During the Cultural Revolution of the 1960s, China's de facto national anthem was , The East is Red. UMNO in its desperate hours came up with a de facto national anthem too entitled Janji ditepati courtesy of Madame Rais.
What they ignore is, with the ascendency of PAS, we can also declare, The East is Green.
Now, let us continue inspecting what goes on in the east coast states of Peninsula. In 2008 as we have said, more Malays moved away from UMNO. In Kelantan for example, despite the zillions of money poured into the state through the small number of ministers UMNO Kelantan has in the cabinet, and through the many division heads, PAS got an overall 5% vote increase.

In Kelantan for example, despite the zillions of money poured into the state through the small number of ministers UMNO Kelantan has in the cabinet, and through the many division heads, PAS got an overall 5% vote increase.
That means
rather than weakening as the mainstream media suggests, PAS is getting stronger
with new adherents and supporters. Yet we
see and hear nothing from the mainstream media other than the breakdown of all
forms of governance in Kelantan. Illegal logging here and there, lack of
development resulting in impoverished areas, Kelantan’s infamous water problem
etc. nothing appears to work in Kelantan.
On the
other hand, any apolitical person who goes to Kelantan will be struck by the vibrancy
and dynamism of Kelantan and its people. Of course you will see economically
depressed areas simply because the government doesn’t have enough money. Since the
discovery of oil, UMNO has held back RM 7.4 billion in oil royalty to the
state. Despite that, on an overall basis, Kelantan has managed to keep her head
high and proud. In contrast to the squandering ways of UMNO led government
elsewhere, the thriftiness and prudence of the Kelantan government has created
a robust and entrepreneurial society.
There is
something special about the Kelantanese. Almost all the time it was under the
governance of PAS which has been the opposition to UMNO. Two things developed as
a result of this; (1) a different governance culture and (2) an entrepreneurial
culture of the people.
Years of
being marginalized has resulted in the creation of a disciplined government and
a disciplined group of leadership. Umno likes to point out that PAS will
breakdown if Nik Aziz were to exit from politics due to any number of reasons.
This is where UMNO miscalculates grossly because it thinks other people are
like them.
That is the
reason, why UMNO people and supporters say, that if anyone were to replace UMNO,
things will be the same. Wrong- things will never be the same. No one can do
anymore worse than what UMNO has done. Rampant corruption and abuse of power
will be eliminated. Economic cronyism will be on the way out. The people will
be taken off their dependency and submission to a manipulative government.
Even if PAS
were to be without Nik Aziz eventually, the governance culture will remain different
from UMNO because PAS is schooled in Islamic culture. Islamic principles will
still govern the conduct of leaders after Nik Aziz.
The majority
of people in Kelantan are Malay. If one state like Kelantan and its people are
able to become UMNO-independent, the rest of Malaysia could follow. The Malays
in other states need not fear if they are cut off from UMNO. Just as Kelantanese
Malays have shown their dexterity, determination and courage because of small government,
ALL other Malays have a living proof that things do not become worse if they
are off UMNO’s back.
That is the
reason despite the continuous stream of propaganda coming out from every nook
and corner of the media industry which UMNO manipulates ( utusan Malaysia,
Media Prima, TV3, TV9, Berita Harian, Harian Metro, Hot FM, Fly FM and even
local radio stations), the people of Kelantan has remained resolute in its
support for PAS and has rejected UMNO’s culture of corruption, cronyism, abuse
of power and outright hostage of
Kelantan people. The people of Kelantan are providing the rest of the people in
Malaysia with one important lesson- it’s possible to be off UMNO. Nothing is
more important than that.
What UMNO
has done, by attempting to sabotage Kelantan under PAS at every chance it gets,
by isolating the state, UMNO has created the perfect laboratory for Kelantan to
test ideas. The most important being, without UMNO life can be better. This is
what UMNO fears most.
The most important
factor that will ensure Kelantanese will survive under any environment, is the
entrepreneurial culture and the most important consequence of years of PAS
rule, renders UMNO as irrelevant. At the same time, if PAS were to adopt a similar
governance culture like UMNO, it will also fail. While Kelantanese revere Nik
Aziz, PAS isn’t going to disintegrate without him.

This coming
GE13, it will be 13 for PR and 1 for BN.
UMNO swears that the party aim is to uplift the lot for the Malays.
ReplyDeleteBut then, it is UMNO that with held oil royalty for Terengganu under PAS and now Kelantan.
UMNO wants to impoverish the Malays there to teach them a lesson - not to vote for PAS.
Should Malays support this UMNO?
UMNO fights for self-reservaation of its leaders and itself NOT Malay population.
UMNO has alot of bad mouthing to the people and this is where the thing strikes back when they say East malaysia is their fix deposit.
ReplyDeleteWe must understand in the rules of law, there is nothing that goes up that will not come down.
I hope the people that pray and chant, pray and chant for them as well, give out the compassion and that's where the compassion will work.
Dear Dato Sak
ReplyDeleteA good role model for progressive Islamist political parties would be the AK (Justice and Development) Party of the Republic of Turkey under its highly competent leader Erdogan.
A PAS that behaves and governs like the AK Party would get a lot of support from non-Muslim Malaysians (including myself)

Dato,Umno has been boasting for a long time that it will take Kelantan away from PAS.Only the morons leading Umno has such wet dreams. How can Kelantanese let Umno take over Kelantan when it has been screwing and depriving the Kelantan people from the oil royalties.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't the Umno leaders wake up for once, and let the Kelantanese screw their backsides. Then maybe they will realised what it is to be like on the receiving end.Umno leaders should realised by now that their time is up.They would be having their heads hidden inside a lembu's ass not to know.
Yes, susah di mata orang, sempurna disisi Allah SWT. Okay tu.
ReplyDeleteApakah yang lebih susah daripada apa yang patut di jawab di akhirat nanti.
Mudahan yang belum terbuka hati, di limpahkan hidayah ALLAH SWT jua.
-Northern Mountain-
I have never like the taste of champange. But I will popped the cork off the first bottle in ten years, the second Umno is declared the loser. That is the first thing I will do to welcome in the new prosperous future and wellbeing for all Malaysians.
ReplyDeleteJust for thoughts only. What if Badawi and Tengku Razaleigh do not want to defend their seats.
ReplyDeleteBadawi will most definitely not want to defend his seat.He is real sick of Umno politics already.
What if Tengku Razaleigh have the same thoughts and follow Badawi's footsteps.
The end results.Umno Kedah and Kelantan will fall flat on their faces and self implode.
Kelantan is the model for overall tenacity against all odds. You are correct in your analysis of the state of affairs and mindset of the Kelantanese. Despite the extreme prejudice shown by the UMNO elite in suppressing the state to submission, the Kelantanese has persevered. This clearly shows 2 things.
ReplyDelete1. UMNO and the bunch of geriatrics has not other creative ideas and policies to regain back the state apart from old tried and used methods akin to caveman policies. Its interesting that no matter who becomes PM, they will always put a 'new face of UMNO' in Kelantan to try to impress upon its electorates of its sincerity to win back the state. But actually, its just like cold storage for the UMNO veteran who is transferred to the state. UMNO is not sincere in winning back the state at all. It has become a loophole for cronies to siphon govt money out of the system in the guise of winning back the state. Perhaps you should investigate how much federal funds has been missing since TDM'S time till now. This should be good election fodder for the Kelantanese folks.
2. Even the young Kelantanese migrant workers in Selangor, Penang, JB, etc, will always go back to Kelantan and vote back PAS. These are the people who has been exposed to strong religious upbringing before working out of state. These are the people who are witnessing firsthand, the hypocrisy and corruption of UMNO. And these out of state Kelantanese dont want the same mess to be brought back home, where a home is a home and should remain peaceful.
UMNO seems to think that it can solve everything with money, with enough money thrown at the problem. So it withholds Kelantan's oil royalties and spent it all. Kelantan can forget about ever getting back their royalties. UNLESS opposition takes over the federal govt, which will be soon enough. Even with a fraction of the sum owed, Kelantan's economy and socio environment will skyrocket for the next 5 years, at least.
Entrepreneurism is the result of poverty and is the mother of all necessity. Again, you have just demonstrated that 30 years of oppression and repression by UMNO has made the Kelantanese resilient and self sufficient in its daily needs and a little more. This compares to the same period where TDM cultivated a culture of greed-is-good amongst all other malays in UMNO. BTW, I have never come across a fat/obese person in Kelantan as compared to the many you can see in any given time in KL. The glaring results of the differing governance style can be seen by all. Despite all the rant and complaining in the mainstrem media on depressed socio-economic condictions in Kelantan, why doesnt he rest of the malays see that out of state Kelantanese will still go home to vote back PAS. I guess that is one of the reason why the govt wants to suppress politics in public universities, just so that these rural Kelantanese, Trengannu, Pahang, Perlis, Kedah students dont rebel against the UMNO establishment that gave them debt-loaded higher education and bring it back home for their parents and relatives to absorb and understand.
UMNO should have known by now that providing lower standards of higher education for all the malays to be part off is a bitch. Education not only opens their eyes but empowers them to be bold and question the establishment. That is why our education fund will always be in deficit. These educated people see it as their sole right to get 'free' education from UMNO, at the expense of other tax paying citizens. And this is just one of the UMNO skewed tools that backfires badly.
And now, Najib decides to bribes FELDA settlers with more money, even after they all had free money from the FGV listing. If this episode doesnt piss of the rest of Malaysia or other poor, impoverish citizens, I will be surprise. The other Ah Bengs and Muthu's hard earned money is again going to already highly rewarded FELDA settlers for nothing but for them to vote back UMNO. This is purely gross injustice. Malaysians are ashamed to have such a shallow PM.
Many Kelantanese left the state in search of opportunity and in turn help to develop other states.
ReplyDeleteHundreds of thousands, if not millions, left the country to other countries where their skills, capability and hard work are valued, appreciated and rewarded.
Though I am not a Malay and do not profess Islam, but Kelantan MB Tok Guru Nik Aziz has my highest respect amongst all the politicians in the country.
ReplyDeleteBesides my parent's hands, I guess TGNA's hand is the only other hand that I will kiss if I ever meet him, yes not even the Agong's hand.
As Kelantan MB for 22 years , the man still leads a simple life and live in a modest house ; this is an honest , honorable and man of the highest integrity which Malaysia sorely needs.
Dear Sakmongkol
ReplyDelete“Two things developed as a result of this; (1) a different governance culture and (2) an entrepreneurial culture of the people.”
Can this Kelantan experience be replicated in the rest of the country after 55 years of UMNO misrule, and after UMNO has drummed into the Malays that “Ketuanan Melayu” comes with “free” entitlements?
That will be a humongous challenge to a PR federal government. Look at this proposal by Rafizi of PKR to abolish excise and import duties. Immediately, howls of protest arise from the UMNO elites and cronies who benefit from APs, and others who make a living out of the Proton dinosaur.
But when we listen carefully we hear that millions of Malaysians are enthusiastic about this Rafizi idea. It has economic logic – millions would benefit at the expenses of several thousands of self-interested individuals. Proton is not about Malay pride, and much less about national pride. It is simply a business. 25 years are surely sufficient to determine if this idea has merit or not. It is time to send this holy cow to the slaughterhouse.
So I am confident that a PR government is ready to try a few bold ideas that will benefit all the people. They will definitely change the governance culture, as they have done in Selangor and Penang, and I am also confident that with more open competition the entrepreneurial culture of all Malaysians, including the Malays, will strengthen and thrive
Dato Sak, I am waiting your analysis on Perak - how many seats won by PR and BN (P and DUN)?
ReplyDeleteanon 16:16
ReplyDeleteperak analysis coming soon. i am doing state by state only at parliamentary level
Aiseh! Give another seat to Kelantan BN lah! Otherwise Ku Li will be embarrassed, having urged one and all to send BN in again. How could they trust him ever again?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, UMNO has a striking belief. Swim or sink together!
It looks like they prefer to 'selam' together in submarines!
But more importantly, this may be politics - dark and dirty but if we celebrate freedom values which are not inconsistent in Islam (as opposed to Fatwas and Fat Wars) ...we're good on game changing track. Let's hope the message extensively filter down.
Our past is not just about bones big or small, its the human culture in consonance and response to mother nature. And to believers, God lurks in every corner!
As a Kelantanese I just can't help feeling that UMNO warlords just don't feel embarrassed at all by their excesses. The one who had everything long long before this new bunch of thieves appear was Tg. Razaleigh and he never saw the need to flaunt his wealth.
ReplyDeleteKelantan will still go to PAS for the simple reason that these are good honest men and women determined to do their best in the face of immoral oppression by a corrupt central government.
Anak Kelate
Hahaha someone here really knows how to celebrate in style when BN loses big time. Your wahyu steak is on the house, really will be couriered to you first class, really.
ReplyDeleteAnon 30 July 2012 13:45
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agreed with your comment about Tok Guru Aziz as the most sincere Muslim leader.
Yup,just compare the Kelantan MB and a certain Toyol MB who owns a Bali palace and the other " no spik d Ingrish " MB who carried a couple of millions cash in his briefcase while in Australia, you will know the difference.
