Paying our Judges

Wanted to write on this a few days ago. The secret is out. Dato Nazri Aziz, who took over as the defacto law minister after Zaid resigned, told the Dewan Rakyat today that RM10.5 million was paid out to the judges. The facts are as follows:-

  1. Salleh Abas, the former Lord President, received the highest amount - RM5 million.
  2. Supreme Court judge, the late Tan Sri Wan Suleiman Pawan Teh RM2 million.
  3. George Edward Seah Kim Seng got RM2mil
  4. Tan Sri Wan Hamzah Mohd Salleh- RM500,000
  5. Tan Sri Azmi Kamaruddin RM500,000
  6. The late Tan Sri Eusoffe Abdolcadeer - RM500,000.

Now, sakmongkol reads of the above and he is flabbergasted. It is now confirmed, everyone has his price. Judges and common men, plebeians and patricians- they are all the same after all. Even for one who has always pompously and indeed piously advertise to the world, his sanctimonious integrity. He got the highest kickback to assuage his hurt feelings all those years.

Now, sakmongkol thinks the best service they can give to society is to give all the money to charity. If they had integrity at all, they could have refused the ex gratia payment.

The whole idea of paying the aggrieved judges is not based on some misty eyed idealism about justice, or about reinstating lost integrity and honour. It was all about, putting a price on an elaborate attempt to besmirch Tun Mahathir.

And sakmongkol has another question. Why should we insist that in all other transactions, we shout till we are blue in the face there must be transparency and yet, when it comes to money being paid to judges, we want to shroud it in secrecy? Is that a judicial equivalent of honour among thieves or the judicial mafia’s omerta?

  3. How was this decided?
How can the Bar Council or Zaid just overturn the tribunal's decision?
    Was there an investigation,etc, etc..
Isn't this a mockery of the "rule of law"?

    Everybody is equal.
    But I am more equal.

Somebody beats me to the gun.
    Me being categorized as 'everybody'

I'll have to wait for another 1000 years then.

    Terima kasih.

  7. It is absolutely ridiculous.Should all those sacked be given this kind of payment.

If it was wrongful dismissal than they should have gone to court and the court should decides whether they should be compensated.

  8. Salam Sakmongkol,
I got sick to the bone looking at the amounts paid to these judges, especially to salleh abas, and from the taxpayers money too!! You are right, this whole act by zaid ibrahim to smear TDM in the name of judicial reforms smells like sh#@!

  9. All comments here sound a bit immature in my opinion.

These judges were sacked during the process of taming and controlling of the judges... and wrongly put out of action.

It is not the money that matters, it is wrongful dismissal the government could no way to admit their wrongs.

So the best compensation for an unjust acts was to provide some sort of monetory compensatioin.

By right , my opinion is that the amount should have been more. had the judges brought such actioins into a western court , I tell you the compensation would have been tens if not hundreds of millions for wrongful acts on persons of high standing in society.

These judges do deserve more than what is compensated and you guys dont be so narrow minded and really think these are YOUR MONEY.

By right they could have sued to get ten times as much.

Are you related to any of the judges?
If they are so so so right, why didn't they take their case to court and get those hundreds of millions that you talk about...
i hope all of them rot in hell for taking that money. you can join them too.

  12. Dato' Sir,

Why Dollah took four years at office to realize that those judges had been wrongfully dismissed?

Since it was public money, why made it secret in the beginning?

Will true justice prevail through dinner occasion and compensation?

I have had enough of Dollah, hopefully he disappear for good next year, and brings along his son-in-law.

And Zaid Ibrahim, the most honourable and principled of them all, should do the honourable thing - Japanese style.

Should I have to be related to the judges to post what is right and what is wrong to highlight narrow minded individuals like you and to enlighten your ignorance of the circumstances at that times?

So you mean it is a sin, in your eyes, to take compensation money for the wrongs? You in your view all those victims ,other than the judges, awarded compensations for their loss of limbs, accidents etc should also rot in hell , while you enjoy in heaven doing nothing?

Gosh you are somebody. Your opinion is really skewed.

Btw, dont be so obsessed about Charity. My suggestion, try these Charities and ask these Charities to contribute to society by help (not taking money from them) in one of your charity projects, then you see what is that Charity's reaction. Then you would know what many Charities' staff are really made of. LOL

    Not all are angels.

Suing in the courts!! LOL. They the rightous ones were sacked and who were installed to judge them? Really naive statement. You think they are that naive to think it would work? You think all judges would be like RPK's courage?
    Be realistic.

That is why , guys like you post without using your head.
