Tok Gajah Cyber Quartet?
The Pahang government wants to appoint pensioners to master its blogs? Shall we call them the Tok Gajah Cyber Dozen? Well, that’s what the Chairman of the state ICT and Information Committee chairman said. Dato Sharkar Shamsuddin is the chairman.
The person who should spearhead this blog should be Dato Sharkar himself. Since he is an EXCO, and is privy to all government decisions, he is the best person to operate its blog. Its even better, if all the EXCOs have one person blogging in their offices to counter all the wild allegations against the Pahang government. Have a special assistant who can blog about issues and your activities. But then, if you have encountered many of these p.a.’s who have to write one letter three times, then maybe Sharkar’s apprehension about using the current assistants to blog, hmmm..seems justified.
On the other hand, appointing retirees who are already set in their ways can be self defeating. Why doesn’t the Pahang government hire the legions of ICT graduates whose minds are possibly more nimble and responsive? The EXCOs tell them what to write- they will do the required research and perhaps create real appealing blogsites.
By the way, I have not seen any blog operated by Dato Sharkar. There are probably two serving ADUNs operating blogs. The rest don’t know what’s going on in blogsphere. The MB’s polsec has been a blogger sometime back, with biting and critical takes on many issues. Sadly, his pioneering endeavours were not emulated by many ADUN’s who probably never realise, sometimes it is they who are being criticised.
Or Perhaps, the Pahang MB will be better off asking DSN to coordinate the Pahang cyber troopers. You want to combat lies and misinformation? You need a cyber fighter like the polsec who is always in a take no prisoners mode. It’s a real jungle out there, Dato Sharkar!

ReplyDeletefrom what i've seen, blogs by pensioners, including those from the boomer generation, are almost always better written whether in malay or english (and i suspect in mandarin and tamil too).
they appear to have better grasp of issues, are more evenhanded and usually their analysis and observations have more depth.
p.s. i just posted a real preachy comment at datin sak's blog about people posting insulting comments. but now i'm in serious danger of having to lick my own puke because i'm... God forgive me!... laughing myself demented over Anon 10:12's "nak kencing pun tersekat sekat" ROFL! [mati aku!]

Personally I agree with Jed. Pahang have all the "terror" bloggers already and getting the pensioners to be bloggers is a bit absurd as we have unemployed graduates mastering in IT etc to do the job!

Pada pendapat saya cadangan Dato' Sharkar sgt tidak kena. Buat apa membazir wang kerajaan utk benda yg sebegini?
Sepatutnya pemimpin UMNO yang berada dlm kerajaan perlu ada blog peribadi masing2 utk memudahkan berkomunikasi dgn rakyat dan pengundi. Ramai juga juru blog dari Pahang yg mana terdiri dari ahli politik. Cthnya, Dato' Sam (s/u MB), Dato' Sak sendiri even bkn lg ADUN, dan MB. Tapi %nya kecil.
Kan bagus sekiranya YB UMNO dapat meluangkan sedikit masa dengan berblog dan secara tidak langsung dapat berinteraksi dgn pengundi.
Dalam hal ini pemimpin UMNO perlu meniru gaya atau cara pemimpin DAP spt Lim Kit Siang, Tan Seng Giaw, Teresa Kok, dan lain-lainnya. Mereka dapat meluangkan masa dgn begitu berjaya dlm hal menulis blog.
24 jam diberika Tuhan sama sahaja, tiada berkurang tiada berlebih. Tapi terpulang kpd pemimpin utk bahagikan masa. Jangan jadi mcm senario "Dekat2 nak mengundi dah ni", baru "Rajin turun Padang".
Bak kata orang Lipis: Don't afraid to be a cyber trooper YB!!

I agree with Anonymous 10:15 on giving these bloggers a chance first. And also with Mekyam about the pensioners' generally higher standard of English.
ReplyDeleteI'm also wondering - does it necessarily mean starting their own blogs? Or, becoming readers/commentators (especially at the popular blogs).
The second might be even better when it comes to "bang per buck". No matter how good your writings are, there's not much point if the Hits counter is at 15 per day.
Might as well try to take some advantage here... kena ada sifat "opportunist" sikit:-)
These bloggers need "blogs", right? Well, to Dato' Sharkar - Blogspot and Wordpress offer FREE ones, of course. But here's a problem - How do you get the READERS?
Takpa takpa - ada SOLUTION... How would you like to buy ... a PageRank 3 blog?... Jualan Murah. Berapa ribu do you think it's fair?
And I'm only half-joking here (too busy with new work right now - want to maintain only the more important "Recovery" blog).
BTW if you want to start from scratch, go ahead lah... Then see how fast you can get to PR3 - if at all. Sometimes it's better to buy than to "kedekut".

ReplyDeletewho's paying these troopers? It would be unfair if it was coming out of the tax payers' pockets. Using proxies to express another's point of view or opinion is not appealing actually. They might end up with very low hits.
It would be a totally different ball game if the politicians themselves engage the people in discussions and arguments on the net. People get more involved when they are engaged with the answerable parties directly, especially politicians.
As much as i don't want to be judging the book by it's cover, they don't look that convincing to me. Let's wait and see then?
