Our Kings are the Fountainhead of Justice. Protect us O Kings.

HRH Raja Nazrin one day gave a talk in Singapore. One Singaporean attendee asked him two questions. Doctor Nazrin ( he holds a PhD from Harvard) – (1) what is the future of the monarchy in Malaysia and (2) how have they played the role of constitutional monarchs in Malaysia.
Dr Nazrin as he was referred to then, answered. Since you asked 2 questions, I shall answer the second one first. The position of the Malay rulers as constitutional monarchs is well laid out in the Malaysian constitution. Unfortunately there are some among the monarchs who behaved like absolute rulers.
From there I can answer the first question. The future of the monarchy in Malaysia depends on the conduct and performance of the rulers. He then continued; I remember as a kid, I heard the same question answered by our venerable Tunku Abdu Rahman himself a scion of the Kedah Royal House. Tunku said the same thing- the future of the monarchy depends on their conduct. Otherwise I am afraid we will have Raja Kelawar and Raja lekok eventually.
Otherwise we will have only the King of Hearts and King of Spades.
I hope our Malay rulers heed the voice of the majority who don’t have the courage to say things openly. Maybe they don’t like to hear this- but not few rejected the idea that their destiny depend on the Malay rulers.
Our Kings are the fountainhead of Justice. Our kings have sworn to protect us, not protect UMNO leaders or UMNO. Do not allow the government of imperial Najib use the sedition act to subjugate the people. In this internet age no one can be silenced.
The Police should remain professional and be implementers of civil peace and executioner of just laws. They should not be a willing and compliant participant to the oppression carried out by a bewildered government led by a not so clever PM.
One day, a group of oil and gas engineers met up in a meeting. The group includes foreign engineers. The chairman of the meeting announced- we are pleased to announce that our colleague from Malaysia, Mr Najib is also here. But please don’t worry- this is the clever Najib. .
The feudal minded among the Malays should accept this. Ours is a constitutional monarch. No one is asking for the abolition of the monarchy. When we created special court for them, we acknowledge both their shortcomings and exalted stature and that is why we created special courts for them. I don’t have to lecture these people on the meaning of the concept of constitutional monarch.
Those of us who believe firmly in limited monarchy are not at all intimidated by the congregation of people in Selangor pompously proclaiming their undying loyalty to the king. There is their business and their own funeral. They want to be absolute royalist let them be. The rest of us are contented with just being constitutional monarchy but loyal nevertheless.
We won’t hold anything against you for being zombied out and believing that non-compliance with a royal decree means durhaka. The concept of durhaka has no meaning in law- it is not a crime. It had meaning only under the regime of absolute monarchs during whose time, people of similar line of thinking like the ones congregating to proclaim their undying loyalty, ingratiated themselves to absolute rulers to suppress the toiling masses. Those days are gone my friend.

  3. During the fight against Malayan Union, the Malays, for lack of real political and other capital, fell back on the Monarchy as a symbol to fight for their rights - they really had nothing else to turn to..

So the truth is the relationship between Malays and the ruler is a matter of co-dependencies. Their relavance also a symbol of dependencies and weakness of the Malay. The wrap it all up in show and packaging but in the end, its dependencies and weakness.

  5. In time we will all acknowledge that you are the lone voice, speaking without fear or favor regarding the Sultan's role as a constitutional ruler. Unfortunately the other so called Malay leaders are busy goreng their own kuih pisang. So it is looking like absolute monarchy is making a come back. This might be good for some in the short run.
Unfortunately for all who love the "Sultan", this victory might be the beginning of the end....

    a. Oversized Federal Cabinet- Ministers and Deputies
    b.13 State Chief Ministers& Excos
    c.2.0 Millions of Civil Servants
d.4 million legal and Illegal immigrants
    e.9 monarchs
the GST will never be enough unless there is some downsizing.

    The truth fact of this wholesale degrading of the Melayu psyche lies in this simple phrase;

#1: The fact that most people are too stupid to know how dumb they really are is the fabric holding our society together.

U should read more about Pendita Zaaba’s writings on social behavior of the Malays!

They still hold truth till this day! Indicating that the Melayu as a whole is stagnating in a feudalistic thinking in a modern world!

    How sad!!!!!

  10. Anon 14:06 comment extremely racist and completely wrong. The Malays woke up a long time ago.
Kelantan has been the only consistently anti-BN state. It has resisted bribes and threats from UMNO for many decades.
The Malays have been majority voting against UMNO since 1999 in GEs as well. It was the Chinese who backed Tun Mahathir in 1999 against Anwar and kept BN in power. DAP was nearly wipped out then. It was Chinese Businesses that thrived during the Mahathir years and backed him consistently.
As for Malay loyalty to their Sultans - it is no different to the British and European loyalties to their Monarch or even closer to home the Thais.
Malays have been shaping this country for a long long time and will continue to do so.

  12. Dato, you have this special knack of uncomplicating the complicated. The way Dr M does. A really good article and cuts away the layers of self-delusion, in fact these self-delusions come about because people are afraid of facing and seeing the truth.

  14. I still do not understand Dato... why educated and well-informed Malays who also have the influence, remain quiet to all the abuses and bad happenings in this country created by their fellow brothers in UMNO... they prefer to carry on as though everything is fine and just keep to their golf and hailam mee...

Kenapa kamu ni nak tampar muka Dato Sak?

  16. Dato, The Star's headline today attributing to the PAS President, Hadi: They can buzz off.
This seem to be really arrogant. Why is he challenging PAS members?
All the u-turns and round-about turns and conflicting statements on the PAS appointees are leading to a maze of no return. Surely PAS has someone else that can take over from the current head honcho and clean up, with the right calibre to be a respected state and national leader.
It is a sign of weakness to fall back on Tok Nik Aziz for support whenever the ground is shaky. Come on, this old man is virtually out of politics, so leave him in peace to enjoy his retirement.

  17. Dato, to the many opinions expressed here I would like to add my own. It is a very simple statement that merely comprises four words.

    "Tiada rakyat, tiada raja."

    Thank you.

  18. What brought on this mess? Was this when current MB did not follow convention by resigning as soon as he lost support of his assemblymen? Bad or good example to the MBs in other states, take your pick.
