I have been
harboring one uncomfortable thought all this while. Many of my friends are pro
PR. But a certain number of them are pro PR in
potentia- i.e. they are willing to adopt the posture of anti UMNO, as long
as they think UMNO can only lose in theory. But as the groundswell of
anti UMNO builds up and they realize that UMNO can actually lose, they crack
up.
So while
they profess to be anti UMNO, they don’t want to see the demise of UMNO. How do
you explain these contradicting sentiments? At heart they still have this fear
that if UMNO actually loses out, they will be without protection.
This means
they share the same fears as that expressed by a person who sent his/her a
comment to my earlier article. Written in Bahasa Melayu, the person asked who
will protect the Malays if UMNO is vanquished. We cannot rely on DAP because it
is a Chinese based party.
I am
surprise at this response. After 55 years, the person who sent the comment like
some of my friends hasn’t found the answer and has missed the point. After 55
years, we are NOT meant to look out for protection.
We have looked
for the wrong thing! The idealism that we are looking for MUST be the
liberation of the Malay mind! We should be asking what we have done to wean the
Malays from their dependency. Now, if a government has ruled over the Malays
for 55 years and it has failed to liberate the Malay mind and weaned him off,
and even if there a single Malay asking for protection after 55 years, this government
has failed miserably.
Why this
kind of two steps forward, one step backwards? People who profess to want
liberation from UMNO slide back from the march of progress, to express
lingering fears?
The answer to
my mind is because liberating ideas require a liberal order which hasn’t come
to fruition yet. It therefore requires an exceedingly courageous attitude to
imagine that a liberal order involving a limited government as one of its
principal elements is a certainty. Years of being accustomed to living under a
nation ruled by UMNO stop people from thinking that it is POSSIBLE to live
without UMNO. We have to believe that there is a better life without UMNO.
Liberation from
mental bondage requires courageous analyses over emotional excursions. The emotional
faculties within a human being is more developed than the cognitive or
reasoning faculties. Emotional allegiance is easier to secure, it requires only
an appeal to primordial fears. On the other hand, it’s harder and longer to
secure allegiance based on cognitive reasoning.
So what we
are going to do? We are not going to stop but to continue presenting readers with
reason and dialogue.
I have
given the short answer to it. I said PAS can easily fill in where UMNO steps
out. We have to realize that the world does not end if UMNO is defeated. It is
not a case where all the skills required to run a country are only with UMNO.
The PKR
states are run on better terms than all the BN states. Revenues are rising. In Kedah,
revenue from logging has increased so many folds. It used to be RM 8-10 million,
now it’s RM70 million. Cash reserves held by the Selangor government is now
over RM 2 billion. It never got to more than RM 1 billion during all previous
UMNO lead government. Most important, we don’t see Malays dying in the streets
for want of protection.
The question
is fundamentally wrong and this is the premise where UMNO got it all wrong. You
don’t structure the country on the basis of protection. It is not protection
that we want to give to Malays. We want to liberate them, to allow them to
prosper not to imprison them in bondage and dependence.
The best protection
comes in the form of the rule of law. Not rule by men but rule by law. I hope
the person who poses the question gets it.
After 55
years of independence, we know of the principle that differentiates the Malays
from the others. Those without protection become those who are better able to adapt
and compete. Those who are accorded protection and are unwilling to extend themselves
beyond the box remain behind, disadvantaged in many aspects of life.
The question
after 55 years should not be whether we can get protection at all. Rather the
issue and the question is, are we liberated in mind and spirit?
Perhaps it’s
instructive for us to learn the lessons from the French Revolution which
provided us with the motto Liberté, égalité,
fraternité, French for "Liberty, equality, fraternity.
Liberty consists
of being able to do anything that does not harm others: thus, the exercise of
the natural rights of every man or woman has no bounds other than those that
guarantee other members of society the enjoyment of these same rights.
Equality- The law
"must be the same for all, whether it protects or punishes. All citizens,
being equal in its eyes, shall be equally eligible to all high offices, public
positions and employments, according to their ability, and without other
distinction than that of their virtues and talents."
Fraternity- Any man
aspires to liberty, to equality, but he cannot achieve it without the
assistance of other men, without fraternity
Dear Sakmongkol
ReplyDelete“So while they profess to be anti UMNO, they don’t want to see the demise of UMNO. How do you explain these contradicting sentiments? At heart they still have this fear that if UMNO actually loses out, they will be without protection.”
I believe in psychology they call this condition of contradicting sentiments “cognitive dissonance” – holding one belief that seems to contradict another. It is not a comfortable feeling. But it must be dealt with.
And you deal with it through “counseling” and through a rigorous presentation of “facts” that appeals to logic, in addition to dealing with the emotional aspect. You are actually doing a good job of both.
On the second point of “protection”, I have offered my comments in an earlier post. But allow me to summarise the main points here.
One, as you have pointed out, UMNO has been “protecting” the Malays for 55 years and if they still need protection, then all those UMNO policies have failed. The child did not grow up fearless and independent.
Two, against what and whom do the Malays want protection from? The Malays through UMNO already is dominant in parliament and in government, and is over represented in all agencies and branches of government, including the army and the police. So who could possibly harm the Malays, their customs or religion?
Three, if the UMNO Malays lose in the election, better Malays will replace them. That would be the only reason the Malay electorate wants replacements – out with the bad and in with the good. So the number of Malays in Parliament and in government would not change, only different faces and names and parties.
Fourth, if it is open competition that the Malays fear, this can’t possibly get worse. The average Chinese is already out-competing the average Malay - nothing new there. What would be new is if the Malays jettison their fear of competition, acquire true independence to stand-alone and compete with confidence. Chinese success didn’t come from the exercise of some esoteric powers. They came as a result of education, hard work, sacrifice and enterprise. The same formula is available to all Malays. The Chinese are no more genetically predisposed to economic success than the Malays.
But if “protection” is the consuming thought of the Malays, then they will never experience the liberty of mind and spirit that you talk about.
I am not so sure if the PKR can put the act together. We have idoits in PAS started asking started asking their President to be the PM,not knowing before they cant win Bukit Gantang seat without solid support from the Chinese.
ReplyDeleteWe have idiots in MCA who used to demand DPM post, in DAP who step on politician picture & in Gerakan as well. For years there were solid support from Malay to chinese candidates in Malay majority seat. So mind your language & attitude Mister. What PAS reps want is fair deal. May PAS won majority seat don't they deserve the PM post? Even DS Anuar Ibrahim was ok. This may sound impossible but it's not too ambitious, thou. That's the outcome of sound democracy.

ReplyDeleteRemember Singapore, those people there depended on good old LKW TO DO ALL THE BLOODY THINKING, RUNNING THE COUNTRY ...SPOON FEEDING THEM IN THEIR THOUGHTS ....THAT EVERYTHING WILL TURN UP WELL FOR THEM...HE WAS A GOOD CAPTAIN THAT STEERED THEM TO SAFETY....bUT THE SINGAPOREANS LOSS THEIR VOICE...THEIR SOUL TO EXPRESS.
Its the same with the malays here in this bolehland...for 55 years they were made so dependent on government service that only UMNO can save the malay race...55 years its in their genes and they have been made into cowards ...Fear itself have drained them to what they are....
I dont see any hope here with the malays to change and stand up to what is wrong....
Daily we hear those blantant wastages about those umno scums but it doe'nt bite into them...At the end of the day...they become so tame that its all right to be blind to all this ...
The sad thing is that they feel that umno owes them a living.
Dato Sak
ReplyDeleteonly those malays with lard layered brain ( borrow your phrase ) will need protection from umno
Dear Dato Sak
ReplyDelete1. The non-Muslims also need to get over their unease and even fear of being ruled by a coalition government with PAS as a major component.
We need to cleanse ourselves of all this UMNO-MCA-BN induced fear as a result of years and years of propaganda.
Look at Turkey today -- it is ruled by the moderate Islamist Prime Minister Erdogan and its economy is in good shape. Contrast Turkey with neighbouring Greece!
As long as PAS sticks to a moderate Islamist line, things should be fine for the non-Muslims.
2. After coming to power at the federal level, Pakatan Rakyat must be pressured to carry out affirmative action on the basis of SOCIAL CLASS (and not race), this will help the Malays since many of the poor are Malays.

ReplyDeleteHe is the 'new' look and soundbytes of the UMNO/BN cybertrooper that I notice are making the rounds. His plan apparently is to subtly reinforce the odd expressions of disagreements by members of one PR party for and/or against the other PR parties in line with the UMNO/BN usual and pet views of the various PR parties.
Dato, the tongkat, clutches and wheelchair dependents of Umno wants to free and self dependent. But these people have been brainwashed from young, and inside their heads think that they cannot compete and survive in this competitive world without Umno. They do not have the confidence and mentality and always wants to be led.
ReplyDeleteInside they want to be free, but outside they always think that they have to depend on Umno and derserved a handout to survived. It is like they have been crowd hypnotised. That is the reason they always vote Umno, even though they knew that Umno put them in that quadmire. They are the ones scared that if Umno were to go to the dogs, their chances of survival will be minimal and hellbent.
It is this type of people that the PR must concentrate on,and wake them up from their trance,in order to march into Putrajaya. Those well educated and diehards of both coalitions have already decided and will be very hard to sway either ways.
To those people weighing in on hudud, listening to porn star Chuah Sr and son Chuah Jr and bald headed Nazri.
ReplyDeleteNo hudud under Umno/BN.Cronism and corruption getting out of control. Two sets of laws.Politically connected are immuned from the law, even when caught committing gangsterism, promoting porn, rape, incest and murder. Those not politically connected might fly off windows of high rise buildings like UFO's.
Hudud under PR.Cannot commit cronism and corruption. No acts of gangsterism, promoting porn, rape ,incest and murder. Those caught will have their hands or batangs chopped off.Ordinary guys are advised not to fly out of windows of high rise buildings.
A law abiding citizen will stare with the eyes and mouths held wide open about what the fu*k all this confusion is all about.Who cares about hudud this and hudud that if one do not intend to commit crimes and break the gomen's laws. And all the out of control criminals that the gomen and its PDRM cannot control will eventually fade away. They will dissapeared into the Golok or Indonesian jungles.Go figure.

DeleteDato, I attended my son’s graduation recently. Naturally it was a proud moment for me.
ReplyDeleteBut I was also proud of another graduate – a Malaysian! I went up to her (how not to say ‘Apa khabar’ when we come across another Malaysian while abroad). It was funny; I made an effort to talk to her folks in Bahasa Melayu and sensing my difficulty, they replied in English! So, we end up in spattering BM & English, or rather Manglish. I took photos of her during the ceremony and they were happy to receive them.
I said to myself “This is one fine Malay lady who can stand tall, who has liberated herself from mental bondage of depending on UMNO” She doesn’t need any protection!
So, to my Malay brethren, free yourself from this chain of forever depending on the govt.

Sir,
ReplyDeleteYou are a learned man and so are many of your friends. If they have problems with UMNO losing, then how about we the kampung folks.
We prefer to read Harian Metro, listen to gossip, watch cerita hantu on TV3 and Astro and for political news, we rely on RTM & TV3(/4?. We get BRIM and many bantuans, so how not to vote for UMNO-BN?
We also get paid for attending VIPs visit and a few lucky ones get to tag along a few rombongan lawatan sambil belajar (actually rombongan sambil bercuti) and we don't mind at all.
PR mana boleh kasi semua ini?
All this low self esteem among the malays has been planted by that dirty brainwash dept parked under the PM's ketiak called-BTN. They have been and still is quietly doing the brainwashing as we speak.
ReplyDeleteWhy do the Malays want to be protected by the same very people who have been stealing and looting from them?
ReplyDeleteTheir enemies are not without, they are already in their beds buzzing and harassing like the mosquito in the selimut
Dato, All the reasons advanced in your article are good. I will only use one reason to assure the Malays in this country: That not one party can form the government without the Malay support. We have to be confident that the Malay leaders in any party are not going to work against the interests of the Malays and Muslims. On both sides of the the divide there are truly leaders who want to want to have a prosperous and peaceful Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteUMNO has zombiefied the Malays into thinking they are inferior to the Chinese and thus need protection from UMNO.
ReplyDeleteNay, they say even Islam needs protection from UMNO!!!!!!!!!!!!
UMNO is in fact telling Malays that they are weak race and they need privileges in jobs, investments, business contracts, uni entry requirements and even in lower pass-marks in public examinations.
Tell me Sir, who made Malays "slaves and beggars in their own country?"
UMNO or the Chinese?
Unless the Malays free themselves from this mindset, the race will never progress.

Dear Dato,
Based on the above statement. Most Chinese aware that Malay able to be independence and feel proud about their achievement. This scenario also happened to me when I knew a Malay girl (Nurul from Nilai) who was my son classmate willing to enrol into Chinese school and get 5A/2B in recent UPSR exam.
But one serious issue need to be addressed. All Malay in Malaysia who became rich will be label as “NEP” product. Meaning that their achievement is from the free hands out by the G.(tongkat)
I still can recalled an incident happened in Parliament during 2008 when Wan Azizah said all poor people in Malaysia should be treated equally regardless of race but our Oxford guy Khairy said “ you also an :”NEP” product that get help from the G due to your Bumi status.
The big issue here is how a good and capable Malay able TO BE RESPECTED from his/her own race without the title of “NEP” Product?
Dato, you should ask Diam (syeb Oracle) whether he respect the malay or not. If yes, ask him why his top/middle Management staff only consists of Chinese and Indian?
NEP will kill the dignity (MARUAH) of Malay in Malaysia and forever. They will be insulted by their own race and not other race.
Malay should think how to remove this so called “NEP” title hang on their neck for 55 years and can held their head high as other race in Malaysia.
Datuk Sak, You're the true Malay who fight for the cause of liberalising and strengthen the existence and survival of Malay.
ReplyDeleteHope most of the Malays will get to see it and understand you from heart.
The dependency of UMNO for handouts is like being fed opium fo their minds... addictive and weakening their minds. The quicker the withdrawal, the better for the race of Malay

Umnoputras can messed and sexed all around, gay sex, rape or incest and be freer than their birdies.Only in Umnoland, the land of the bolehs.
You know what the blogger has written rings true.
ReplyDeleteIf people like Khairy and Saifuddin have been checked by party apparatchiks until only wishy-washy ambivalence remains, the same fate awaits others who have already long concluded that Umno is no longer a viable political representative of our Malays.
After all, has anyone ever heard any Umno member stand up and publicly admit that it is Umno which is the source and cause of so much corruption, waste of public funds, hypocrisy and arrogance, and then suggest what must be done to cure those diseases once and for all?
You only get to hear the Umno Selangor chief say that the Umno federal government will not release the RM300 million funds slated for the third PK bridge since Barisan no longer runs Selangor. Isn't that arrogance combined with blackmail coming from a thick face what more a black heart?
He just blindly followed his boss who said a similar thing about the Batu Caves condo. If the voters there call the bluff and returned Pakatan in GE13, would Najib then have to stand by his word and NOT do a thing about the condo in which case his promise exposes he has put Umno ABOVE the hinduism that those voters wanted to protect?
Thus it seems Umno can only make promises when it sees advantage to itself FIRST so how can it feign anymore it has the interest of the rakyat at heart? Where then is that 'rakyat didahulukan'?
You next get to hear the DPM say that Sabah is more than a fixed deposit and so it will be defended at all costs, a phrase first used by his boss from Pahang.
If that boss could turn a blind ear to the cries of the people in that state on the matter of Lynas, shouldn't the people in Sabah be now worried what 'at all costs' would engender for them, especially coming from none other than NFC's medium-rare showcase model?
Have a cursory look at how the rural folks in Sabah have been struggling to live in the heartlands of that poor state. As you check your calendar for confirmation that this year is indeed a concluding 2012, you'll be horrified at their primitively poor conditions without even the most rudimentary basics of life.
For that matter....Sarawak, whose MB incidentally drives a rolls with his family in tow, each bedecked in more baubles than the finest fully-lit christmas tree, leaving you horrified at the juxtaposed extent how the rural folks there have meanwhile been neglected for umpteen years.
And some people visiting those states and walking around the towns can say it's all a perception that things are bad. If it's only a perception, why the need for a sudden rush after GE12 to hurry money into the states to build a quick cover up of the neglect? After all, it's not that those two states have just joined the federation.
All the deliberate neglect to do the right things immediately is because embedded deep inside Umno is a lock that prevents any member from trying to change the status quo by doing things deemed to rock the Umno gravy train.
Umno then becomes a pally syndicate and that in turn means arrogance, to wit "if you're not for us, you're against us".
But the rakyat ask back, "who should be the 'us' if not the rakyat?" And the general members ask back, "you mean we cannot dissent what you as temporary leaders are doing, furthermore increasingly apparent only for your personal families?"
To which both the Umno supremos can only try to self-justify that without them, the party will come to a standstill so they should come FIRST before members before rakyat.

ReplyDeleteInevitably, this will only lead to more personal ill-gotten gains. You have seen that for yourself. And once that starts as a precedent, it cannot be stopped because they reason if they can get away with it once, they can get away with it every time, especially when protected on the one hand by other friendlies emplaced in key positions in the government and on the other hand by paid spinners who can help beef superfluous public image even after all reputation has been self-rendered irreparable.
Having tasted forbidden fruit, they don't want to stop themselves because they know they can get away with it so long as they remain in power, and if they stop themselves, they reason that their hangers-on will get dissatisfied, switch loyalties and expose them.
They have all locked themselves into their own prisons of the mind, soul and heart.
They have all used public funds to create some carnivalish jomheboh meet-your-money-dishing-leader atmosphere. Any difference from rich gangsters living on sin while trying to build personal glory?
Now, will every Umno general member ask himself and herself how can Umno be qualified to lead this country for even one more second?
What more....bond our Malay minds for the rest of this 21st century?
I understand where Sak is coming from. He defends our Islamic faith in order to provide a dependable and abiding anchor for the other process of liberalization of the Malay mind that must take place so that the sudden freedom will still remain rooted in good human principles and not lead to an emptying of the true soul. There is much wisdom there.
And that should be how our Malays can progress. They must unshackle their minds from the depravities and hypocrisies of the Umno regime as painted above.
There should be no fear because most of our indigenous Malays after their bodies have rejected the Umno-BTN drug will discover that their hearts have always been in the right place to help them draw the line between what should be and what will be.
Life is like riding a bicycle. First, noting its function and benefit. Second, curiosity about the impending experience. Third, beefing up enough courage which in turn is proportional to help, support and encouragement from others who are already competent bicyclists. Fourth, the real action of getting onto the saddle and wobbling along the path of many inevitable falls to come. Fifth, the essential part of all lives - getting up, trying again, but doing it the next one time with a least-error motivation. Sixth, realizing that the key of all motion, and progress, is balance, not force. Seventh, imparting lessons learned to others so that they can start with less demotivating mistakes. And eighth, remembering that what one takes more than what one needs, others have to give more than what they should take.
In the end, a liberated mind will be free from fear, learns to accept and harmonize with the way of the world, and is ever ready to do good when the chance comes because every small good done is a chime He yearns to hear.

ReplyDeleteRecep T Erdogan started off well as a moderate, as is quite the norm for a new democrat tasting victory but already the signals coming out of Turkey clearly show more and more journalists are finding residence in the Turkish equivalent of our Bamboo River Resort near the Bosphorus, the air there reportedly much more salubrious. To his credit he has succeeded what everyone before him had failed to do after Ataturk — keeping the armed of forces in the barracks where they belong ready only for battle against outsiders not against its own citizens. Under Adnan Menderes, the first democratically elected Turkish Prime Minister (1950-1960), “the Turkish economy grew at an unprecedented rate of 9% per annum over his 10 year administration, a feat which had and so far has not yet been duplicated”. The tragedy in Turkey then was not that Menderes did too little for the State, he was seen to have done too much to frighten the secular military which soon staged a coup and then sent him to the gallows against all pleas for clemency from world leaders. Long after his death peasants still dreamt of seeing him descending from the sky on a winged white horse. Today, Menderes is one of only three people interred in the Heroes’ mausoleum in Turkey. The military forced Turkey to take almost 50 years to recover.
Perish the thought then, in our midst, someone or a group of people, initially morbidly anxious enough by the changed political realities, read — a sudden realisation that something is stirring among those in bondage may at last, nerves frayed by endless chicanery and outrageous nihilistic life styles may just trigger a political earthquake this time — , and now, alarmed enough to think that the only way to prevent defeat is recourse to the unthinkable, an exercise in ‘reverse engineering’ , i.e. bring in the military, if only for so long to create a new Emergency so that appropriate laws may be passed to erect a an iron-clad wall to prevent the slightest chance of a breach into that dark fortress where the darkest of the dark misdeeds are hidden.
The military must resist the notion that it is responsible for this bondage. It must disabuse itself of the flattering view that beyond the defence of the sovereignty of this nation it has a supplementary role to play, for example, to keep the one and not the other interested party the hold on legislative power. The only supplementary role it can play and has always played has been to assist the people in times of disasters, and this it has always acquitted itself with honour and elan. Beyond that, PDRM and other uniformed agencies will be in charge. Am I being unreasonably suspicious? May be, but I owe nobody any apology for feeling this way, not when the laws have been repeatedly twisted and abused by men and women who have taken the oath to conduct themselves with honour, dignity and integrity for the the larger good, Malaysia. And they haven't!
Dato, i think most of the Chinese and a good proportion of Indians have "cross over" the psychological barrier created by MCA & MIC that they represented the Chinese and Indians. Most of them now know these thieves represented ONLY the MCAPUTRAS AND MICPUTRAS ! The tough nut now is the Malays. Umno has done a fantastic psycho job on the Malays via the shit eduction systen, national medias and BTN. It is a bit like the Japanese being very loyal to their country, king and all their national products. You always see a Jap smoking Mild Seven and driving Japanese cars ! Well, at least what the Japanese govt has done is for the long term betterment of Japan as a nation, regardless which political party is the ruling govt.

I was at the ceramah @ the ulu kelang aduns office.
The non malays are overcoming the fear of "PAS" .
After reading about the ceramah on your blog, i atteneded it and i and my wife both indians and there was one other chinese couple at the event.
The crowd there were very happy to see us.
I then asked my friends why they never attended to which ,all non malays, responded by saying 'Aiyaaa , whats there to go and listen when we are already waiting to vote Pas,dap or pkr as long as its ABU.
No amount of reassurance from mic/bn that the indians are returning to bn is true but a very very wet dream.
At bn functions , they pay you to attend but at PR functions, you pay[donations] to attend.Thats the difference between sincerity and hipocrazy".
I hope you would contest for the wangsa maju seat and i assure you volunteers for free .Not the gangster types but semi retired/retired profesionals and young graduates. Furthermore my labour force can be lent to you during elections to do the hard labour stuff.
All the best from ulu kelang indians.

ReplyDeleteYes, too many people in Malaysia worry too much over too trivial matters. Even so, it tends to be a prevalent tendency when complacency takes over.
Every year, thousands of people risk their lives to flee to Australia. Too many than we can afford to process and accept. But Australia shall continue to do our best.
Many of these refugees are dirt poor. But once they gain a strong footing here, mate, they flourish and flourish. Never mind the menial jobs they have to accept. Never the fact that they are a minority. Never the fact that they have to start from the bottom of the ladder. Yes, within a few years, they would have build a strong foundation from which another proud Aussie migrant story shall emerge. And their children shall display work ethics second to none. It is no shame that Australia is a result of hardworking pendatangs. We are proud of them, unlike the bludgers.
In more ways than others, Australian laws are fair and undiscriminating. There lies the basic platform from which the society can grow and become stronger. Compare our norms to those of Malaysia, it is sad to note that divide and rule formula of BN that has kept Malaysia shackled for too many years. We all know the majority of the Malaysia diaspora who are now flourishing in their adopted countries. Pakatan offers the only hope that Malaysia can stop the bleeding and brain drain. Good luck to you and Pakatan in the coming election.

For example, in the next GE for one of the Pahang parliamentary seats e.g.
Temerloh (the Malays of Temerloh have a progressive political history in the colonial past).
Or, to contest for one of the Parliamentary seats currently held by underperforming MCA politicians
e.g. Raub.
Best regards,
Phua Kai Lit
..who will protect the Malays if UMNO is vanquished.
ReplyDeleteThis person must know if UMNO is vanquished at mid-night, the Malays in government service will still wake up the next morning and go to work as usual. They know they are all employed by the people of Malaysia, not UMNO. After all Malays are still in the majority in PR. The figures can't lie.
For the first time they will know they get paid for what they do and the Ministers and their friends too - no more no less. That's why the four States under Pakatan have received favourable reports from the Acnt-G. Haven't they prove that they are not only more capable than UMNO but more importantly have not spent time quietly digging into the cash-boxes.
Please free ourselves from mental and emotional bondage (Dato' thanks for connecting 'emotion' to excursions and allegiance). There is nothing to lose by being a bit more adventurous and imaginative with honest and capable men and women in Pakatan.
Throw the shackles and chains of bondage away and work for a new Malaysia — reinvigorated with a new sense of purpose. Ignore all these last minute promises and bombast from a coalition that has stolen so much over the last 25 years.

The Malays at large worrying about life without UMNO by now should start to worry about the invasion by migrants who conquer any possible means to make fortune in our country. Their hardworking and persuasive attitudes have earned them what they deserve, the wealth accumulation. What we suppose to reap are being reaped by them.
ReplyDeleteJust take a walk around at Pasar Borong Selayang and you'd find who's the boss, the Myanmar. Look around you and see how the Indons living such a comfortable life doing what we suppose to do. We shy from the jobs that they took and making fortune in the process. They now can afford many luxuries but we ended up envy them.
What protection, when we, the multi-racial people been living together for many decades harmoniously but the Malays are so worried about their rights taken by the tolerable Chinese and Indians, when the real threat is the migrants! And the migrants are given citizenship to gain votes, and you don't even see that as security threat?
Wake up people, no Chinese or Indian will take away what is rightfully yours...the migrants will, eventually and believe me, they're more determined than the Chinese or Indians.
Dear Dato',
ReplyDeleteRealistically, nobody competes on a level playing field. Race and colour play and important role in getting that important break in life. What is more remarkable was that it is now scientifically proven through the study conducted by some learned academics.
That is what disgusts me about the crapping non Malays have against "racism." I can tell you never before have I ever met a more racist society that perpetuates racism that in Malaysia and claims of course they are discriminated against.
In the same vein I have begun to see Malay graduates begin to fight and compete more aggressively. They do not start from a level playing field when seeking roles in the private sector and some of them are going for all the necessary skills and upgrading techniques just to overcome the racism in the private sector.
So does this warrant a situation for 'protection'?
Usually, the free market comes and provides a solution. For example, suppose a leader emerges that will be unafraid to beat down hard on the taukes who practice discrimination, then this leader will gain the support of the Malay majority.
I think Anwar Ibrahim will emerge as that leader. He has the Malay interest at heart but will have to tread adroitly. After all politics is a game of snakes and ladders, but its unclear which is which. Mahathir was the right leader for the time, but he lbegan to believe in his own greatness and thats what messed him up
'Crapping' non-Malays have against racism is racism as perpetuated by UMNO in the entire public sector, in the provision of educational opportunities, scholarships, business opportunities, house ownership, etc, etc. The list is endless and the statistics not flattering.
ReplyDeleteSo non-Malays naturally feel disgusted against 'crapping' racist Malays in equal measure, if not more so. Why? Simply because non-Malays have not missed one vital difference between the two forms of racism. For a meaningful debate on racism we must first of all concede that it exists in some form with varying levels of severity in all societies, even racially homogeneous one, though regionally separated, and that it is undesirable no matter what the circumstances are.
The difference is in one case, it is private and unofficial, the practitioner certainly no less contemptible and culpable. It is altogether possible that criteria for recruitment and promotion of staff ostensibly driven by talent, performance and dedication could just possibly be a smokescreen to hide innate racism, and this must be accepted as the way private enterprises operate in the real world. In short, it is impossible to legislate against racism, real or otherwise, in the private sector. Can UMNO deny that Petronas is not racist when non-Malays are excluded at every level? The same situation obtains in many other bumiputra-owned public listed companies.
Extend this argument to the official level and we see UMNO racism commanding legislative force, a force strong enough to encroach upon territory that clearly belongs to the other pivotal arm of fair and equitable governance, the judiciary.
It is not without reason that only last week, Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria urged the Prime Minister to keep the judiciary free. 55 years after Independence, such a call by the personage of the Chief Justice must reflect that all is not well in the State of Mammark.
That Chief Justice Tun Salleh Abbas and three other senior High Court judges could be dismissed with such frightening ease, how much less irksome it is to legislate in favour of one racial group and not the other, and in both instances, because of vested interests?
The successful paradigm is without a doubt the use of the talented and the capable regardles of race, creed, colour and religion. Both those inside and outside government know this is true. Play on the racial agenda and there is no hope we will ever reach developed nation status, not in ten years, not even twenty.
Racism sanctified by law is real in this country. We don't need an Oxford grad whose family didn't spend a dime to pontificate only on racism in the private sector.
Sumpitan Emas,
ReplyDeleteThe pirates have abandoned ship, with the pro-mamak crews still hanging on onto the stern longingly, perhaps waiting a miracle act from the water-walking savior to upman their financial muscles?
Meanwhile, the anti-mamak crews have sailed on to greener pasture, bcoz they r the brains that man the ship before.
So, why bother with an Oxford grad, who has the gift of gap & yet still heavily depends on Others to coach him on facts & reasons?
Didn't Bush Jr also an Ivy league product?
Perhaps, the real racists, as institutionalized in bolihland, have accumulated money & upstaged position, as champions of the discriminated majority by their own elite cartel, to look for easy & psychological scapegoats?
"We don't need an Oxford grad whose family didn't spend a dime to pontificate only on racism in the private sector." Read as:
ReplyDeleteWe don't need an Oxford grad whose family didn't spend a dime on his education from Primary to Tertiary to pontificate only on racism in the private sector.
I worked almost 20 years before I sat foot in a university lecture hall among much younger students because of race and skin colour. That much I agree with you Sir Wenger. There is, however, a world of difference between 'scientifically proven' and 'significant amount of information and data seem to point that the defining leap forward in life is decided largely by race and colour and not ability, blah...blah."
Right race, right colour, right place, right time -some luck, no sweat, big dreams, big money; wrong race, wrong colour, wrong place, wrongtime - no luck, small dreams, plenty sweat, no money.
The saving grace, I sleep well every night reading poetry from the best of the best from all cultures and civilisations.
Still, damn the bloody social scientists!
walla, 23 Nov11:58 : ………….Life is like riding a bicycle. First, noting its function and benefit. Second, curiosity……..”
ReplyDeleteWalla, indeed; if readers would bear with me what my current Resident Philosopher, Hans Kūng, resident in my mind that is, has to say about this tantalizing invention which you have also so appropriately compared to life’s journey through the various phases. I say tantalizing because I remember there was a competition among engineers, many years ago, to construct the most ‘unridable’ bicycle, and no one succeeded!
First, before Prof Kūng says anything let me put my own observations of the humble bicycle in more mechanical rather than philosophical terms. From childhood, I always thought after the modern flush toilet this was the greatest invention — one allowed me to finish my stationary job in relative comfort without pesky blue-bottles landing on the nose as had happened in the old bucket system, and the other gave unimaginable mobility. With a bicycle we wondered why the air never escaped, why the spokes and tyres could support relatively heavy loads, why gears worked the way they do (without knowing they were known as gears), and a hundred and one other questions. It gave us a quick start to school every day. It was everything that led us from school bench to working life. But, it is precisely the moment one discards it that one faces the immense hurdles ahead as you have put it, keeping the balance, navigating treacherous terrain, deciding when to slow down, when to spurt. But it is the final skill, the Eighth that’s the clincher – knowing where the limits and boundary lines lie – how much is enough, and how much is more than enough.
Prof Kūng asks “May politicians lie?”. He says: “There should be no doubt about it: in particular the requirement of truthfulness, which since the Enlightenment has been recognised as a basic condition for human society, applies not only to normal citizens but also and in particular politicians. Why? Because by nature they bear a special responsibility for the common good and therefor also have some privileges… there are so to speak degrees in the lack of truthfulness which need to be reflected on. (1) The lie is a bad thing……(2) Worse than the lied is untruthfulness……(3) Worst of all is mendacity, which can permeate the whole of a person’s life, so that he no longer even notices the way in which he is constantly coming up with untruths and half-truths….. There is another variant of mendacity, opportunism. It need not necessarily be the adaptation of politicians to authoritarian or totalitarian state that leads them to mendacity. An uncritical , irresponsible adaptation to a milieu, a trend, ….political and cultural tendency of the time…or even a particular constellation of power can be enough for a politician to lapse into untruthfulness, so that he no longer comes clean with himself. Thus opportunism and authoritarianism are related. The opportunism of the many in a party.. makes possible the authoritarianism of the few, and the authoritarianism of the few encourages the opportunism of the many. Authoritarianism and opportunism can even appear in the same person and admirably supplement each other, particularly in those who hold office. In that case one is authoritarian to inferiors and opportunistic to superiors. THIS IS WHAT IS USUALLY DESCRIBED AS THE OFFICIAL BICYCLING POSITION: BENDS ONE’S BACK AT THE TOP AND PUSH DOWN AT THE BOTTOM….” (my emphasis).
My bicycling days were over long long time ago. I now depend on an old banger, and there’s a black bitch down the road which seems to have a particular dislike for my black Iswara – chases after me for no reason. I don’t know what I did in my previous life to deserve this, but I know it would be pointless to complain to Proton.
Sumpitan emas,
ReplyDeleteKūng would have used our race politics as an example how human dignity can be artificially eroded by distorting the individual consciousness necessary for a global ethic.
In any case, we are only months away from a potentially final resolution of the matter.
Which is coming to a head. Just the other day, a party trenchantly asked, "if it ain't broke, why fix it?" This means don't change. Yet the following day, the same party trumpeted, "we are ready to change."
Can you believe that?!
The first day they were blind. Therefore, the second day they must have been bluff.
It cannot be that if reelected, blindness can suddenly turn to sight.
Because come March next year, they would already have had 60 months since the last general elections to redeem themselves. They haven't; add the last fifty years, they won't.
As for previous lives....

Walla, ai yoh, yoh!
ReplyDeleteWas from a family where one relative did ejeckly what one MCA chap did during curfew time — wrong place, wrong time, wrong woman. No wonder, I always get goose pimples when an MCA leader is within sight. Parting advice was — stay upright only at night, day time use knees to hold aspirin tablet, next life assured eternal bliss in Taman Firdaus,[Google Search: (firdaws) meaning "paradise", ultimately derived from Avestan pairidaeza meaning "garden, enclosure"].
No more bitches, black or white, brown or blue!
Meantime, still worth visiting Chisel Stone if only for the hawker food, with the family of course. For a bit more upmarket stuff, visit Permata Dewi's seaside restaurants. Just as well before happy days in the retirement home in Bamboo River Resort.
Let's us not screw up Malaysia anymore. Khairy, you are young and you have good years ahead - lead the way. I will be around to guide you for a while, prayerfully.
I discovered your blog site on google and check a few of your early posts. Continue to keep up the very good operate. I just additional up your RSS feed to my MSN News Reader. Seeking forward to reading more from you later on!…
