A Sibu Sunday

Today, the town of Sibu goes to the ballot box. Will BN retain this seat?

It's going to be a very close finish in Sibu. This current PM breaks with convention by going down to campaign in by elections. Since it's only a convention and if it serves no advantage, it can be broken and no explanation need be given. It only shows that the leadership is determined to win. We want a determined leadership. Plus we are in this game to win.

Sibu has a population of around 52,000 people, comprising of 67 % Chinese, 10% Malays and 23% Sarawak Bumis. It's impossible for the DAP to garner total support from the Chinese community. The BN Chinese candidate comes from an influential family. He enjoys reasonable standing in Sibu. Therefore, it's not a foregone conclusion with regards to DAP's mastery over Sibu's Chinese voters, kampua mee or not.

Right now BN probably has a 3000 vote advantage in the form of postal votes and other guaranteed voters. It can lose if support from the Chinese community dips below 35%. If BN gets at least 40% of the Chinese votes, then BN should win Sibu with around 1000 vote- majority. Let us say that today, on this Sunday, 42,000 people vote. A likely scenario is as follows:-

Voters

BN

DAP

Postal votes

3000

0

Chinese

10,000

18,000

Malay

3000

1000

Sarawak Bumis

7000

3000

TOTAL

23,000

22,000

The crucial voting block is the Chinese voters. If BN can secure at the very least 35%, it can win this election by a hair thin margin of around 1000 votes. The DAP is strong, yes- but significantly among the Chinese community. Earlier on I said- that if the Sibus working in Semanjung choose to go back and vote, then BN's chances of winning is greatly compromised. We haven't heard of an exodus of Sibu people from Semenanjung.

That should be good news for BN.

  4. Yeah your party from hell (UmNO is in the game to win and to win at any cost with no morals. See your shameless president dishing out bribes (make a deal? You help me, I help you language of corruption) knowing well that our blasted gutless institutions will not persecute blatant election bribery. So Datuk Sak support bribery.

UMNO may still win in this world but wish all of you "all the best" in the afterworld.

  6. BN still has the edge. It will win with a majority of 2,800 to 3,200.
People in Sabah and Sarawak are the least racist in Malaysia.
BN can consider the two states as their fixed deposits.
But I am sad that this time around, the DAP and its people have been corrupting the innocece of the Sarawakians.
They are playing the Allah issue and the racist cards which can dent the votes of previously BN voters.

  8. Something is not right with the BN brand now. They poured more money than in HS for Sibu, voter turnout at only 60% (attributed to low urban turnout, which should spell trouble for PR). But what happened? BN fell and hit the ground hard! Not counting the postal votes, the majority was 3000 plus! So what gives? It is political maturity - i guess.

  9. The results are out and now its time for cancelling the post dated cheques.

Sibu folks will know that they are holding worthless pieces of paper called 'cheques' from the Federal government.

  10. Dato',

I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crises. The great point is to bring them the real facts - Abraham Lincoln

  11. Those who received the post dated cheques should try to cash it. It will be rejected but the rejected cheques will appreciate in value to more than its written value as a memento of BN President's desperate act to win a buy election in Sibu.
DAP's win in Sibu should open the eyes of the PM that plundering the wealth of the state of Sarawak by The White Hair family is no more tolerated by the people.
