The Law is not an ASS nor Must it be made into One

Sakmongkol understands the excitement of many people to pulverize Anwar Ibrahim. He is getting on the nerves of everyone. But when you start doing so many nonsensical things, Sakmongkol is beginning to sense that something is afoot here.

All week, everyone that matters in the government has been saying that Anwar has no substance to back his intentions to form the federal government. He has no numbers. It is a hoax. He is a liar. He is a charlatan. Etc. etc. Every major newspapers screamed blue murder against Anwar.

If, our convictions actually lead us to believe that a change in government will not happen in a million years, then why all the ruckus? Why for instance, must Syed Hamid Albar go on TV to pontificate that the police are monitoring the movements of Anwar? And the big Kahuna himself, Pak Lah alludes to Anwar being a threat to the security and economy of the country.

Sakmongkol can accept and understand, the concept of a threat to the security of the nation- if it means Anwar is head of a clandestine armed organisation. The Malaysian or Bukit Segambut Abu Sayaf group or something. Or even maybe the Revolutionary Gay Army Against Discrimination(RGAAD)- if Anwar is the high priest that is. Sakmongkol can understand a threat to the economy being the stupid handling of the economy by half past six directors of GLCs who botched their investments. These Sakmongkol can understand for he has received some training in economics and also have some knowledge on politics.

However the pinnacle of stupidity and idiocy is reached by the recent action of some hardened looking individuals making a police report against Anwar. The report says Anwar should be stopped for being a threat to the security of the nation and threat to the economy? I don’t know whether to laugh or what seeing the bald stupidity of this shenanigan.

Sakmongkol believes there is a concept in law called due process. In its application, judges protect the rights of citizens against the arbitrary injurious actions taken by the government. Any action leading to the weakening of this protection by judges from legislators(read government) to Sakmongkol’s mind is an abuse of due process.

Sakmongkol now asks, will this shameless parade of farcical concern for the security of the nation be dignified by the law enforcement and judicial institutions? Or will be it be treated as an abuse of due process?

You, sir, are he most eloquent and prolific commentator on the current state of UMNO walking God's green earth today. You are readable, entertaining, and best of all, you make a hell of a lot of sense.

Thank you for being kind enough in sharing your insight with an apolitical and apathetic mere mortal like me.

  4. You've hit the nail on the head ! Much as I detest Anwar's antics, a stall holder making a police report saying Anwar actions and security threat has effected his business is stretching things a bit far! But I believe this stall holder is just but a pawn in someone's plan to score brownie points! I enjoy your writings and take on things effecting our body politic.
