Is the Government spineless?

It is, if it doesn't handle Namewee the right way.
There you are. The poster boy for the outrage against racism is a Muar Chinese by the name of Namewee. He is now the uniting factor. Uniting factor of what? His 'role' is being elevated to something beyond his own understanding. Your are creating a myth.
Is this a sign of extraordinary dearth of common sense? This boy has mocked the sensibilities of all Malaysians at every opportunity he gets and his outpouring of pubescent rage has been treated as something glorifying and probably something having a soul cleansing effect. It is said to have make us come to terms with our racism.
The message is never mind- let these young people represented by Namewee( not the other Malay teenagers) do their thing. After all it is because people like him speak up, the government has taken notice.
Because they represent the repressed real issues of our society. Let it all come out- our rage, our frustrations so that we become a healthier society. In any case, the Namewees of this world are merely suffering from the Menendez brothers syndrome.( remember the two American brothers who killed their parents? Well their action is being justified because when they were young they were brutalised physically and psychologically by the father). So, by extension, are the Muar Malays racist by nature? What have you done to poor Namewee and his parents?
Hello- on the fateful night, all the people in Muar suffered equally from the blackout and power outage. But Namewee is special. His rage deserves special mention. He is expressing outrage against institutional racism hiding behind TNB's inefficiency. The Muar Malays who were also victims of the power outage?- they are insignificant or in any case, let them suffer because they have been willing conspirators of institutionalised racism.
It's like what Lenin said. The case of one person is a tragedy. The case of the many- they are just statistics. Or like what Lee Kuan Yew says- they are just digits.
We, the enlightened people are more interested in the hidden messages and the Morse-code quality of Namewee's song lines.
Namewees of this world?- it's ok and tidak apa mah…, because they are brutalised and psychologically scarred when they were young. Now, let us permit him to express his repressed rage. Let it all come out. In any case, his racism is personalised. He lives with it by himself- you tubing notwithstanding. Hell, he is broadcasting to the world.
If Namewee isn't prosecuted by the government, it is sending only one message. It has capitulated to pressures to prove to the world, that it's a fair government and that will win brownie points for its battered image. We all know this is false. The government cannot allow itself be baited and seduced by this false idea, that the only way to project its fair and judicious image is to excuse people like Namewee from doing what he does. He has done nothing other than being allowed to express his insensitive rage.
The government is further baited and seduced by the idea that in order to show it's a fair government, by going and punishing a Malay Malaysian. Because the racism the Malaysian Malay practises is institutionalised.
The government should do what is right. If what Siti Inshah has done is wrong, punish her. If what Namewee has done is wrong punish him. It's a right and wrong issue. The government must show its capable of doing the right thing.
That is leadership.

  1. Time for this government to show some firmness in handling such situation that may soon be out of hand. Make him an example of what sort of behavior is not acceptable to most Malaysians irrespective of race.

  2. Yes, take action against them all..Namewee, Nasir Safar, Siti Inshah, that perak ADUN who likened Indian's to snakes..let's see if they have the balls...

  3. Yes, if what Namewee had done is wrong, let the law takes it course. As it is now, the MCMC had investigated him. A very fast act, indeed. The authorities concerned are silent in respect of the other offences committed by Siti, another principal in Kedah and Nasir Safar. How does the government explain that? There are some elements of unfairness, don't you think so? What Siti did, was seen by the DG as a little misunderstanding. Ahmad Ismail was only dealt with by UMNO disciplinary action. There it was treated as not a criminal case. So as Nasir Safar. IF the government wants to take any action (charge him with criminal offence) against Namewee then, same action must be taken action the abovementioned people. Do not be selective. The law is for everyone.

  4. Institutionalized? Part 1

Intrigued by the title of your previous posting, I am also surprised upon reading further that what you alluded to as “institutionalized racism” you refer to the (generally) Malays and the government, while by “personal” racism you had meant the Chinese (in general). And by that, there is always the extrapolative deduction by lilliputian minds that the government-malay is the bad-guy-perpetrator while the Chinese is always the “victims”. I had, of course, initially deduced the opposite.

By whose authority did you make that connection? By what factual backing? Of course, the many of your regular followers of non-malay descent couldn’t help but agree with you on this fallacy, always on the alert for more self-hating, self-ridiculing captions from your writings and more often than not, their only qualm would be that you didn’t criticize or condemn enough.

Oh but let’s not bicker and let’s look at the subject matter instead, shall we. What basis have we got to say that the malays’ racism is institutionalized? Just because many of the Malays are in government does that make them racist? Lets look at the Namewee-SIti-Insyah case.

On the outset one can see that the former is an individual of public standing and the latter a head of an institution of learning. But while Siti Insyah blurted out whatever she blurted out within the confines of her small constituent parameters and within the jurisdiction of her capacity of a headmistress facing daily consummate disciplinary problems of her students, and which are not meant for public consumption at all, Namewee’s “response” (if it could ever be so termed) is more broadcasted for the global audience to see and hear, insolence and vulgarity and all. As I said elsewhere, Siti Insyah’s admonishment to “go back where you belong if you don’t like discipline” is both historically, anthropologically correct and a befitting admonishment as well. Namewee’s retaliation by asking her to “suck banana” and subsequently take on the muslim-malay sanctity regarding ramadhan, the tudung and everything else exposes his more underlying crass mentality, lack of class and overall diminutive decorum. And now you are saying that the DAP and the entire Chinese community’s support for this insolent behaviour is acceptable while the more corrective, more admonishing, albeit more-historically-factual contentions of Siti Insyah is not?

The common threads of current discourse amongst UMNO Bloggers are:

    • Is unfair to “equate” Malays as being racist
    • Non-Malays don’t acknowledge or choose their own racist attitude/behavior/actions
    • Non-Malay Malaysians are so much better off financially
    • Najib should not ‘pander’ to non-Malay Malaysians

As a Chinese Malaysians – and I would encourage you to address us as Malaysians –and I would like to offer another perspective:

    • Chinese Malaysians don’t regard Malays as inherently racist
    • Government polices can often without intending to have a racist impact on sections of the population
    • No one has sovereignty on Racism – every human being for his/own reasons are capable of being racist and often, not aware of their racism – so we Chinese Malaysians or Indian Malaysians or Malay Malaysians are all capable of it
    • Malaysians of all races would like the Government to help those who need help and in this instance – the bulk of the poor comes fr the Malays – no question
    • Non-Malay Malaysians are standing up for their beliefs that the country belongs to them as much as it belongs to Malay Malaysians
    • Being poor is not exclusive to any particular race
    • Chinese companies are “private enterprises” – like any other private enterprises -they will employ the best who will help achieve the bottom line. Chinese companies will exploit Malays, the Chinese or the Indians or whoever - $$ is the criteria and not the color of your skin.
    • Non-Malay Malaysians strongly support affirmative action – but not policies that benefit the rich Malays/Chinese and not at the expense of poor Malaysians (for whom the bulk are Malay Malaysians

As someone once said – lets talk more about the things that binds us a Community and a nation. When I was young – I never saw a Malay or an Indian any differently – they were my fellow Malaysians. The constant stereotyping of Non-Malay Malaysians as not loyal or being part of the country is abnoxious and abhorrent.

Show that you lack the wisdom to differentiate.

The first is to generalise the entire communities of both non Malays to "go back" to China or Indian whats not...is seditious to the first degree. And here YOU DARE to say it is correct? What if the statement had been said the other way round , would you or all your race accept it? Of course not!

Namwawee is wrong to personally attack the HM using the video. Yes, he is rude to a degree to A PERSON who said seditious things about him not belonging to Malaysia. How do you think should be the appropriate response to this HM? You tell me if it is the other way round. All hell would break lose not from one but your entire community.

See the difference. Namewawee has AS MUCH RIGHT to this country as the HM no more and no less even if it stated there is a special "position" for the Malays in article 153.

That is about it . Perhaps you can tell us what actually 153 means. Ibrahim Ali your champion dared not and backed off like a coward.

This country belongs to ALL MALAYSIANS we called citizens. Unless you can find a definition of what "CITIZENS" means, then hold your tongue.

One race cannot insult another race on the basis HM did. What did Namewawee did was nothing rather than being coarse or rude. What can you charge him with? The HM can sue not you .. because you have no legal rights to do so. It is a case of one individual to another and only action is a civil legal action. This does not apply for HM's case.

In the first case, who started this ruckus? Which race...and almost everytime with the theme of the other races do not belong (BTN brainwashed?)

  10. Dato Sak, you said, "...The government should do what is right. If what Siti Inshah has done is wrong, punish her. If what Namewee has done is wrong punish him. It's a right and wrong issue. The government must show its capable of doing the right thing. That is leadership. "

Now you are on the RIGHT track. It is all about being RIGHT and WRONG ,or about who is MORE right and who is MORE wrong. Nor it is about Malay racism or Chinese racism.

There is a common thread in human sensibilities... it is called universal values.

I guess is if the Govt had acted quck and fast to denounce and take appropriate the moment the Headmistress was outed and identified for making that racist taunt, I would doubt Namwee would have reacted as badly as the headmistress. And if he had done so, he should be given an equal punishment for his racial taunt.

And that is what leadership is all about... especially POLITICAL leadership, whether you are Malay, Chinese or Indian.

President Obama displayed leadership when he stood up against the rising tide of opposition that Muslims have the right to build the mosque near Ground Zero in New York.

None of the UMNO leaders, least of all Najib has even an ounce of THAT kind of leadership exhibit by President Obama, a Muslim and an African American, to boot, when it comes to race and religion issues..

UMNO leaders cater to the lowest denominator of RCAE espoused by people like Quiet Despair and Shamsul Anuar, and that is why we are in the deep pit of communal distrust in the country.

And its people like you, Dato Sak, who should stand above the toilet-politics of our leaders today, irrespective of your political affliliation.

  12. Greetings,

Sak I do not understand, maybe it is out of ignorance that you do not see the fact that this short clip about TNB says something more than a youth engulfed in rage and subconscious racism.

It speaks of a larger issue in our society that is highly-inefficient GLCs. He stated it very clearly that in a developed country, an electricity outage is an extremely intolerable event. Imagine people running on life support at home. A 3-minute electricity outage could mean loss of life!

I am from Ipoh, and within a 1 year period of time, I have had 3 electricity outages. No compensation or letter of apology from TNB at all, as if it is a matter of fact that outages are a given. Complaints have been made through the proper channels. At the end of the day? No response whatsoever.

On this particular clip, Namewee is the physical manifestation of all the frustration and inability of the normal person on the street to fight off inefficiency in GLCs. Malaysian governments have traditionally not been too helpful to consumers in bringing GLCs accountable. And if TNB charges the people so high on electricity bills, it better make sure the service provided is pretty damn good.

P.s. I have lived in Australia for 4 years, and guess how many electricity outages I have had? Nil. And in terms of the proportion of my minimum salary, I am not paying any higher than I did in Malaysia.

    SAK,

Seem like the phrase “Siapa begin Malaysia kaya” have the utmost pierce into nerve of many, though we know NEP is a fact. What a laughable reaction. If we profoundly analyze both the creative output from that idiot rapper with the Che Dat blog master, we actually see more similarity than difference. Re–read you own piece on the “reservoir”, the psychology and philosophy behind is the same with those that “support” the idiot rapper.

‘We, the enlightened people are more interested in the hidden messages and the Morse-code quality of Namewee's song lines.’

Why used that as an indication of indirect attack on the Malay M’sians?

Why not extend the same logic for the raising showing of the sensitivity for the chronic Malay siege & inferiority complex?

Extend it further, to explain why such sensitivity IS been raised? Siapa makan cili, dis yang akan rasa pedas? Yes.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh Silly me. Perhaps I read wrong.

I didn’t know Siti Insyah “generalised the entire communities of both non Malays to go back to China or India” when she was angry with one or two disciplinary-challenged students. I wonder how she said it.

“Oi Ah Seng. Kalau kau tak mahu disiplin, sila semua orang Cina dalam Satu Malaysia ini balik Cina?” . Like that, perhaps?

And I didn’t realize too that Namewee’s attack on malay instutions (and anything they hold dear) was directed to ONE PERSON. Perhaps Negarakuku was sung and meant to one particular individual only? Oh yes that thing about tudung was only meant for ONE particular malay girl. Or lady. How about Ramadhan. They are perhaps not for the malays, much less the muslims in general. And of course, the TNB who had been giving him lighting all these years is suddenly a demon of the first order because, you see, it had inconvenienced Namewee for a few darn minutes, AND ONLY NAMEWEE of all Malaysians.

See now folks? How the slow, gradual and subtle demonisation goes on? See how falsity is twisted around to make it look as though it is good and just, and what is true is demonised as horror. And if I am wrong in all these, detractors of both spineless, anonymous origins would be better off to be occupied with the thoughts and writings of Angeline Sinyang.

Angeline asks the subtle but true (albeit more politically incorrect) question of how come asking someone to go home could be construed as a racist remark, especially when

“…the Chinese made it clear how proud they are to be Chinese from China . They look up upon Mao Tze Tung and all the great warriors of China and never share the same proudness towards our Hang Tuah, Tunku Abdul Rahman, Mat Kilau and other Malaysian heroes just because these Malaysian heroes are not of Chinese ethnic.”

Angeline has a more acute, non-myopic sight when she oberved:

“The Chinese despise Malaysia , Malays, our Kings, our language and everything, so why the hell don’t they go back to China ? It is just natural for the Principal to tell their kids to go back to China , where their hearts and souls belong.”

And now all this adrenalin is causing me to remember what I had wanted to say in that Part 2 thing.

It’s this institutionilizing thing. Dato’ your askewed labelling of this “institutionalized racism” attributing it to the malays is reminiscent of the events following the 9-11 twin-tower aftermath. Thence, some muslim writers got eager to do the “disassociation” thing hastily and equally condemned the terrorist acts, attributing it to an under-nourished ben Laden half-dead due to Kidney and Liver malfunctions who, from within some dilapidated cave somewhere in Afghanistan, orchestrated the operations of two airplanes by two arab pilots who had failed their driving license exams to out-manouver sophisticated American Radar systems, elude the powerful NORAD and dodge ace F/A-18 fighter jets to smash themselves onto the twin towers, conveniently dropping their passports onto the feet of some FBI agents while doing so, while it took them several months to just locate the indestructible blackboxes.
Only when several years later do the world began to accept the diabolical conspiracy behind these fairy tales but by then damage had been done, demonization had widespread and those muslim writers had safely diassociated and insulated themselves from the islamophobia perpetrating all over.

This institutionalizing of “institutionalized racism” of yours, Dato’, attributing it to the malays: From what have you hoped to insulate yourself against?

Hello, RPK is a nobody but a self-appointed voice of conscience. A skewered one and full of lies.
I suggest this RPK and Namewee contest in the coming elections.
Pick a Chinese constituency and see whether they can win.
In a Malay area, they will lose their deposits.
If PKR wins, RPK can be Home Minister and Namewee Miister of information, Unity and Multi-Media.

  25. Salam Datuk Pemblog dan Pembahas,

Namewee pernah menerbitkan video klip berunsur perkauman iaitu "negarakuku".

Don’t the Malays look up upon the great warrior from the entire Islamic civilization? Can this Angeline make a judgment which hero is greater, the Arab one or the Malaysia one? Malay have relatively short history, and therefore Islam fill up the vacuum of spiritual needs, while the Chinese that have a pretty ancient history is less religious, the linkage to China is therefore lean towards culture and history. Ini pun tak tahu masih mahu tunjuk kebodohan disini, malu aje.

“The Chinese despise Malaysia , Malays, our Kings, our language and everything, so why the hell don’t they go back to China ? It is just natural for the Principal to tell their kids to go back to China , where their hearts and souls belong.”
