Terima Kasih Pengundi Raub dan Rakyat Malaysia

I am having trouble finishing up this short piece. Congratulatory messages have been coming to my phone nonstop. I want to thank everyone through this short article.
It is now official. I have won the Raub Parliamentary seat with a majority of 2814 votes. I wish to thank the DAP leadership for placing their trust and faith in me.
I want to thank all my supporters of all races who have voted me in. I shall honour that trust by becoming a worthy MP for Raub and speak without fear or favour. I would also like to thank all my donors and contributors who have made it less painful for me to conduct the political warfare.
I have had only about two weeks to reset the minds of the rural folks in Raub. But in all of the voting wards, I have scored vast improvements. I am confident within a year; the Malays will warm up to me.  As for he Chinese in Raub, it’s like what the PM said- a Chinese Tsunami.
We had to wait anxiously for the results to be official. The cause for the delay was an innocent mistake by the Ketua Tempat Mengundi. He had inadvertently left an important document ( Borang 14) – a summary of the results signed and endorsed by the officers at the voting centre in a ballot box. Without that document, the returning officer cannot validate the results nor announced it. The ketua tempat mengundi(KTM) has already gone back to his kampong somewhere in Jerantut. The police had to fetch him in the dead of the night so that he can open up the ballot box and retrieve the document.
It was done at around 3 am in last night.
This is just a start to a duty and responsibility to serve my constituency to the best of my ability. I hope to earn a deserving judgment from the people of Raub. Let us work together to make Raub and this country a place with a better future.

  4. Salam Dato' - congratulations on your win - it is a win for rakyat a road ahead of the democratization of the minds of the Malays. Though we are sad that BN is still ruling the nation we should not give up - the Malays has be to be educated and move from the mindset of the jaguh kampung. I hope racial politics will not persist - let us all work hard to get a level playing both for economy and politics. Congratulations and do have a good rest.

  6. Tahniah Dato'... Tapi saya kecewa dengan PAS. Dato' tolong bagitahu pada pemimpin PAS tu, muhasabah lah diri.... check balik kenapa Kedah kalah? Camana rakyat tak meluat kalau MB berlagak samseng? Punyalah degil tak nak ikut keputusan parti, tengok apa dah jadi??? Kalau diorang ni askar yang pergi bertempur atau berperang, confirm bersusun keranda tunggu nak disemadikan...

  8. Dear Yang Berhormat,
    Congratulation on your victory.
I have been following you blog for many years but this is the first time I am making a comment.

The implication of the GE 13 results has shown that the Malaysian are divided into 2 main groups. One group who wants a change into a truly " Bangsa Malaysia" comprising maily the Chinese and the other group which wants maintain the status quo as previously comprising mainly the Malays .

It is sad that such polarization is occurring along racial lines.

The BN government will continue its race based policies and this will divide the population further.

It is good that you have stood under the the DAP banner and won.
It is up to you to show that DAP is for all Malaysian and not just the Chinese.

As for PAS, unless it moderates it's view it will continue to loose support among the mainstream population.

PKR is to much personality based.
Without Anwar it will break up.
The good news is,it has many new and young leaders. Anwar must allow this 2nd generation of leaders to take over the party and lead it.

Till then DAP has to take the lead and fight for all Malaysians.
Malaysians must realize that we cannot continue along race based politics anymore.

  10. Dato' Sak,
Congratulations and alhamdulillah for winning the difficult Raub seat. You fought for a seat with all the odds stacked against you. Just prove your worthiness for being elected as an MP and you will find the next war will be easier for you. Being an opposition MP wont make it any easier for you to deliver as the Federal Government will prefer to support the MP of their own party.

  19. Dato, it is a great victory and you deserve the congratulations. When you are sufficiently rested, you should in your great flowery language tell UMNO that it is not the "Chinese tsunami" that caused them the the reduced majority. They have to remember that even the Malays did not vote for them. Maybe not even UMNO members! We need some burial grounds to kuburkan the BN big guns who have been massacred. Mahathir should be called to bury them!

    1. It now proves that the stupidity/anxiety of PAS ULAMAKs + MCA's slave mentality + Anwar's ego X SPR treason acts = Disaster + Sufferings to the Rakyat.

    2. Happy birthday to Altantuya. May now God takes over seeking justice for her as we the rakyats has failed.

  54. Congratulations, it was actually an urban and young voters' tsunami that swept through the election. Unfortunately, the rural voters have not yet reached that level to back up the flow.

PAS would have fared better had the party not made those wrongly timed hudud statements so near to the election. These most likely lost them fairly many non-Muslim votes.

And its new member, that ex-MB from Selangor also cost PAS votes when he mentioned something like Christians like to war. Wonder if he is a trojan.

When parties wish to govern as a coalition in a multi-racial country, extreme statements does not help in attracting votes.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Tahniah Dato. Dato merupakan seorang pemimpin yang berwibawa dan progresif. You have gone beyond "race" and religion. Malaysia memerlukan lebih ramai pemimpin seperti Dato untuk membawa Malaysia ke dekad yang sungguh kompetitif di dunia.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Dear Sakmongkol

First off – congratulations on a fine victory!

Those who had rooted for a PR victory are very disappointed. Electoral fraud and cheating at counting centers had no doubt contributed to PR’s failure to capture Putrajaya. But in the end the bigger factor was the rural Malay vote bank and those in rural Sabah and Sarawak that could not escape the orbit of UMNO and its allies.

This election was not the result of a Chinese tsunami as asserted by Najib. It was the result of a desire to end corruption and cronyism, issues that Najib never addressed. It was an urban-rural vote divide, and the urban vote was multi-racial.

UMNO/BN may have got another 5-year lease in Putrajaya, but it will not be business as usual. Changes must happen within UMNO and to the way this country is to be governed. Changes must also occur in PR. All this will become clearer once the election dust has fully settled.

Besides this blog you now have a platform in parliament to argue national issues. Good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Congratulations Dato I hope you will serve the people of Raub well
I hope you can address Pakatan's loss of Malay rural votes in an article. While mega rallies were held in urban areas. I noticed PAS PKR was neglecting the Malay rural areas where they were running. Hence this cost a lot of lost Malay heartland votes. Hence giving victory to Najib. Also rural areas get their information from MSM where there was constant blitz of negative information on Pakatan.
PAS deserves to lose Kedah They refused to get rid of dinosaur Azizan.

You will be the living example why UMNO & BN will fail with their racist policies & rule in the next general election.

DAP will shake off the 'chinese party' image sooner. What the UMNO newspapers reports day in day out is DAP is now the second largest party in Parliment and the threat fron the chinese and how ungrateful chinese are to BN.

What they cleverly left out is that DAP is the ONLY party with Malay, Chinese, Indian MPs & ADUNs in the country.

Believe for a brighter future. Lets start assessing the weakness in this election and attack BN...NOW.

In fact, the first person I was looking for in the results line up yesterday morning was you, but nothing appeared. I tried your blog but was unable to log in until this morning. You said, "The cause for the delay was an innocent mistake by the Ketua Tempat Mengundi. He had inadvertently left an important document ( Borang 14)". Due to the bad behaviour of UMNO, don't blame me if I am suspicious, but shouldn't the word "innocent" be read as "deliberate" and the word "inadvertently" be read as "conveniently"? Anyway, Dato', welcome on board.

  83. Assalamualaikum wr wb, Yang Berkhidmat Dato' Ariff Sabri bin Abdul Aziz.

Hope to see you in the Parliament. As I am already retired from my job as an academician so I will have more time to chat around with any MP whom I think will be willing to share ideas. Being an ex-Mahmudians it will be interesting to discuss global, national and local issues.
My humble opinion is that we should consider to 1. reinstate the English medium school 2. Abolish the petrol subsidy entirely but introduce a rationalization of subsidy that will only benefit the poor and Malaysian citizen. 3. Educate the PAS leadership, pertaining to the basic fundamentals and principles of Far Left, Central Left, Centrist, Central Right and the Far Right. The should read more books on Fascism, Communism, Socialism, Capitalism and liberalism. They should also be brief on the differences of the the Neo-classic, the Keynesian, the Austrian School, The Chicago School.
    So hope to see you.

Congratulations and alhamduillah YB for making it to the Parliament.

We know you will make a huge difference in articulating the right issues and be a voice for all Malaysians be it the poor in Raub to the middle class in KL.

Important thing before Najib begins as the PM is to call things by proper name. It is not a Chinese tsunami. It is a Rakyat tsunami.

As history is witness, BN squandered many opportunities to position itself as a change for Malaysian political landscape. BN will implode with the coming GE14.
The word that comes to mind each time the Election Commission’s name is mentioned is betrayal. Betrayal of trust, decency, hope, values, and the ultimate betrayal of the nation itself. And like with most betrayals before or after an election, the tone for this betrayal too was set by DrM and its umbrella BN. Perhaps the most decisive mandate was given to him on a platter by the rebuke of voters against the Perkasa BN candidates.

As suggested by some of the readers, there is a need to reach out to the middle ground within the Pas group and to recompose them. They are an important instrument in realizing PR’s goal in GE14. And I think YB has the caliber to bridge that ‘divide’ in Pas with others in PR. We must not let those in Pas to lose hope or let the hardliners triumph.
