Where Have All The Voters Gone?

In one of my meetings with Tun Daim Zainudin, he questioned where are the votes coming from for BN? Najib wanted to hold elections in June 2012 this year. His personal emissary Jamaludin Jaris went over to see Daim to present a briefing. Since 2008, Daim has become almost a soothsayer for UMNO whose every word is taken to be prophetic. When the wily politician said it would be suicidal for Najib to hold elections in June, JJ took a hasty retreat to report to the boss.
Najib now remains as the UMNO president and PM with the longest time without a mandate. That, despite his one fingering of this and that and all the big talk about transformation. What has he actually transformed?  It is just like what the Oracle of Syed Putera said- Najib has not got what it takes to run this country.
Just where are the votes coming from? Najib cannot trust the Malaysianised Indonesians because their icon is Anwar Ibrahim. The Cambodians? The Myanmerese? The Bangladeshis? Are we talking about a Malaysian PM? Can we trust a Malaysian PM who does not trust his own people?
Are the Felda settlers coming in droves to the suffocating embrace of UMNO? I am sorry to report; there is a groundswell of rejection among felda settlers. The FGV price is now RM4.65. That is 11 sen above the listed price of RM4.54. With 800 units to their name, the Felda settlers make RM88 for the 800 units. If they had taken out a loan where the processing alone was RM200, each settler would have made a loss of R112. That would be one angry settler. There are 112,635 of them. And if the felda settler has 5 voting members in his family, that would be 500,000 angry voters. Now, even if the government lends them the money to buy the 800 units and pays RM50 a month, there is no telling what the price of the FGV would be in a months’ time. If the price drops further, the settler will have to calculate what their holding cost is. If after 3 months, while he pays RM150, and he still makes RM88, he will still on the losing end. So can the felda settlers upon their considered advice of college and university going children continue to support UMNO? Hello, the listing has enriched the political aristocrats and the Malay bourgeoisie.
I know there is some trepidation and nervousness when it comes to taking votes from the traditional support base of UMNO- the rural votes. After having traversed the country doing my ceramahs and actually feeling the pulse, I would say, that nervousness and misgivings are slightly misplaced. The surge and groundswell that I have been talking about have spread even to the traditional reservoir of UMNO support.
The main reason for that is the huge disrepute that UMNO has earned upon its name. UMNO is synonymous with corruption, mismanagement of the country, arrogance and plain incompetence.
This change in heart is not attained overnight. It is not like; people wake up one morning and decide at the spur of the moment, they do not want to identify with UMNO any longer. UMNO’s tyranny and all the bad that is associated with the party have reached their tipping point.
The principal value among rural voters is always religion. PAS has already done so many inroads into the rural heartland. That religiosity needed only an impetus to be heightened. That impetus was handed over to the opposition when the UMNO president, a Malay and a Muslim sat passively when Chua Soi Lek delivered his scathing denunciation of Islam and Muslim. That is anathema and to add insult to the injured feelings,  Najib went on to give Soi Lek an additional RM30million to their RM100 million , when the religious schools got only RM 100million.
That is a lethal concoction that cannot be accepted by the rural voters.
How far reaching are the propaganda and the blatant vote buying that UMNO has dished out? All those culminated in the 2013 budget which is suitably named as give-me-life budget and the best charitable budget since Adam and Eve?
The propaganda is one big mistake and a huge overkill. How does the country take to the propaganda that the UMNO owned media industry took to vilify Anwar Ibrahim? For umpteen years, UMNO educate the Malays with the wrong values- making light of corruption and excusing them because the perpetrators are one of us, to besmirch another’s reputation and to infuse the public with filthy and depraved values.  All these are now producing a counter culture of rejection. Rejection of UMNO that is.
When womenfolk are now brave enough to attend ceramahs and responded equally energetically as the menfolk, these are signs of trouble for UMNO. It signifies a boldness on the part of the most important element of rural votes to not be afraid of the scare tactics and the horrific stories that UMNO spreads through their network of Kemas , JASA and JKKK apparatchiks.
I mean, which female rubber tapper in her right mind will buy the story bandied around by KEMAS operatives that not voting UMNO will mean she will lose her job as rubber tapper? Since when does UMNO own the land belonging to the rubber tapper?  That women rubber tapper now knows she cannot lose her job that she herself gives and which is not owned by UMNO!

  1. We've all heard so much huha about UMNO and BN's "silent majority" claim but just like so many of Najib boast, big talk and transformation initiative, we can see very little evidence of it (btw najib's boast and big talk are much more similar to a loud fart than a hot air balloon. At least a hot air balloon can reach the sky and bring loads of people with it. Najib's fart? Apart from giving off a loud noise, it left the people with a nauseated feeling afterward and little else!).

Take for example, the people (malays, chinese and indians..Malaysian) who attends UMNO's and BN's gathering, how many actually showed up because they truly believed in Najib, UMNO and BN? If we minus those who are forced to attend (public servants), school children who are ordered to be there by their Headmaster who by the way have no brain in their head and the "rent a crowd" attendees, I would say quite pitiful few (when compared to PR's rally or ceramah)! We are talking tens and maybe a hundred. The Silent majority? Where? In Bangladesh? In Nepal? In Indonesia? In Myanmar? In the graveyard?

The fact is that as it gets closer to the GE, UMNO and BN is slowly but surely losing whatever little support they have currently, which is not much (with CSL foul tongue, Shahrizat's lembu and Nazri's bodoh sombong tapi mengaku hensem statement it is air thin). With new scandals surfacing almost daily and weekly about their corrupt behavior, najib and UMNO is fast sinking in a "quicksand" without a branch to clutch on except for an old and decrepit "tuba" root held out from the hand of a "primadonna" who is more concerned with her bank account, diamonds and the power to make more of both thing than to help the drowning Najib and UMNO. A "tuba" root which is poisonous (to both najib and UMNO) and a vain "diva" who cares for no one else except herself, not a lot of help for Najib and UMNO, huh? Well, when you don't care for the people then the people have very scant regard for you. UMNO and Najib has indeed cared very little for the people these past 4 years and past 3 decades. As a result, Malays and Malaysian couldn't care less if UMNO Baru dies! They are not bothered if UMNO past and present leaders are investigated and prosecuted, in fact they relishes the very thought!

So where have all the voters gone, UMNO? No very far! Just to the opposite camp, the alternative political viewpoint and of course to the changing landscape of Malaysian politic that has no UMNO and absolutely no Najib, Muhyiddin, Hisapmudin, Nazri Aziz and Mahathir... guess it yet? Yes, its the land of ABU! 13 might well be the "suwey" number for UMNO, Najib and mahathir! I hope all of them are convicted of their corruption and sentenced to 13 lifetime of jail in Sg Buloh which we could rename as "The New Putra Traitor's Centre" or the manure pit of Malaysia! I agree, the latter sounds more appropriate!

    Nick.

  2. Dear Dato Sak

    Here is an analogy:

The current ruling kleptocratic UMNO-BN regime is doing to the economy of Malaysia what George W. Bush did to the economy of the USA i.e. messing it up and leaving a grave economic "legacy" to the more progressive regime that will replace it sooner or later.

All thinking Malaysians should be very worried about our national economic future and their personal EPF funds ....

  3. It all boils down to one big lie covering another..on and on that the biggest liar..the unelected PM dare not face a defeat in an election.
    He said..the economy is recovering.
He gave away millions...making Malaysians happy.
He is so loving...holding a baby in his arms.
He said he is PM for all Malaysians..and many many more.
What the heck!!..so good a PM..what is he waiting for??..till all the cows come home?
No matter what he said or done good...voters will not forgive him.
If they do...is like inviting a corrupted man.. capable of stealing and murdering into your house... as a friend.
Najib is fully ware that he cannot fool Malaysians anymore.
His last act...smile..be happy..be a loving husband..putting out a brave front...but deep inside..he is one desperate guilty man..still thinking ...how to stay free as long as he can.

  6. I really hope you are right. I hope the swing against UMNO will be more than sufficient to overcome the greatly expected cheating in the elections.

  7. A couple of days ago, The Star published a Bernama item entitled "Quality candidates can help BN wrest Kelantan from PAS".

In the report. Umno Veterans Club secretary Datuk Mustapha Yaakub said:

"BN candidates must be of good character, have high moral, not corrupted,
not arrogant, easily approachable and willing to serve in all situations."

How many such candidates can UMNO find?

If his criteria is followed strictly, then will Kelantan be a simple walkover victory for Pakatan?

  8. Dato'

In my village up to North, it's the womenfolks who strongly advocates for change when they see the high cost they are paying just to put a simple meal on the table like ikan kembong.

....and then they see the high life of those UMNO elites.

    Blood is boiling Dato'

  9. Anon 13:10 You worried Anwar at the helm?

I emphathize with you as Anwar will likely call for an open tender contract for the construction of new Sungai Buloh Hotel. I know I can secure this contract based on merit as I have often been awarded contracts on nego basis.

I am deeply worried as you are.

    Don't lah!

At his age he can't do more harm than what Dr M did for 25 years. Dont think he will even have 10 years.

Be strong, don't be a pessimist. There will be lots of uztaz from PAS to guide and check on him 24/7 unlike BN uztaz who can't seem to teach all the crooks in UMNO to straighten up.

Be a real Malaysian, be strong and always ready to fight to make sure nobody ever, ever invade Malaysia again through Melaka.

Brother, remember Hang Tuah to regain the fighting spirit.
