The Deity of Providence- UMNO and The Captive Malay Mind

When you travel along the Seremban highway you will see so many large posters of Najib exhorting the people with his usual sloganeering- Sejuta Impian , Seribu Keriangan. For slogans he got an A++ from Tun Daim. Translated loosely it says, A Million Dreams, A Thousand Happiness.
Where do these dreams and happiness come from?  Look at the posters closer. The posters tell of the basic building block on how UMNO sees itself. UMNO sees itself as the omnipotent being from where all providence spring from. Hence UMNO wants to be deified to whom the people, rakyat owe complete loyalty and allegiance to. It therefore doesn’t understand why people, most notably Malays find UMNO revolting.
This is what Najib doesn’t understand. People no longer accept ascriptive stature without demanding more than just your name and position. Beyond your name and position, people want to know what can be achieved. People look out out for achieving qualities. What have you achieved and what policies can you offer to achieve the greater good. Otherwise, you can put all the behemoth sized posters along the highways, people will just regard it as another way the government spends money like its theirs.
The posters showed they( dreams and happiness) emanate from the office of the PM.  Everything comes from the government and Najib. His portraits make him look more and more like the Korea Kims by the day. He has certainly shown his dark side by unleashing the repressive forces during the Bersih 3.0 recently. How can a leader of his country, allowed the police to fire tear gas and water canon on his own people. What kind of PM can describe people as accursed bastards?
That is why Najib goes around saying lu tolong gua, gua tolong lu and, give me your nambikei. This is the fundamental flaw which Najib commits every time he relates to people. He is pictured as the larger than life figure, the office of the PM is in the background hovering and towering over the mass of people depicted as the rakyat with the dreams and the hope for happiness.  The rakyat, people, my fellow citizens, my fellow Malays are always depicted as smallish entities, numberless digits.
Najib is a leader of the government that sees the rakyat as digits to be manipulated and shaped at will. He might as well say- my fellow slaves, ask not we your masters can do for you, but  ask what you can do to enrich and make us more powerful. Najib’s government is that collection of individuals who exercise the rule of the government over its constituents.  Who is that collection of individuals? They are that collective of the elite and powerful. What do they do, every day and time of their waking life? We can call UMNO by an name now- kleptocracy, oligarchy, plutarchy.
Najib preys on the susceptibilities and gullibility of the rakyat. The rulers claim a compassionate kindred with the common workers (aka slaves) and simultaneously enjoy the fruits of the labors of these menial serfs, also known as "my fellow citizens, rakyat, people" etc.  So Najib goes around claiming, its people first, achievement this and that.
But the posters tell you a different thing. People are always second. Achievement is a distant objective. The immediate objective is to secure unquestioning loyalty because the leaders are who they are and not what they can do.

So when you look closer at the posters next time, you will see them coming alive and saying ask not what your country can do for you -- ask what you can do for your country. You will see that Najib is really saying - Ask not what the elite and powerful can do for you -- ask what you can do for the elite and powerful.

  1. It is "sejuta impian" alright living in this country since Najib kick out the Badawi. The price of practically every grocery item has gone up beyond reach. I took fifty ringgit to a supermarket today for a change. Normally I do not shop at the super market for my daily essential. With fifty ringgit could only manage a few of the low end items that will keep me fed and alive for the next three days.Really how could anyone survive on a minimum pay of RM900.00. It is just a dream that Najib is peddling. In reality Malaysia will not be a high income but a high cost country. That will be Najibs legacy for sure, with the cost of everything busting the seams. And he has not stop inflating the country with his madness at spending and dishing out the rakyat hard earned money as if as though it belongs to his father.

It looks like you are describing Adolf Hitler. Isn't this what Hitler did.
He went for the naive, susceptible, gullible and the less intellectual.

If not, then the demise of MCA and Gerakan will do too.

  4. Dato, the way the politicians treat the elections is like a game of monopoly. And the ruling elite knows that they can play this game is because all the public institutions are under the thumb of the regime. That is the reason we can see all the giant posters and billboards of Najib.

In the US politicians who played the straw donors games and money politics played it good.Quite as a mouse. They make it look like they are 100% in compliance of the law.Once their campaign workers make mistakes on their campaign returns, the authorities will pounce. From state congressmen to US senators and state governors have landed in prison because of corruption and money politics.

If Malaysia were to follow the law of the US,the government would have to build a new prison just to accomodate the politicians. It would be fair to say that all the PM's would be all in prison except maybe for Tunku.Razak will be in for another reason.

Corruption is the only way the regime can hope to hang onto power. To have the funds to buy votes and support. And corruption is the dirty word that is going to have them thrown out too.

With the elections so close, opposition leaders and politicians should concentrate on the subjects that will hit home with the voters.Instead of internal bickering and whose men to put in place when they come into power. They are already counting the chickens.

  7. Dear Dato' I like reading your artciles and admire you for your logical reasonings. But today one thing I don't understand is, you have been asking others to ignore you and be happy rather than calling you "HAVE BEENs" as they can win against you anyways. But then you are making the same mistake by putting the lines below. You are part of DAP and if what PM is doing is not going to impress people then you should be happy as it will help ur PR win then why waste ur precious energy commenting on that. Instead you should focus on what is good that PR is doing and also pointing out harmful things the BN is doing and not talking about buntings and posters and how it is not going to help BN.

  11. Sak,
About UMNO...A party fast becoming an enigma before its demise.

UMNO seems to be in dire straits and are losing support from within their own ranks. Isn't PR exploiting this weakness? This massive inward inertia will eventually cause UMNO to self implode. Similar to a heart attack! Silently but surely.

Does UMNO view PAS's unit Amal as a neutralising force to the invisible extermists elements within UMNO? Knowing that if they 'cross that line' these Amal chaps will not hesitate to 'counter strike'. Is UMNO scared of this and knowing that any drastic action will actually backfire?

Also, are there any good and righteous soul(s) left in UMNO?

Probably the most baffling thing after half a century is that UMNO who screams at the top of their lungs about our national language being under siege are still stuck with an English acronym.

Blistering barnacles...how funny! Just do a litmus test and ask around how many people actually know what the UMNO acronym stands for and WHY is it still in bahasa penjajah.

Perhaps, UMNO wants to be the penjajah minda Melayu...from before, now, and forever. No pun intended here!

  12. Dato',
It is not just the PM doing this, the CM's/MB's too are doing the same. I see that each time when I enter Seremban but you should see Melaka. Immediately after you hit Ayer Keroh Highway, at EVERY corner in Melaka, guess who is smiling at you? And may we hasten to ask who is actually paying for these posters?
