JB Jeyaretnam(1926-2008)

JB Jeyaretnam, R.I.P.

Sakmongkol promises to take a break for Hari Raya. He is afraid , that is a promise he cannot keep. For he has just learnt about the passing of JB Jeyaretnam, for several years, Mr Opposition in Singapore. He was Lee Kuan Yew’s nemesis and bĂȘte noir to the PAP.

Sakmongkol met JBJ once in Singapore many years ago. His genteel appearance belie the indomitable spirit within the man. Sakmongkol saw the great man selling his party’s newspapers in front of a shopping complex. Quiet and determined.

Sakmongkol wishes to convey his heartfelt condolences to his surviving family members. RIP JBJ.

Of him, one can say…

FORTITER IN RE, SUAVITER IN MODO- RESOLUTE IN ACTION, GENTLE IN MANNER.

  1. Bless him for being brave and righteous. More than can be said for those who only believe that might is all that is needed to be right.

He lives on who lived for others. May society return something to his family so that they will be able to see that good men are appreciated in this world of material power.

  3. they say the eyes are the windows/index to the soul. if anyone had the opportunity to come close to JBJ, one would sense kindness in him. although i belong to a different ethnic grp and am of different faith, respectful of yr fellow human being is a universal value that transcends religious denominations.

  4. Eyes are a windows to the soul but in JBJ case the glowing eyes were due to liver inflammation. That's how you could see this in traditional chinese medicine.
