Carpe diem, Dato Seri Najib!

The new UMNO president and his new party cabinet will have to work hard at re-engineering UMNO. This is a golden opportunity for DS Najib to do what previous UMNO presidents failed to do.

The new president must ignore those who blamed the dance floor when their dance steps are at fault. Suddenly those who failed in their bids to secure office say, investigate this and that. This is nonsensical for it assumes, the moral benchmarks in UMNO reside in their persons. Therefore, if they lose, then it behoves us to accept that the moral fibre in UMNO has also vanquished along with them?

Therefore I read with bemusement the statement of Rais Yatim about investigating the new line up. He is not alone though in being disgusted seeing men of political straw (nothing of significance resides in them) being voted into position. People like Azeez Raheem for example and people who have never soiled their feet on the muddy grounds of politics. Investigate for example the academic credentials of Azeez which sounds fishy to me.

But as to the inference that Rais stands on a higher moral ground and therefore possess of unimpeachable political morals, that's another issue. He has no monopoly over moral scruples. Those who got into the system with nothing but greasing palms will be finished off later. Their own emptiness will be their own undoing.

DS Najib can mitigate our fears of ascribing over importance to the office bearers in the new line up by refusing to mandatorily appoint those who won, to public office. This is in line with what Tengku Razaleigh suggested in his proposals- make it known that those who hold MKT/political positions are not necessarily automatic candidates for high public office. That will certainly diffuse some enthusiasm from office seekers.

Then, if DS Najib has the courage to do this( he has been speaking of being brave to change lately) he can replicate what Tun Razak did during the Tun's time. Look for leadership talent beyond the confines of MKT.

He must carry out the surgery fast. In order to stamp out money politics, he must study how to implement the one member one vote system. This is election directly by the 3 over million members. Direct election makes it impossible for any one man, however deep his pockets are, to keep paying his way into position.

But please also consider the scrapping of the quota system. That makes direct election a mockery, if eligibility is based on one getting an artificial quota meant not to keep busybodies out, but to lock put potential rivals. The concept of democracy is to allow members freedom of widest possible choices.

  1. it will be interesting to see how u defend umno this next few days with kj as the corrupt umno youth in charge.

How can u defend and tell the voters out there and make umno more attractive as compared to PR?

That be an interesting read that must be!

Ur job doesn't stop when kj becomes youth chief.

Even now u r still defending him instead of defending umno against opportunistics opposition.

See how difficult life is now?

The voters (incl. Umno members) are disgusted when someone who is guilty but allowed to contest due to his FIL's influence and position.

Stop looking for scapegoat for this predicament of yours.

Look outward for a second and see, read, hear the wrath of common people against the folly of the delegates, the Lembaga Disiplin and pro KJ bloggers.

    This is the repercussion.

    Making mistake twice (2004 & 2009).

We shall see how difficult or how easy it is now to stem the tide of ridiculity of the voters against the corrupt umno youth.

Please lead the way in defending umno against PR.

After all, u see urself as partly responsible to put him there (based on the act of patting each other's back between this blog and waziboy the other day)

  2. your proposal(and of many others) of seeking those outside the elected mkt for the leadership role in govt needs consideration...

its wrong to deny the rights of the umno voters who hv in their own wisdom chosen the leadership to lead the party as well as by extension the country...and by denying a role for them in govt u hare curtailing the democratic process...

No..i want Azeez to be a full minister or at the very least a deputy. He won fair and square against the more powerful MBs and Ministers thus he must hv the right blend of leadership DNA and the charisma..

Or are u saying that the Umno guys who voted him in are dumb?

  3. anon at 15:46.
i will do so and i am thankful that i am not depending on yr brain to carry out that task.

    kuldeep,
are u saying that an MKT position is a guarantee that you get public office? the UMNO constitution does not say this.
YOU are the one saying the UMNO delegates are DUMB- not me. i am writing about the areas of possible change.

  4. no guarantee of cos...but traditionally the MKT is so revered as the best leaders...and by extension most of them gets a significant govt post..am i correct?

govt post includes senior non cabinet post of cos...

and umno members votes for their preferred candidates wishing to see them advancing their political careers by playing a significant part in the administration..

or is my logic flawed somewhere?

  5. there's the wisdom of the crowds...lots of ppl are called dumb as early investors in Enron but even more were labeled as brainless for putting money into apple, microsoft and amazon..

thus ,every single member of the MKT must have struck the right chords with the voters ; who collectively view them as able leaders who are able to translate the voter's aspirations into tangible results for them as umno members as well as malaysian citizens..

thus,my flawed logic that they shld hv a role in the govt..

  6. Umno has been plagued by cancer for the past 20 years. Unless major surgery is used to cut off the malignant tumors it would not survive in the next GE.

The speeches made at the Umno general assembly on the last day have already showed that the metastasis has spread. If noting is done to stop this rot, it would spell the death of Umno.

  7. Congratulations Dato', you are right on KJ being the winner. I guess you know more than us on what was going on.

And KJ had also denied any wrongdoing. If I am him, knowing that I had done nothing wrong, I would certainly welcome any effort to investigate me. It is my best chance to clear myself up once and for all, right? And no one will shout "rasuah" anymore and the oppositions would not make an issue out of it. Isn't that what you want too? No?

And I think you should really support such an initiative. Why not? Atleast you don't have to defend him so hard. Imagine this; after an investigation KJ is found "clean." Atleast you can tell everyone, "see, I told you." Berani kerana benar kan Dato'? Takut kerana salah.

Dato Sak, Please belive me that Najib is the best choice to be the PM if we are that eager to see the demise of UMNO.
Since the delegates have chosen him then there is no other ways to solve this country from facing calamity.
Najib can promise heaven but everyone knows he would not succeed.
He is just a misfit to Malay struggles.

Sudah lah tu…nak kutuk Tun M, nak kutuk KJ, nak kutuk Paklah……tak habis-habis lagi ker…..buat kerja la ooi…..nak berpolitik sampai bila?

Kesalahan lama tu cuba perbaiki, kalau buat silap jangan ulang lagi kesilapan lama. Penting kan bangsa, ugama dan Negara.

The real battle has just begun, your enemy is out there.

Not only voting rights should be given to more members at grassroots level, but should also consider adopting the 2 last men standing for final vote. No more 3 or 5 corners fight. That way it would be easier to regroup those factions ala two parties system. UMNO should show the way

  14. Tah pa pe tah.

Camana le najib nak lakukan perubahan dlm umno kalau menantu PM
jadi pemimpin tertinggi (naib presiden-ketua pemuda umno).

Kata umno nak lwn nepotism. Bertambah busuk la m'sia ni.
Sbb nepotism sejak tahun 5 thn dulu tak dibanteras.

Ada ke bapak mertua jd pm, menantu jd org nombor 2 pemuda.
Pastuh, diangkat jd orng no 1 pemuda sbb mertua dia PM.

Teruk btol umno. Mcm takde org lain. Mcm sejak 5 thn dulu, takde org lain ke nak pilih?

Nama je oxford, tp m'sia merudum plak. Pastuh dgr ckp singapore plak tuh.

  16. No need to write or ask for changes in umno since you yourself protects and condone corruption by khaiery.

DB found him guilty but you brushed away that fact and adjudged him worthy for umno's cause.

    Wakakaka. Funnylah!

When the clean was trashed but the one who found guilty was put on a pedestal, something is wrong somewhere.

He is a suspect even before becoming a leader but still you went over the top and bent over backwards to thrash his other rivals.

    Wakakaka.
