current leadership of UMNO. I consider the current lineup as donkeys. Pak Kadir, at the Scribe blog used to censor my comments when I called the Pak Menteri Keldai. Now, he no longer do that because that is the reality of it. We have leaders who brays over nothing, stubborn in their outlook and don't use their brains.
In the corporate world, we keep training the executives and management in subject matters like leadership model. Our UMNO leaders do not even fulfill half of the leadership model requirements and yet they are Ministers. Why? That shows "we" as in voters are in someway stupid enough to vote these people in.
I would do excercises on leadership and use our current Pak Menteri as examples for the above. The end of the day I would ask the participants why are we collectively allowing this to happen? Very tricky questions as a lot of our "Malays" refuse to answer this question because the reality is we allow stupid people because "periuk nasi" punya pasal.
The reality is we are suppressing the leadership of our own people in many spheres of our lives. Thus the lack of leadership at political level. Look at the leadership at our GLCs...they are mostly political appointees or approved. Look at our Civil Service, if you are vocal against the Minister or your Head of Department, there goes your promotion. Look at our schools....same. Look at our University....same.
Look, I may personally not like the current CEO or MD of the GLCs I deal with because I consider them kaki bodek and lack of integrity and leadership skills. Reality check, I still have to bear and grin because...nak cari makan......
Catch 22 situation....That is why my take is to get rid of the current leadership and find a grass root dark horse leader who has the ability to undertake the responsibility and support this person and ensure he is surrounded by able generals and lieutenants as well as advisors.
Keturunan Jebat.
In launching 1Malaysia, he made four mistakes.
First, he failed to set proper expectations. He did not say what he wants to see achieved, what are the credible plans to realize the achievements, and who will be accountable for achieving.
It could be the failure to define requirements came down to anxiety - not wanting to set too high a standard at risk of failure which would open his administration and the program to calumny.
Second mistake was to excuse subordinates from pursuing the overall goals. His ministers were not roped in sufficiently to make 1Malaysia their own burning platform as well so that they tended to push their own portfolio activation of the program upwards where the drive got clogged. There wasn't a 1Malaysia By Ministry extension.
The third mistake was to collude with internal staff experts and external advisors who would design and deliver but not assume responsibility for outcome. This is less the problem with such idea generators than the legacy of an administration which has deprived itself of the best minds for nation-building at the critical juncture when their types of skills are much needed and would have been sharper and more relevant if given legacial time to cultivate the political realities of the land.
The end result is 1Malaysia was seen as an externally generated program without the involvement from board to field by those who would be expected to articulate it from the respective perspectives of their own portfolios.
The fourth mistake was not making complete preparations of the program before launching. People tend to believe that they are already doing the best with their current resources. So that if something new is to be launched, they will think new resources will be required. This means they will ignore the first question - how the present structure and resources can be harnessed to run the program. The result is further disenfranchisement of the present organization from the new program.
Conclusion - the program was implemented without the spirit of voluntarism, the details of deliverables and the heart of ownership. No one owned it, cared enough about it or braved resistance to defend it.
It started to look like jack sparrow, malaysian style.
Nevertheless, Najib and Co. must prevail and stay the course. Why? Because history will later show that this was the only opening where Umno could have made a difference by creating out of the ashes the phoenix of the Malaysian Spirit.
The strategy is not to out-perkasa Mahathir Mohamad, Ibrahim Ali or Ahmad Ismail. It is to re-ennoble the hearts and minds of all Malaysians to the plurality, diversity and humanity already inherent in them from being born on a land which has flourished over half a century of mutual understanding despite the fractious attempts at monoracism.
Miss this one opening and it will not come again. The center of gravity will move decisively to the Opposition.
Looking at things as they are unraveling, perhaps that will be a fitting denouement of this nation's evolution.
Najib and Co. should stay the course. Because it is better to lose the dreams of a race but win the privilege of doing the right things for all, thereby achieving the end-objective of the dreams, however by the more noble route.

Q: “Let me ask a question about the outside world a little bit. Singapore is a great success story even though people criticize this and that. When you look back, you can be proud of what you’ve done and I assume you are. Are there things that you regret, things that you wished you could achieve that you couldn’t?”
Mr Lee: “Well, first I regret having been turfed out of Malaysia. I think if the Tunku had kept us together, what we did in Singapore, had Malaysia accepted a multiracial base for their society, much of what we’ve achieved in Singapore would be achieved in Malaysia. But not as much because it’s a much broader base. We would have improved inter-racial relations and an improved holistic situation. Now we have a very polarized Malaysia, Malays, Chinese and Indians in separate schools, living separate lives and not really getting on with one another. You read them. That’s bad for us as close neighbours.”
it's scary to think that the malay world (or more correctly "UMNO malay world") is held to ransom by a clown.
it shows just how dismal and low umno has become. i truly wish umno just give up the ghost.
Dato',
UMNO = Backdoor PERKASA
PERKASA = Backdoor UMNO
The "Executor" is Ib Ali, to do the "Dirty Work"...
Therefore he has MORE Guts than any of the present UMNO President & Political Leaders (he has less grey matter ofcourse, but who cares!)
They are all the Two sides of the same coin!
Would the present UMNO President & Political Leaders have the "Orbs/Kejantanan" to be Honest, Sincere & Repentant to God Almighty & towards His Beings/Makhluk even when they did their Ibadah Berpuasa & Takbir sembahyang Sunat Hari Raya?
Would they have the "Orbs/Kejantanan" to tell their "APNO Masters" to cancel their recently renewed contract, etc, etc etc...
Towards the "DIVIDE & RULE" Agenda...
To DO what is "Right" for this Nation & its Citizens...
To LET the Citizens' DECIDE their "OWN Destiny"
I doubt it very much...with all the "Hidden Skeletons" that abound (which even the Whole World are aware of!) that they are still carrying...
With all the "Musuh Dalam Selimut" WITHIN UMNO with their $$$ Agenda...
Anyone suggesting any "Reasonable Solutions" are considered "Enemies of Ketuanan/UMNO!"
They could "Detonate" at any time & "Disintegrate UMNO & BN" in no time!
UMNO has been & is on AutoPilot Self-Destruct Final Mode Path"...
You be the judge.
Cheers.
Najib wont go for snap election as long as Anwar Ibrahim still roaming freely on the street.
Now his sidekick, ex IGP is out of office, Musa Musang Hassan. So will the new IGP will be as dirty as Musang? He looks like a decent man. Hope he will be impartial and wont use Police to help UMNO bully PR as it was under Musang.
Left only AG Khalwat. He havent talked / deny about his fat khalwat girl that sleeps with him in overseas.
Musang lost his IGP extension after Najib found out that Saiful's ass specimen was of his own sperm, not Anwar's 1998 sperm as what RPK revealed. Anyway, saiful bukhari is a bapok, and I do think Bapoks can do wonder.....hahahah
hey schenker,
remember what lee said when he picked goh ,when the most able minister after lee to run singapore, was an indian(can't remember his name) .he said something like the chinese majority is not ready for a non chinese prime minister.
so,please don't bring lee the XXXXXX during the 60s to 90s .because lee is a hpocrite of the first class order, that slimy git!
I am no fan of Perkasa. But I wonder why UMNO announced distancing itself from Perkasa on the eve of the Eid.
Obviously it's at the pressure of MCA and MIC.
Tun M is right. It's a wrong move.
UMNO may lose the elections because it wull lose the votes of the Malays who support Perkasa.
At this juncture, Najib cannot afford to lose any votes even if it is from Perkasa.
He should be courting votes not hurting the people who will vote for him.
Najib is not sure of getting votes from MCA or MIC members.
Perkasa is a moderate party unlike Hindraf or Suqiu.
Whay are people so scared of Ibrahim Ali??
Betultu Dato, saya rasa Najib manyak confused sebabtu Najib so indecisive and not affirmative at all, play safe macam tak de prinsip dan pegangan langsung.
In conclusion, Najib has lost control of his lieutenants, macam PL masa hari hari terakhirnya. Sekurang kurang nya TSMY rightly said that anybody can form any racebased organisation since Malaysia is a free country. Silap silap nanti semua Persatuan anak anak Bugis, Jawa, Banjar dll pun kena banned.
Sini kena bomb sana kena bomb, why are we challenging the 'right's'???
If Ib wannts to run the country say la...put everything on the plate.Gentlemen comes with gloves..you have the crue make it stick..agenda??!!make it stick..then challenge...vote???what say you Ib Ali??
Assallamu'alaikum Dato,
Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Fitri to you and your beloved family. Again I am most impressed with your writing/posting. I still truly believe there are many of us who are on the same wavelength as you are, wanting in fact begging for fairness and equality for all MALAYSIANS!! I have posted comments on various postings with regard to Ibrahim Ali and PERKASA. As much as I would want and love to 'maki-hamun' both this individual and so called 'NGO' I don't intend to. I wish not to degrade myself to his or it's level of intelligence. His ignorance of the intelligence of many if not most of my Malay brothers and sisters will indeed be his undoing.
Snap election or not BN/UMNO are indeed in dire straits with it's action or inaction. Our beloved country rich with natural resources and devoid of any major climate catastrophes is slowly being destroyed and bled dry by these so called 'leaders' who are both without vision or ambition. For too long we the Rakyat have been taken for a ride, lied to and led to believe that all is well. While the ruling elite enrich themselves, their families and cronies. What of the simple man/woman on the street?? What of us simple Malaysians who have struggled to eke out a decent living? We are now faced with increasing costs on all fronts.
Dato' I truly believe that many of us simple Malaysians will do the right thing when the time comes. If not for ourselves we will do it for the sake of our children and grandchildren. No one can ever tell me to 'balik kampung' to China!! Whoever dares to I will have words with them face to face. This is my home, Malaysia is my home and I am Malaysian first and foremost and mighty proud of it!!! I have served my country in the armed forces and sacrificed my life on numerous occasions. I will never ever leave my HOME my Country!! I will fight for it because I love my country and I'm sure there are many who are like me. Alone both you and me are powerless but I will do my share in engaging others like me to do the right thing for the sake and future of our country. Assallamu'alaikum Dato'
What an irony. Ibrahim Ali is getting stronger. Najib is seen as getting weak with his indecisiveness and play safe mode with regard to Perkasa.
Perkasa turned two on Sept 12. On Sept 25, it is organizing a big do in Pasir Mas with none other than Tun M officiating it.
The question now being asked is Tengku Adnan speaking in his personal capacity or on behalf of UMNO.
We dont really see outright condemnation of Perkasa by our beloved PM.
UMNO should come out in the open stating that no one should be scared of Perkasa since it is a harmless NGO.
It is not hantu jembalang, unlike other extremist factions like Hindraf, Suquiu or Al-Maunah.
You all have forgoten PAS call to Tunku to take away Chinese land when we got our Independence.
In the Pahang parlance "parohlah auk Najib, kalo auk nak bunuh Perkasa.
"Koin sokong Perkasa sebab dia nampok lebih Melayu daghi UMNO." so said many of the Pahang kampung folks.
In hindsight I see the slight to Perkasa is just an outward show to please Gerakan. MCA and MIC.
Cakap lain, buat lain.
Quite Despair,
Yo give MIC & MCA too much credit if you think they can make Najib dump Perkasa.
Anyway, if you can perform better than Najib, by all means run for UMNO president and show them how it should be done. Cakap2 disini tak guna. Put your money where your mouth is.
If PERKASA forms a political party, I'll give my vote to its candidate anytime. PERKASA is right-wing and I've given my vote to UMNO in previous elections which in my opinion is right-wing anyway, but proven not to be successful in a right-wing perspective. So, come next election PERKASA will get my vote. You da man Brehin.
Quiet despair mention about PAS leaders from 1950s....hahahahha....they are long gone laaa.....does PAS ask cina balik cina today ?? No... Does UMNO do it? Yes.
The dominant partner in this government is noted to have only the support of a third or slightly more of the Malays which is about 20pc of the population. Hence it can only be a minority government. No wonder it looks weak and chaotic. And it is trying to impose its will on the other 4/5 of the people by all sorts of sick means. Things seem in a sorry state. You suggest having snap polls. Maybe it helps but it may again result in a minority govt.
Oh my Sak
My posting on 12.53 was a wrong address.
It's supposed to be on your posting today.
