A sensational Detention.

the sensational arrest.

P Vwaishhnnavi, the six-year-old niece of detained Hindraf leader P Uthayakumar, and her mother K Shanti were released today after spending a night at the Putrajaya police district headquarters.

Many people are up in arms when they heard the police have detained a 6 year old child. This child was with a group of people who went up to Putrajaya. They wanted to meet up with the PM and give him a letter to secure the release of the leader of Hindraf.

Detaining a 6 year old is a travesty of fair play and common sense. Wouldn’t want to say is a travesty of justice which overplays the arrest.

Suppose the police were to detain all the adults then, who looks after the 6 year old? Should she be left on her own, wandering around in Putrajaya? Wouldn’t it be more sensible when hauling in the adults, the child be brought along too? Sakmongkol is not trying to trivialise the detention OK- but is equally intolerant of theatrics and dramatisation.

We have heard only one side of the story. Sakmongkol wants to ask this question- why bring a 6 year old to do the job of adults? Were there any intentions to use the child to invoke general anguish? Then the guardians of the 6 year old are equally guilty of travesty against fair play and common sense.

You don’t bring a child into a fairground and then let him/her wander on their own frolics. At all material time, common sense demands the guardians to place priority of the child’s welfare and safety.

Yes, the police and the authorities concerned will have to answer for the detention of the child. They must be allowed to explain their actions. Those of you who are agitating and shouting your voice hoarse for justice must now also offer justice for the police to explain their actions. Or have you already made your judgment and sentencing?

For at the same time, the guardians must also be taken to task for exploiting the child for their own agenda.

  1. "A SIX YEAR OLD DETAINED BY POLICE".
Sound uncivilized though the title is ambigiously misleading once knowing the fact.
Somehow this is what PAKATAN does best, to mislead the public with sensational headlines.
After 16 September, they could not come with new ideals, so they desperately make anything and everything become sensational.

  2. In the present climate where being vocal (the louder the better) against the authorities has become chic and fashionable, a valid and balanced viewpoint such as yours seems quaint and outmoded.

But sir, I am with you on this. Bringing a 6-year old on an 'adventure' such as this is as questionable as the police's action of taking the child into custody.

There's only one thing worse than hiding behind a woman's skirt; and that's hiding behind a 6-year old girl's skirt. A clever ruse it might have been, but this doesn't make it any less reprehensible.

  3. Is giving a letter of appeal a demonstration? Try explaining to all the children of the ISA detainees your logic. You can say they were wrong in bringing a child, isn't wrong to rob a child of her father just because he doesn't put to your (read the powers that be)nonsense....nevere critise a man until you have a mile in his mocassins

  4. I agree that the child should not be exploited to gain sympathy points. What were the parents thinking?

On the police side, I would have thought that the right procedure would be to send the child home to their guardians but the mom prob insisted on being with her.

In that case, the mom perhaps should have considered the safety of her child.

  5. anonymous @00.14.
the word demonstration is yours. not mine. this article clearly says to give a letter.
to say what the powers that be are doing is nonsense is yr choice which is a moot point arguable until the cows come home. you need 10-12 people to carry a piece of letter?
but try telling also to the daughters/sons/nieces and nephews of police personnel who place themselves in clear and present danger day in and day out putting up with demonstrations.
i hv said the police must explain their actions and be held accountable. the same degree of accountability must also be made to bear upon the mother of the child and that accountability is not lessened just bcos you bring along yr child.
as to the ISA detainees, i too advocate an open trial so that we the public can also assess them.

  6. I'm trying to understand those last sentences of Anonymous 00:14... Tapi biarlah, buat sakit kepala aja.

Anyway, was the child "arrested" or "detained", as what some in the media are saying? (Just ignore the blogs). Or was she "taken along" with those who were arrested/detained? There is a lot of difference here.

  10. I too do not condone to the tactics of using a child to gain sympathy. I have not been agreement of this since the first time they started to bring the six year old girl to the forefront of their struggle. I feel it is an irresponsible act by the mother and who ever who supported it. It was stupid of the mother to keep the child overnight in the police station. And she had the cheek to say that she was not detained, but stayed back to show her support and that she decided to keep her daughter with her. She is six years old for goodness sake. There is no justification what so ever to this silly act.
cheers and happy Deepavali to all.

  13. The Israeli soldiers have this evil streak intrinsic to their mental makeup in using human shields (Palestinian children) when out on killing sprees while routinely storming villages and refugees camps.

These honorable people here ... also uses human shield tactics whilst conveniently loading the blame on to the police or the authorities or anybody except themselves for whatever happens to them, to the shield, or to any consequent of their illegal doings.
