Malaysian Circus in DC-3

Let's not be hot headed over this issue.

Three people were supposed to be on the panel. The forum was organised by the Washington CSIS. The invitees were guests of CSIS. The Malaysian ambassador wasn't the one who determined who should or shouldn't come.

The AG was in South America and because he was somewhere close by, was invited to speak. But he failed to turn up because he was caught up in discussions with his counterparts at the US Justice Department. Tun Hamid Mohamad was also occupied with some other things and couldn't make it too.

Zahrain Hashim whom I don't have many good things to say of (refer to my article when he abandoned ship) was with a parliamentary delegation led by Dato Nazri Aziz. He has been described as a very strong ally of Anwar Ibrahim for the last 30 years. He would be useful to reveal something about Anwar Ibrahim and PKR. Wee Choo Keong was part of the team as were Tajudin Rahman the 6 million Dollar Man and Ronald Kiandee.

If this was a waste of public funds how do we judged all the other trips organised for Parliamentarians that included also opposition members from DAP, PAS and PKR? They must be by the definition given by Lim Kit Siang sheer waste of public funds.

The very first question posed to Nazri Aziz after he completed a presentation on Malaysia's anti corruption laws was on Anwar Ibrahim. The questioner stated not asked, that Malaysia is similar to Myanmar. The grounds of lumping Malaysia together with the junta regime of Myanmar? Because of the way we treat Anwar Ibrahim.

I think this AI official must take us Malaysians as stupid in insisting that the measure of whether Malaysia is democratic or not is to drop the charges on Anwar. The problem is: this charge isn't brought about by the Malaysian government. This charge is brought about by the pleadings of an alleged victim who will be subjected to a barrage of vicious questioning in the weeks to come. We haven't heard the questionings yet and Anwar Ibrahim's lawyers will have every opportunity to do so.

All this while, I thought over dramatization and bizarre embellishments are stuff of Tamil Movies. Now I know, people in Amnesty International have the same artistic creativity.

Anwar Ibrahim isn't a measure of democracy. The more appropriate description should be Anwar is the measure of moral decadence and moral hypocrisy.

Anwar's case must be seen as it really is- a case involving private individuals. It is Anwar who politicizes the issue and links his case with alleged political prosecution. We can say everything nasty about Saiful, but please ask the questions in court. Why hasn't cross examination on him start? Instead we are treated to every round of red herrings and legal meanders to delay the case.

The whole of Malaysia is waiting for Anwar Ibrahim's lawyers to expose Saiful as a liar. In the witness stand, no one can protect him. Even lawyers who have been in the witness box have told me, they felt alone and most vulnerable in there. If Saiful is also a faggot, he will easily break down when Karpal Singh starts interrogating him.

The account given which Lim Kit Siang referred to as saying the crowd was probably 40 strong is easy to explain. After asking the needed to ask questions favourable to their interest and cause, those pro Anwar crowd dispersed leaving only those interested to know the real answers behind.

The off the record portion of the interview was probably designated so, as they might be prejudicial to Anwar's getting a fair trial. Why didn't the Malaysiakini attendee state clearly what was the material said that was requested to be off the record?

Finally have we wondered why suddenly Australia picks up the cudgels left behind by America? America is eager to cultivate good relations with Malaysia and does Malaysia with America. The Obama administration isn't about to use the Anwar case which is being tried in open court as an excuse or leverage to push unfriendly agendas. Senator Kerry's remarks were neutral in which he expressed the hope that justice will prevail.

The emergence of Australia as the voice of conscience for Anwar can only suggest that in the USA, Anwar's case is being looked at as it truly is- a purely legal case involving private parties. The position thus shown by USA suggests that Anwar Ibrahim's influence over lobbyists in the US is waning. He hasn't got Al Gore this time around to lecture us on reformasi.

But he has people in Australia led by that Ghouse chap who is canvassing support from Australian MPs to put political pressures on Malaysia to drop the charges on Anwar.

  1. Dato Sak,

    1. Malaysian government has every right to defend it’s policy, explain Malaysia judiciary system, correct negative perceptions and more importantly improve its image internationally.

    2. To prepare for this event the host and the speakers must be fully prepared knowing fully aware the target group it hope to influence may already have form perception about Malaysia and it host of problems(rightly or wrongly). If we were to believe Datuk Nazri, he was planning this for 6 months, definitely it didn’t show. The last thing that Malaysia need right now this event may becomes PR disaster for the country or worst backfire to the Governemnt. No need to further elaborate further on this as you are an expert in this area.

    3. Recently you wrote about up coming UMNO convention and among the topic to be discussed was power of new media. Using this event in DC, new media definitely shows it strength and agility. On the opposite side it showed Malaysia with it resources (money) and machinery couldn’t do a better job or even match new media compared to small funded but very organized group of people.

    4. As this involved public money, Datuk Nazri should be held accountable if event turn-out to be public disaster for Malaysia. With so many news splashed regarding mismanagement of public funds, stolen jet engines, subs that cannot dive; Malaysian public cannot be blame for having negative perception about government intention and competency. Perhaps Datuk Nazri should have rethink whether the Malaysian public should be given more focus instead of convincing those folks in US or even Australia. After all it is the Malaysian that voted the elected officials.

    Selamat Menyambut Maulidul Rasul.

  2. One must be a moron to believe that this case against Anwar is NOT political persecution.

See how they arrested him, the VIP treatment given to Saiful, the media coverage of the case, and the judgements against his application.

You write well but in this piece I see you prejudice and bias and perhaps hatred for Anwar.

  3. Datuk, somehow, you like Nazri seem to be getting to be more and more like a clown, but please forgive me if I said anything wrong. Ask and I may take back what I said.

Actually after my comment about being content to let rakyat or readers judge, I though I would stop commenting. But I realise I am here as your guest and I like the Malays don't want to be biadab.

And after reading what you wrote here, unfortunately so many questions keep popping up into my silly head. But if I keep going on and on here, my host may just kick me out.

So wondering if you give permission, if I can take snatches of what you wrote here to my blog and then put my responses there.

But unfortunately, I am not as brave as Anwar, I am a closet coward. I don't want to be prosecuted or persecuted like Anwar and really hope other's (let others bell the kuching lah) do it.

But who knows, I may change my mind if you give permission.

  4. patriot,
i have never read of anyone being described in good terms if he writes something disagreeable about anwar.
i am not at all disturbed if you describe me or whoever as clowns. you are free to visit other less inhibited websites to see how they described anwar. a clown is a walk in the park compared to how anwar is described.

  5. Actually, to tell you the truth, for a long time, I didn't trust Anwar for what he did when he was in UMNO. But as a truth seeker, I can quite quickly change my mind.

  7. The question here is not about Anwar at all. We fail to understand why over the past decade there has been growing concern over the rule of law in Malaysia. The issue is simple- INCONSISTENT APPLICATION OF THE LAW. It may not be clear to those who belong to the ruling class because this method of application of the law protects their interest. I think that the time has come for the government to hold a referandum to find out what the people think about the issue.

Our rule of law and the institutions that uphold the law have all become very transparent in the manner they conduct themselves. In a sense we are moving in the direction of the former Eastern European countries. When the Soviet Union fell apart the Communist Parties allowed the democratic forces to take oever on one condition-there will be no prosecution of Communist Party officials by the new democratic government. But because the institutions of government were still in the hands of former Communist party officials they began their non cooperation movement when the democratic forces took over power. They placed road blocks all along the way effecetively bringing the admnistrsation to a grinding halt by the inconsistent application of the law and rules and regulation. You see, this now happening in Malaysia in the states that are in the hands of the opposition.

The institutions of the government are required by the constituion to serve the government of the day. But in many so-called democracies all over the world this important element of democratic governance has be blatantly undermined because ruling parties have become so rooted that they never can be voted out of office.Constitutional term limits are overturned after they retain a two thirds majority in elections that are conducted in a manner where the rules of engagement will not even survive a simple test of fair and free elctions.

We have rached a stage where the financial stakes of remaing in power is so high that we are in the critical period where the ruling class is deceived by its own deception and is prepaered to go to any length to ensure to remain in power by fair our foul means.Ramalx

  8. Deny and give excuses is what Malaysian Government is good at and then friendly bloggers justify by spinning the story.

The issue is not one but two speakers did not turn up. What kind of planning is that? No wonder our Malaysian Government is loosing respect from foreigners.

  9. "you are free to visit other less inhibited websites to see how they described anwar"

Thanks Datuk, but no thanks. While Saiful (Out of respect for you, I would call him names) had constipation, I may get the opposite, shit coming out of my mouth and I am already afraid enough of vomit, what more shit from the mouth.

  10. Ah just noticed this in your profile: "This work by Dato' Mohd Ariff Sabri bin Hj Abdul Aziz is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative"

Sounds like I don't need permission from you to reproduce what you wrote in my blog as long as I make sure I report verbatim. Wonder if I will? Should I readers seeing I am a closet coward?

  11. Sak - You are entitled to your opinion but not to facts..saying its more appropriate description should be Anwar is the measure of moral decadence and moral hypocrisy.

U trying to play judge and jury. Show me proof that he has accumulated wealth thro moral decadence. Most of his supporter believe he is immensely less corrupt then the rest.

And guess u believe DSAI is going to get a fair? n Where are the facts from the guys who jumped ship about DSAI.

Nothing wrong with being lectured at unless u believe we have the facts to support us in good governance. not there yet!!!

  13. patriot,
aw..dont be a prude and modest. you can reproduce it verbatim and publish an article. lets see whether you can remain collected in yr arguments.

  14. You are really naive lah Dato' but dont take us to be such.

You just need to know the events taking place to know it is a real sham. there are soooo many factors and soooo many obstacles placed in front of Anwar's need to defend you fail to mention. You expect us to believe it is really private in affairs?

You wrote many logical articles, but this has to be off the mark.

I dont need to mention all.. the facts are for all to see.

Come on lah .. the way Saiful case is taken up and sooo convenient too the people he met etc etc . .you dont mention.

Why the meeting was off the record? For fear of what? Why did you not mention that?

No the obvious is sooo very obvious.

The damage to BN is far far greater and they are making a martyr of Anwar as a rallying cry to change.

This we know, these fellas are very very stupid policians. If Anwar is in jail the forces of change would be sooooo much greater than when he is out. You see soooo many of their tactics to sow trouble only to backfire on themselves and their image getting worse by the day. Really stupid i tell you.

Another thing, you see day in and day out the double standards that make you sick. Today there is another one. The two journalists let go scotch free. What if these had been non Muslims doing it to a mosque or insulted Muslims? We see KJ making himself a fool explaining the reasons. We are not kids lah. And you expect we be led by such people? Crazy.

Go figure what kind of country we are in. We are in very bad times and still going downhill.

Prosecuting Anwar is the political suicide by BN if you really know politics. Anwar has done his main job of uniting and forming a viable alternative to BN. Imprisoning him would only cause the unity of those who oppose injustice.

that would surely seal the fate of BN.

  15. Dato,

This is a very biased article.

    What happened to you?

Please take 10 deep breaths and re-focus your thoughts.

  16. The prosecution is required by law to give the defense team whatever evidence necessary for the accused to mount a defense but prosecutors are doing the exact opposite. How is it fair when this is happening?
